Everybody would like to make a trip to some distant stars in the space as well as into the future and past.
But we know that we could not make such a trip by means of an ordinary vehicle.
It would take thousands of years to reach the nearest star ever at the speed of millions of immensity of the space by all means.
That is to say, we must dash through the space by means of some mysterious method of transportation.
But, to achieve this exploit we should know much more than we do now about space and time.
Do we really know what space is? Probably the answer is "No". It is fortunate, however, that we can now control the space.

→ 읽고 싶은 것을 읽을 수 있는 자유뿐만 아니라 출판의 자유도…: freedom to press as well as to read what you wish~
→ 언론의 자유는 freedom of speech이지만 출판의 자유는 freedom of the press이다.
→ 공동의 이익이 되다: help the common good[be of benefit to everyone]
→ 원하는 직업에 종사하다: work at any job you like
→ 정부에게 재고를 요청하다: ask the government to think it over again~[to reconsider it]
→ 공정한 재판을 받을 권리: the right to be given a fair trial
ANS) You have freedom to press as well as to read what you wish. It is freedom of the press that gives you freedom to criticize the government when you feel it will help the common good. You have freedom to own property, to go into business, to work at any job you like. You have the right to ask the government to think it over again if you feel you have treated unjustly. You have the right to be given a fair trial by a court of law if you are accused of a crime. No one can say you are guilty unless you have been proved guilty.

[比較] what ever, whatever
What ever can it mean?(대체 무슨 말이냐?), What ever shall we do?(대체 어떻게 해야 할까?)
(b) 관계사: whatever는 복합관계사 what의 강조형으로, all that, any(thing) that(~인 것은 모두, ~인 것은 무엇이나)를 의미한다.
Eat whatever you like./ Whatever is left over is yours.
Whatever request you make will be granted.(네가 요구하는 것은 무엇이든 들어주겠다.)
형용사로 쓰이는 경우 더 한층 강조하기 위해 any, no 따위로 수식된 명사 다음에 자리를 잡아, for any reason whatever(여하한 이유로든지)처럼 할 수 있다. for whatever reason보다 뜻이 강하다.
I have no plans whatever.
Whatever happens, we'll meet here tonight./ Whatever man told you that, it is not true.

What is important is that politicians as well as the general public join
hands in the rehabilitation works and relief programs. It is
exhilarating to see that civic organizations like the Red Cross Society,
religious groups and the mass media, are now taking the lead in a
nationwide relief campaign.

If you recognize your friend Jack feels depressed, what should you do?
First talk to him about it.
Try to discover what he is feeling.
If you can't persuade him to discuss the problem,
try an approach like "you remind me of the time when I was depressed."
This may keep him from feeling lonely.
Then, provide emotional support.
Please don't forget to listen sympathetically, point out the realities of the situations and always offer hope.

Our national park system is a true treasure that must be preserved.
Our country is covered with cities, highways, and factories.
The amount of green areas is shrinking all the time.
Private parkland is constantly being sold to developers.
Our national parks are among the few places with protection for nature.
They are oases where we can relax and live in harmony with the wilderness.
This untouched land allows us to understand what our country looked like hundreds of years ago, when it was pure and unspoiled.

Like most of William Shakespeare's plays, “Romeo and Juliet” is based on earlier sources,
which in this case go back to some stories popular in Italy in the late 1400s.
These stories were transformed into a poem in English by a poet named Brooke.
Today Brooke's poem has been forgotten, but Shakespeare's play lives on.
What makes Shakespeare's play live is its dramatic power and its remarkable language.
That language, beautiful as it is, may seem strange to modern readers,
especially to young readers encountering the play for the first time.
William Shakespeare

Well, as in most work situations, we have a problem here with communication.
That is, most managers do not want to hear people complain, and most employees are afraid to come right out and say what they feel.
They usually won't say what they like or don't like.
They may complain to each other during lunch or after work, but they do not complain directly to the manager.
It is important, however, for a manager to find out if he or she is doing a good job.
One way to do this is to give employees a chance to talk.
Employees need an opportunity to say what is wrong, what they don't like about the work situation, and what they would change to make their work better.

The laws of order are the rules that control changes in meaning when order changes.
“The cat caught the mouse” means something obviously different from “The mouse caught the cat.”
Order is used differently in different languages and cultures.
While order is of major importance on the sentence level in English, this is not the case in some languages.
Order also has great importance in other parts of cultural systems besides language: order of birth, order of arrival, order in line to get a ticket.
Order applies to the courses of a meal.
Consider what it would like to start dinner with dessert.

Question : What do you do to keep yourself physically fit?
Tom : When I was in college I used to play sports like baseball and basketball.
But I can't do that now, so I try to play golf every weekend.
I work mostly sitting at my desk in my office, so I like to get outside and get some fresh air.
Sue :When the weather is OK, I go jogging in the early morning almost every day.
It's fun and it makes me feel fresh all day.
In the winter I don't feel safe running in the dark, so I usually jump rope and lift weights before breakfast.
Liz :I have no weight problem, but I'm not as strong as I used to be.
I'm worried about my health, to tell the truth.
Last summer I quit smoking and next month I'm going to buy an exercise machine.
I'm looking forward to that.

What is popular today may be out of date tomorrow.
Cars of today are different from those of the nineties.
Our parents wore suits with wide trousers and dresses with padded shoulders; our trousers today are different.
Style changes so quickly that one never knows if a particular dress is stylish or unfashionable.
So if you like the clothes you're wearing, and the fashion changes―don’t worry about it!
You probably couldn't catch up anyway.

What would my life be like if my children didn't play sports? Well, it may be more relaxed on one hand.
However, like other parents, I can see the immense benefits sports provide our children!
Organized sports offer children of all ages the chance to exercise, to be part of a team, and to form relationships they may not otherwise have.
Working out not only helps to lessen depression, it also helps teenagers overcome the uneasiness they may feel at times as they develop and change.
And being on a sports team can be helpful and stabilizing at a time when so many things in their lives seem devastating.
And sharing in both its accomplishments and failures is a wonderful experience.

Dr. Ward, a famous paleontologist specializing in mass extinction, says:
“We have finally said out loud what we have thought for so long.
Life, at least complex life, is rare in the universe.”
His colleague Dr. Brownlee comments:
“People say the sun is a typical star, but that's not true.
Almost all other environments in the universe are terrible for life.
It's only in the Garden-of-Eden like Earth that it can exist.”

If you take a closer look at your life, you'll find that you have a life purpose you've been trying to carry out.
For some people, their purpose may be as simple as raising a family or being a good friend or emotionally encouraging others.
These purposes may sound simple or insignificant, but consider how they can be a pleasure to many other lives.
Your life purpose is eventually what benefits you and others as well.
I mean, if you do something that gives you a better life and makes you feel better, it's for the benefit of all.
Sometimes, what you are aiming at may seem like an unimportant detail, but it does good to the whole.

When Amelia, one of my dearest friends, was ninety-nine, I, not knowing if she would live to be one hundred,
decided to ask the “big” question that is usually reserved for people who reach the age of one hundred.
I asked, “To what do you attribute your longevity?”
The usual answers we hear to that question are, “I didn't drink,” “I minded my own business,” and the like.
I had no idea what this healthy little ninety-nine-year-old would say.
What she said was profound.
It caused me to sit up and take notice: I have learned how not to be afraid.
Wow! What a statement! I realized―yes, this woman is fearless!
She didn't hide away at home and kept on moving out into the world despite the risks.

You've passed the interview and landed the job.
Now it is your first week on the job.
Is this job right for you? Is the job what you expected?
Maybe you thought you loved working alone,
but now you're stuck in a tiny office with minimal human contact,
realizing that you hate working in a secluded setting.
A job is like a marriage or having a spouse.
Sometimes you don't know it's right for you until you live with it.
So as the saying goes, “If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.”

My biology teacher, Mr. Joseph, has a jar.
Not just any jar, mind you, but a jar of immense importance.
In 1996, Mr. Joseph filled the jar with pond water.
He put the cap on, and hasn't opened it since.
In this pond water tiny organisms thrive.
That jar is much like the Earth, Mr. Joseph says.
The living things of the Earth are independent of the rest of the universe and they don't care what's going on around them.

If Madeline Powell had her way, she'd eat like vegetarian.
Many nights, dinner would be a simple salad or rib-sticking bowl of porridge.
But Madeline, 39, has her family to consider.
“My son is picky with vegetables,” she says regrettably.
“And my husband, Jim, is a meat-and-potatoes guy.”
Guess what's happened since they married 21 years ago?
Between them, Madeline and Jim have gained nearly 50 kilos.
Putting on weight after marriage is a common reality, many studies shows.
But relax.
It's possible to modify even deep-rooted patterns.
Here are strategies for handling some of life's difficult dining experiences.

Once while hearing a young lady highly praised for her beauty, I asked:
What kind of beauty do you mean?
Merely that of the body, or also that of the mind?
Many a pretty girl is like a flower which is admired for its beautiful appearance, but despised for its unpleasant odor.
It is far better to acquire beauty than to be born with it.

If you want to make good use of your time, you've got to know what's most important and then give it all you've got.
That's another lesson I learned at Lehigh.
I might have had five classes the next day, including an oral quiz where I didn't want to look stupid, so I had to prepare.
Anyone who wants to become a problem-solver in business has to learn fairly early how to establish priorities.
Of course, the time frame is a little different.
In college I had to figure out what I could accomplish in one evening.
In business the time frame is more like three months to three years.

Imagine what it would be like to wake up and find yourself in a metal box.
This is what happened to a man in South Africa who had been in a car accident.
The doctors thought he was dead, so he was put in the metal box.
He remained there, unconscious, for two days.
Then, he woke up and shouted for help.
The people who heard him were at first somewhat frightened.
But then they realized that he was alive and they let him out of the box.
He was happy to be alive and free.
However, his happiness did not last long.

His girlfriend refused to see him because she did not believe that he was really alive.

She said he was a ghost who came back from the dead to frighten her.

We all agree that the aim of education is to fit the child for life; however, there are as many opinions as to how that fitting is to be done as there are men to hold them.
For example, fully half of our teachers cannot see that imagination is the root of all civilization.
Like love, imagination may very fairly be said to 'make the world go round,' but, as it works out of sight, it is given very little credit for what it performs.

He is driven by the notion that if he puts something on one side of anything, he ought to put another thing just like it on the other side.

It is not external things like families, jobs, or money that create problems for us in our lives.
Rather what actually makes us unhappy is our tendency to desire that these things bring us happiness.

"We say that the universe is expanding."
"What makes it do that?"
"Most astronomers agree that the expanding universe can only have one explanation: Once upon a time, about 15 billion years ago, all substance in the universe was assembled in a relatively small area.
The substance was so dense that gravity made it terrifically hot.
Finally it got so hot and so tightly packed that it exploded.
We call this explosion the Big Bang."
"Just the thought of it makes me shudder."
"The Big Bang caused all the substance in the universe to be expelled in all directions, and as it gradually cooled, it formed stars and galaxies and moons and planets..."
"But I thought you said the universe was still expanding?"
"Yes I did, and it's expanding precisely because of this explosion billions of years ago.
The universe has no timeless geography.
The universe is a happening.
The universe is an explosion.
Galaxies continue to fly through the universe away from each other at colossal speeds."
"Will they go on doing that for ever?"
"That's one possibility.
But there is another.
You may recall that Alberto told Sophie about the two forces that cause the planets to remain in constant orbit round the sun?"
"Weren't they gravity and inertia?
"Right, and the same thing applies to the galaxies.
Because even though the universe continues to expand, the force of gravity is working the other way.
And one day, in a couple of billion years, gravity will perhaps cause the heavenly bodies to be packed together again as the force of the huge explosion begins to weaken.
Then we would get a reverse explosion, a so-called implosion.
But the distances are so great that it will happen like a movie that is run in slow motion.
You might compare it with what happens when you release the air from a balloon."
"Will all the galaxies be drawn together in a tight nucleus again?"
"Yes, you've got it.
But what will happen then?"
"There would be another Big Bang and the universe would start expanding again.
Because the same natural laws are in operation.
And so new stars and galaxies will form."

What will life be like without our friends?
Some have many friends, some have few, but it is difficult to find a person with no friends at all.
Much of our life, both in our younger days and when we are grown up, is spent with others, so that to have no friends is unthinkable.
Though we cannot all be friends, those who are not our friends are not always enemies.
We have a feeling of friendship towards some which we cannot have towards others.
That is nature and it cannot be changed.

DEAR ABBY: I'm 22, with two children, ages 3 and 4.
I'm divorced for the second time.
I have been dating a man who is 52 years old.
He is financially very well-off and wants to marry me.
He treats me very well and cares for my children.
Abby, do you think marriage between a 52-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman could ever work out?
I like him a lot, but I am not what you would call madly in love with him.
I was madly in love with my first two husbands, and they both treated me like dirt.
I haven't made any promises yet, and this man is not pressuring me, but I need your advice.
What do you think it takes to make a marriage work ?
TWO-TIME LOSER
DEAR T.T.L.: Don't marry anyone while you are still seeking advice.
All that is necessary for a marriage to succeed is for two people to really
need each other.

Why is life worth living? What do you like most about it or want most
from it? From what do you get your most through satisfactions? Are you

All of my studies indicate that a decided majority of the Americans are
dissatisfied with their jobs and wish they were doing something else.
What about you? Is your job work or fun?
If it is work, then you would probably be wise to take immediate steps
to get out of it. Your life is too short and too valuable to waste in work.
If you don't get out now, you may end up like the frog that is placed
in a pot of fresh water on the stove. As the temperature in the pot
gradually increased, the frog feels restless and uncomfortable, but
not uncomfortable enough to jump out. Without being aware that a change
is taking place, he is gradually lulled into unconsciousness―boiled.

Youth is inspiration. One of the tragedies of the arts is the spectacle of
the vast number of persons who have been misled by this passing fertility
to devote their lives to the effort of creation. Their invention deserts
them as they grow older, and they are faced with the long years before
them in which, unfitted by now for a more humdrum calling, they harass
their wearied brain to beat out material it is incapable of giving them.
They are lucky when, with what bitterness we know, they can make a living
in ways, like journalism or teaching, that are allied to the arts.

The weather is like the government, always in the wrong.
In summer time we say it is stifling; in winter that it is killing;
in spring and autumn we find fault with it for being neither one thing
nor the other, and wish it would make up its mind.
If it is fine, we say the country is being ruined for want of rain;
if it does rain, we pray for fine weather.
If December passes without snow, we indignantly demand to know what
has become of our good old-fashioned winters, and talk as if we had
been cheated out of something we had bought and paid for; and when
it does snow, our language is a disgrace to a Christian nation.
We shall never be content until each man makes his own weather,
and keeps it to himself.

Freedom of will in a world without freedom is like a fish in a world
without water. It cannot exist because it cannot use itself.
The greatest fallacy of political tyranny has always been that the
tyrant is free while his subjects are enslaved; but he is enslaved
by his own enslaving, tyrannized by his own tyranny.
He is not free to act as he wishes because what he wishes is determined,
and generally very narrowly, by the demands of maintaining tyranny.

Most of us like the conversational parts of a story better than the others.
This is partly mental laziness, but is also due to the fact that
conversation shows character more quickly than anything else.
Study a few conversational pages in any standard novel known to you, and
note how readily you can build up a mental picture of the speakers from
what they say and the way in which they say it.
Careful study of conversation of this kind is also helpful in forming
habits of pleasant, straightforward talk―a very rare accomplishment.

The writer tries to find out what it is like to be a human being.

It is very difficult for people to understand each other if they do not
share the same experience. For example, there is a folk tale that comes
from the foothills of the Himalayas. A man was trying to explain to a
blind friend what a white color is. "Well," he said,"it is like snow on
the hills." "Oh, the blind man said, "then it must be a wet sort of
color." "No, no," the man said, " it is also the same color as cotton or
wool." "Oh, yes, I understand. It must be a fluffy color." "No, it is
also like paper." "Then it must be a fragile color," said the blind man.

Most people realize only a small part of their potential. They do not
make the progress which they would like to make and are finally capable
of making. Then, why do so many people fail to reach their potential or
fully realize it? They do so, simply because they have not clearly
defined what they want to achieve. I believe that success is a journey,
not a destination, It is the process of progressively realizing your
personal goals. So, I advise that you first set your goals clearly.

>>> Long Long Time <<< by Linda Ronstadt
Love will abide, take things in stride, sounds like good advice
But there's no one at my side
And time washes clean, love's wounds unseen
That's what someone told me
But I don't know what it means
'Cause I've done everything I know to try and make you mine
And I think I'm gonna love you
For a long long time
Caught in my fears blinking back the tears
I can't say you hurt me when you never let me near
And I never drew one response from you
All the while you fell all over the girls you never knew
'Cause I've done everything I know to try and make you mine
And I think it's gonna hurt me
For a long long time
Wait for the day you'll go away
Knowing that you warned me of the price I have to pay
And life is full of flaws
Who knows the cause?
Living in the memory of love that never was
'Cause I've done everything I know to try and change your mind
And I think I'm gonna miss you
For a long long time
'Cause I've done everything I know to try and make you mine
And I think I'm gonna love you
For a long long time

Jonnet Jackson - That's The Way Love Goes
------------------------------------------------------------
Like moth to a flame burnt by the fire
My love is blind.
Can't you see my desire?
That's the way love goes.
Come with me,don't worry.
I'm gonna make it crazy.
I'll give you the time of your life.
I'm gonna take it places you've never been do for.
You'll be so happy that you came.
I like to watch us play.
And baby,I've got on what you like
Come

Please forgive me

It still feels like our first
