→ 무거운 머리를 털어 버리려는 듯 기지개를 켜다: stretch oneself as if he were going to shake his headache off
→ 일요일 아침의 느슨한 기분으로: in a leisurely way fit for a Sunday morning
He had pulled open the curtain halfway when undescribable bewilderment overtook him, making the movement of his hand come to a halt.
→ 커튼을 걷다: pull open the curtain

즉 what came into view
→ 낯익은 북악: the familiar view of Mt. Puk-ak
→ 쇠창살이 쭈뼛쭈뼛 솟아 오른 새 담장: a wall, new and strange, with many iron stakes atop it
(ANS) He stretched himself up as if he were going to shake his headache off, got up and went to the window. It always gave him a secret delight to enjoy the view through the window in a leisurely way fit for a Sunday morning. He had pulled open the curtain halfway when undescribable bewilderment overtook him, making the movement of his hand come to a halt. What came into view was not the familiar view of Mt. Puk-ak but a wall, new and strange, with many stakes atop of it.

(ANS 1) Of course that is partly because we are physically grown up, but perhaps another bigger reason is that we now have a mature eye of adults.
(ANS 2) We can attribute these experiences to the fact that we are grown up in body and more specifically, that we've come to have mature inner eyes.

T : Well, maybe you should go home and see a doctor.
S : I think so.
T : I'll call your mother to pick you up.

As he bent down to pick it up, Jack saw a note inside.
He couldn't believe what he read.
Jack had found a note worth over six million dollars!
The note in the bottle was a will written by a very rich man.
It said that whoever found the bottle would get half of his fortune.
The bottle had been floating in the ocean for twelve years before Jack found it.

In the future doctors will diagnose illnesses differently, or we may not need doctors at all.
We may be able to decide for ourselves what the problem is.
We might look up symptoms on the Internet and order a testing kit to check our blood for diseases we have.
We may not even have to do this.
We may actually have microchips in our bodies examining our blood pressure, temperature, and heartbeat on a daily basis.

Some young children were talking about what they wanted to be when they grew up.
Jimmy said he wanted to be a *philanthropist.
When the other kids asked him to explain, he replied, “I heard they're the guys who have all the money.”
Jimmy was only partially right.
According to the dictionary, a philanthropist is “one who loves and seeks to benefit mankind.”
Simply having a lot of money, then, doesn't make one a philanthropist.
In fact, a poor person who “loves and seeks to benefit mankind” out of his limited resources
is more of a philanthropist than a person of great wealth who is a miser.

If all spiders suddenly disappeared, we'd starve to death.
As soon as the canned and frozen foods were used up, there would be no more food.
The millions and millions of insects that live on earth would eat all the crops.
With no spiders, the bugs cannot be stopped.
That's what spiders do for us, though we do not always appreciate it.
They eat bugs day and night.
They have eaten a total number of bugs weighing more than several billion people on earth today.
There are too many spiders to count.

A young lawyer began working in our office.
Her first trial was coming up, and she worked diligently on her case.
Several other experienced lawyers occasionally dropped in to see how she was doing and to offer help.
The day before her trial, she mentioned that she wasn't getting much sleep lately with the upcoming trial on her mind.
One of the experienced lawyers overheard and stopped to offer his support.
“Relax,” he said.
“Your case is well prepared, and you know your stuff.”
The beginning lawyer turned to him and replied with a smile,
“I'm not worried about my case - I'm worried about what to wear.”

All of the wild Giant Pandas in the world live in western China.
They are found in dense bamboo forests high up in the mountains.
The forests are so dense that it has always been hard for people to find out much about wild pandas.
The pandas stay hidden in the forest most of the time, where people can't even see them.
In many ways, the Giant Panda is still a mysterious animal.
Nobody is really sure what kind of animal they are.
Some scientists say that the Giant Panda is a member of the raccoon family.
But others claim that it belongs to the bear family.
And a third group is sure that it doesn't belong to either family.

Sociologists say that people prefer the food that they grew up with.
As a cultural group, we learn to like what is available to us.
This is why in Africa some people eat termites, in Asia some people eat dog meat, and in Europe some people eat blood sausages.
Sometimes we need to change our eating habits.
If we move or travel to a new place with a different culture, our favorite meat, fruit, and vegetables may not be available to us.
As a result, we have to eat food that is different from the food we are used to.
Slowly, this strange food becomes familiar to us and our tastes change.

Michael Jordan wasn't born a star.
He had natural talent, but a part of his success was a result of his parents' support.
Michael's parents taught their children that all races are equal.
But at the age of seven, Michael was put to the test.
A white girl told him to give up his seat at the front of a bus.
When he refused, she called him a “nigger.”
In anger, he hit her, and was suspended from school.
He learned to overcome obstacles such as this with his mother's wisdom.
His mother repeated what she often said, “Outside this door, all sorts of things will happen.
Don't let it affect you.
If people call you nigger, that's their ignorance.”
