One day, a poor man named Scott, came to visit Taylor.

The restaurant belonged to a rich man.

Then Taylor took a bag of money from his belt, a bag of copper coins.
He bent down next to the rich man and shook the bag.
“Listen. Do you hear this sound?” said he.
“Of course I hear it,” shouted the rich man impatiently.
“Well, then,” answered Taylor, “the problem is solved. The debt is paid.
My brother has smelled your food, and you have heard his money.”
The poor man was saved.

What a computer is designed to do is, essentially, arithmetic.
Any problem, however complex, can somehow be broken down into a well-defined series of arithmetical operations that can be solved by a computer.

To comprehend a man's life it is necessary to know not merely what he does,
but also what he purposely leaves undone. There is a limit to the work that
can be gotten out of a human body or a human brain, and he is a wise man
who wastes no energy on pursuits for which he is not fitted; and he is
still wiser who, from among the things that he can do well, chooses and
resolutely follows the best.
한 사람의 일생을 이해하려면 그가 무슨 일을 하는 지 뿐 아니라 무슨 일을
의도적으로 하지 않는 지를 알 필요가 있다. 인간의 육체와 정신이 할 수 있는
일에는 한계가 있으므로 적성에 맞지 않는 일을 추구하는데 정력을 낭비하지
않는 사람이 현명하다. 잘할 수 있는 일 중에서 가장 잘할 수 있는 일을 골라
단호하게 추구하는 사람은 더욱 훌륭하다.

There's nothing to do, so I may as well go to bed.
When are we most creative? Some reporters looked at daily and monthly
records kept by many famous people such as Goethe and Charles Darwin.
These studies indicated that great artists, writers, musicians, and
scientists tend to have peaks of creativity every 7.6 months, followed
by a low period.
Moreover, the studies propose that high points of creativity come in a
longer seven-year pattern. Possibly, we all have high points and low
points in our creative cycles. This may be the reason why we have
"good days" or "bad days" at work, or do well or poorly on an exam.
우리의 창의력이 가장 높아지는 것은 언제인가? 연구자들은 괴테와 찰스
다윈과 같이 유명한 사람들의 많은 기록을 살폈다.
연구에 의하면 위대한 화가, 작가, 음악가, 과학자들은 7.6개월마다 창의력이
절정에 달하며 그후 저조한 시기가 따르는 경향이 있다.
또한 장기적으로 7년 주기로 창의력이 높아진다는 것을 연구가 말해주고 있다.
우리 모두에게도 주기적으로 창의력이 높을 때와 낮을 때가 있는 것 같다.
일이 '잘 풀리는 날'과 '잘 안되는 날'이 있고 시험을 잘 보는 때가 있고
못 보는 때가 있는 것도 이 때문일 것이다.

“주문하시겠습니까?”는 May I take your order? 또는 Are you ready to
order?, What would you like(to have)?등으로 말한다. Well-done, please.는 I
would like to have my steak well-done, pleaes. 를 줄인 말이다. 설 구운것을
rare 알맞게 구운 것은 medium,
그리고 잘 구운 것은 well-done이라고 말한다.
A:Shall we take a taxi or a bus to the meeting?
모임에 가는데 택시를 타고 갈까요, 버스를 타고 갈까요?
B:We'd better take a bus. It's almost impossible to find a taxi during
rush hour.
버스를 타는 것이 좋겠어. 출퇴근 시간에 택시잡기란 거의
불가능해.

Shall we...?=Do you think we should(=can)...? [우리... 할까요?]의 뜻으로
상대방의 의지를 물을때 사용한다. Take a taxi or a bus...? taxi는 높이고
bus는 약간 낮게 발음한다.
We'd better...=We had better... [앉는게 좋겠다]는 We'd better sit down.
혹은
We may as well sit down. 으로 표현한다.
Waiter:How do you want the beef, rare, medium, or well-done?
소고기를 어떻게 구워 드릴까요-설 구워드릴까요, 알맞게
구울까요, 잘 구울까요?

마실것은요?

음, 그냥 물을 주게.

[계란을 어떻게 해 드릴까요?]는 How do you want your eggs? [반숙으로
해 주세요]는 Soft-boiled, please라고 말한다. Anything to drink?는 주어와
동사를 모두 생략한 간단한 권유이다.
정식으로는 Do you want anything to drink? 혹은 Would you like anything to
drink?라고도 한다.
A:It was delicious food. I liked it very much.
음식이 정말 맛있었습니다. 잘 먹었습니다.
B:Thank you for enjoying it.
즐겨 주셔서 감사합니다.
A:Do you want to try some more?

U.S. business" and have often had the feeling that the material would
be marketable here in Korea. It would, of course, first have to be
