S1 : I got a D on my spelling quiz.
S2 : Don't worry. You can do better next time. I will help you.
S1 : How can you help me?
S2 : I will show you how to memorize big words easily.
S1 : Really? Thanks! But how?
S2 : Even though the words are difficult, try not to think
about them as difficult.
S1 : Is that all?
S2 : No. You should write words down many times.
S1 : Is there any other strategy?
S2 : I don't know. This is what I did and I got good grades.
S1 : I'd better get started then.

T : This time I will show you a video clip. What's the matter? The monitor isn't working.
S1 : Have you plugged it in?
T : Oh, my! Let me check. Yes, you are right.
S2 : The sound is not clear and the volume is too low.
T : You are right. Is that O.K.?
S3 : That's better.

Well, as in most work situations, we have a problem here with communication.
That is, most managers do not want to hear people complain, and most employees are afraid to come right out and say what they feel.
They usually won't say what they like or don't like.
They may complain to each other during lunch or after work, but they do not complain directly to the manager.
It is important, however, for a manager to find out if he or she is doing a good job.
One way to do this is to give employees a chance to talk.
Employees need an opportunity to say what is wrong, what they don't like about the work situation, and what they would change to make their work better.

Reporter : What is the main role of your organization?
Mr. Kim : We gather opinions and requests from people and deliver them to the politicians.
And when we find some politicians not doing their jobs properly, we push them to do their best to fulfill their duties.
Reporter : Why did you choose to work here in Seoul?
Mr. Kim : Well, we talked over this issue for a long time.
And most of the members agreed that it would be better to have our office in the center of political power.
The decision was right and we'll stay here for a while.

What a computer is designed to do is, essentially, arithmetic.
Any problem, however complex, can somehow be broken down into a well-defined series of arithmetical operations that can be solved by a computer.
The computer is amazing not because of its capability to handle arithmetical operations,
but because of the fact that it can perform these operations in one billionth of a second without error.
The human brain, on the other hand, is incredibly poor at arithmetic.
Unlike computers, it needs and has always needed outside help to solve the simplest problems.
We began by counting on our fingers, and have moved on to better things only with the help of pen and paper, Arabic numerals, mechanical calculators and eventually computers.

If you take a closer look at your life, you'll find that you have a life purpose you've been trying to carry out.
For some people, their purpose may be as simple as raising a family or being a good friend or emotionally encouraging others.
These purposes may sound simple or insignificant, but consider how they can be a pleasure to many other lives.
Your life purpose is eventually what benefits you and others as well.
I mean, if you do something that gives you a better life and makes you feel better, it's for the benefit of all.
Sometimes, what you are aiming at may seem like an unimportant detail, but it does good to the whole.

As more women have careers and important jobs, a new kind of family problem is becoming more common.
What happens when a woman is offered a better job in another city?
If she accepts the offer, that means her husband has to leave his job, too.
He may have trouble finding another job in the same city.
Or, the job he finds may not be as good as his old one.
In the past, women often had to face this problem when their husbands found new jobs.
But now it is more and more common for men.
Many men do not accept the situation easily.
A man often feels uncomfortable following his wife to a new city and looking for a job.

Once while hearing a young lady highly praised for her beauty, I asked:
What kind of beauty do you mean?
Merely that of the body, or also that of the mind?
Many a pretty girl is like a flower which is admired for its beautiful appearance, but despised for its unpleasant odor.
It is far better to acquire beauty than to be born with it.

Wherein lies the value of educating aesthetic taste?
The most straightforward answer is seemingly obvious.
There is much pleasure to be derived from appreciation of fine art works, and so providing students the means to appreciate them will make their lives more enjoyable later on.
But this answer itself raises two further questions.
First, does a person's overall aesthetically derived pleasure typically increase when that person is trained to appreciate the 'higher' as opposed to 'lower' art forms?
Second, does appreciation of the 'higher' forms really depend on a person's being educated to appreciate them?
Clearly a third question is implicit here as well, namely: in what sense are the 'higher' forms higher?
The issue of requiring or even encouraging aesthetic education is tied also to the question of whether certain sorts of taste in art are objectively better than others.

Eisenhower's major virtue, which appeared less important in 1962 than it does
now, was a sense of proportion; he had an instinctive knowledge of what could be
done and, more important, what could not be done. As far back as 1951, for example,
when the French were fighting in Viet Nam, he forsaw nothing but swamps. "I'm
convinced that no military victory is possible in that kind of theater," he noted. In
1955 members of his Cabinet predicted imminent war with Red China in the Formosa
Strait. Ike knew better: "I have so often been through these periods of strain
that I have become accustomed to the fact that most of the calamities that we
anticipate really never occur."
* a sense of proportion:

Most of us like the conversational parts of a story better than the others.
This is partly mental laziness, but is also due to the fact that
conversation shows character more quickly than anything else.
Study a few conversational pages in any standard novel known to you, and
note how readily you can build up a mental picture of the speakers from
what they say and the way in which they say it.
Careful study of conversation of this kind is also helpful in forming
habits of pleasant, straightforward talk―a very rare accomplishment.

A:Oh, here it is. Thank you so much.
B:Be careful. You'd better keep them in your pocket.
는 Be quiet 「계속
Keep the
wallet and the passport with you라고 말한다.
이나 Look out!
You'd better~를 You may as well~을 바꾸어 You may as well keep
them in your pocket으로 말해도 된다.

A:Say, What's your favorite sport?
B:Well. it's hard to say. I like all kinds of sports, but I like tennis the
best.
A:How about a game sometime?
B:Sorry. I only like to watch people play it.

My favorite sport's soccer. I like soccer best. Soccer is the sport
I like
best.
Which do
you like better, playing baseball yourself or watching play it?

Social change for the better happens when groups of citizens try to bring
it about. Today, such groups can take on many tasks once performed by
governments. These so-called non-governmental organizations deliver
social services. They are active in various areas from law to medicine.
They watch and influence what governments do at home or abroad. What is
more, they often work better than governments. This is because they are
able to use people from all walks of life.

It is so easy to be reactive! You get caught up in the moment. You say
things you don't mean. You do things you regret later. And you think,
"Oh, if only I had stopped to think about it, I would never have reacted
that way!" Clearly, our lives would be better if we acted based on our
deepest values instead of reacting to the feelings of the moment. What we
all need is a 'pause button' - something that enables us to stop between
what happens to us and our response to it.

Sometimes it may take a lifetime to make the world around you change.
When you are young, it is easy to feel impatient and frustrated with the
delays and seemingly stupid hitches that take place. However, if you are
aware of local and global issues when you are young, your devotion to
making the world a better place will continue. And who knows what you
might achieve in fifty years?

○● Say You Will Be There - Spicy Girl ○●
If you put two and two together
You will see what our friendship is for
If you can't work this equation
Than I guess I will have to show you the door
There is no need to say you love me
It would be better left on said

I gotta take a little time,
a little time to think things over
I better read between the lines,
in case I need it when I'm older
Now this mountain I must climb,
feels like the world upon my shoulders

it keeps me warm as life grows colder

Thanks to better medical care and living environments, the number of old people is constantly increasing.
Therefore, care of the elderly people is a difficult problem for our society to solve.
Who will take care of them in the future: the nursing home or the family?
What will be a good method in the care of the elderly?

In other words, unless we ensure to the enemies of freedom the liberties which they are keen to abuse, then we deny the essence of what we ultimately stand for and are therefore no better thant those to whom we are opposed.
Or as Voltaire has been paraphrased, "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."
On a more practical plane, freedom of speech serves many functions.
One of its most important functions is that decision-making at all levels is preceded by discussion and consideration of a representative range of views.

What the figure suggests is that people are thinking differently and some parents no longer consider it their duty to raise their own children.
But laws and the system have not caught up with this change to provide better child welfare.
The court can seize alimony payments, but the civil court process is lengthy and by the time it is complete, the parent may have no money left after paying legal fees.

You'd better act surprised.
/ About what?
My surprise party!
/ What surprise party?
Oh stop it. Joey already told me.
Well, he didn't tell me.
Hey, don't look at me. This is Ross's thing.

Do you know what it's like to grow up with someone who is critical of every single thing you say?
...I can imagine.
I'm telling you, it's a wonder your mother turned out to be the positive, life-affirming person that she is.
That is a wonder. So tell me something, Mom.
If you had to do it all over again, I mean, if she was here right now, would you tell her?
Tell her what?
How she drove you crazy, picking on every little detail, like your hair... for example.
I'm not sure I know what you're getting at.
Do you think things would have been better if you'd just told her the truth?
...No.
I think some things are better left unsaid. I think it's nicer when people just get along.

I had a dream last night where I was playing football with my kid.
That's nice.
No, no, with him.
I'm on this field, and they, they hike me the baby
And I, I know I've gotta do something 'cause the Tampa Bay defence is comin' right at me.
And I, I know I've gotta do something 'cause the Tampa Bay defence is comin' right at me.
Tampa Bay's got a terrible team.
Tampa Bay
Right, but, it is just me and the baby, so I'm thinkin' they can take us.
And so I uh, hah-hah, I just heave it down field.
What are you crazy? That's a baby!
He should take the sack?
Anyway, suddenly I'm down field,
and I realise that I'm the one who's supposed to catch him, right?
Only I know there is no way I'm gonna get there in time,
So I am running, and running, and that, that is when I woke up.
See I, I am so not ready to be a father.
Hey, you're gonna be fine.
You're one of the most caring, most responsible men in North America.
You're gonna make a great dad.
Yeah, Ross.
You and the baby just need better blocking.

Alright, Cincinnati, no blinds, everybody ante.
Yes!
.... or no.
Alright. Your money's mine, Green.
Your fly is open, Geller.
You guys, you know what I just realized?
'Joker' is 'poker' with a 'J.'
Coincidence?
Hey, that's... that's 'joincidence' with a 'C'!
Uh... Phoebe? Phoebe?
Yeah. Um... I'm out.
I'm in.
Me too.
나도
Me too. Alright, whattaya got.
Well, you better hop outta the shower, cause... I gotta flush.
Well, well, well, hop back in bucko, cause I got four sixes!
I won! I actually won! Oh my God! Y'know what?
I think I'm gonna make a little Ross pile.

Where were we?
Oh, OK... five card draw,
uh... jacks or better... nothing wild, everybody ante.
Look, Rachel, we don't have to do this.
Yes, we do.
Alright, check.
Check.
나도
I'm in for fifty cents.
Call.

I'm in.
I see your fifty cents... and I raise you...
five dollars.
I thought, uh... it was a fifty cent limit.
Well, I just lost a job, and I'd like to raise the bet five bucks. Does anybody have a problem with that?
- Not at all
Loser?
No, I fold.
What do you mean, you fold? Hey, come on! What is this? I thought that 'once the cards were dealt, I'm not a nice guy.'
I mean, what, were you just full of it?
I'm in.
받아
How many you want?
One.
한 장
Dealer takes two.
- What do you bet?
- I bet two dollars.
OK... see your two...
and I raise you twenty.
I see your twenty,
raise you twenty-five.
See your twenty-five...and...uh,
Monica, get my purse.
Rachel, there's nothing in it.
OK, then get me your purse.
OK, here you go. Good luck.
Thank you. I saw your twenty-five, and I raise you...
seven.
7!
...teen!
17!
Joey, I'm a little shy.
That's OK, Ross, you can ask me. What?
What do you need, what do you need?
Fifteen.
15
- Alright, here's ten.
- Here, I got five, I got five.
- Thank you.
- Good luck.
OK, I am calling your seventeen. What do you got?
Full house.
You got me.
- Ahhh, that's alright. Y'know, that's a tough hand to beat.
- I thought we had them!

It's OK. This is gonna work out better for both of us. I figured it all out.
No, you don't figure anything out. This is not your play. Now, where is the damn lD?
It is my play, since I'm the only one who knows where ''the damn lD'' is.
Go ahead.
