[比較] wedding, marriage, nuptials, matrimony, wedlock
Will you dance at my wedding?/ A thousand invitations to the wedding were sent out?
They announced the marriage of their daughter./ Marriage is a basic social institution.
Theirs was a long and happy marriage.
Millions of Britons bought newspapers to read of the royal nuptials.
be joined in bonds of holy matrimony
Children born out of wedlock are children of parents who are not legally married.

June bride
I haven't met Mr. Right yet.

He had a chip on his shoulder.

그래서 have a chip on one's shoulder는 '화가 나다, 살기가 등등하다'입니다.
Everyone in the office chipped in a dollar to buy Patricia wedding present.

They were in high spirits as the newly-wed couple, Kim and Krickitt Carpenter, headed toward Phoenix to spend Thanksgiving with their family.
They were driving their new car and chatting about the Cowboys, the university baseball team that Kim coached back in their hometown of Las Vegas.
It was pitch-dark at 6:30 p.m., and by then Krickitt had taken the wheel.
Kim, who had a head cold, had gotten in the back seat of the car so he could lie down.
Six miles west of Gallup, on Interstate 40, suddenly a truck sped by.
The exhaust smoke from the truck blinded Krichitt.
Kim woke to Krickitt's scream.

They were born out of the habit of Korean housewives of making good use of small, otherwise useless, pieces of leftover cloth.
They are easily folded and take up little space.
So they have become a part of everyday Korean customs and practices.
Although they were created for everyday use, they have added style to special occasions.
A typical example of this is to wrap wedding gifts.
They are also convenient and safe when used to carry things.
Furthermore, they are more durable, economical and environment-friendly than paper or plastic bags.

Will you have good luck if you carry a silver dollar?
Many people believe that carrying a certain coin can bring good luck.
Sometimes women wear a coin on a bracelet for luck.
A coin with a hole in it is supposed to be especially lucky in some countries.
This idea got started long ago, before coins were used.
People believed that a shell or a stone with a hole in it could keep away evil spirits.
Coins with a hole would do the same.
There are many other beliefs about how money can bring good luck:
a jar of pennies in the kitchen will bring good luck.
A coin in the bride's shoe at a wedding will lead to a happy marriage.

In many cultures, people think that love and marriage go together―like bread and wine or meat and potatoes.
They think that love is a necessary foundation for marriage and that you should love the person you marry before you get married.
In other cultures, however, a man and woman may not even know each other before their wedding day.
Romantic love is not essential to marriage in these cultures.
These people expect that love will develop after the wedding if the marriage is a good one.

But what about men? "Jazzercise is a blowout," one Atlanta woman says.
"Remember the first dances you went to, where all the girls ended up dancing with
other girls because the boys couldn't dance? So this gives me a chance to dance,

Lunching at a local eatery, I overheard a conversation between a mother
and daughter about plans for a wedding. The young woman protested that
she was the one being married and should be allowed to make the decisions.
"After all, Mother," the bride-to-be said, "you had your wedding 23 years ago."
"No, dear," came the reply. "That was my mother's wedding."

So great is our passion for doing things for ourselves, that we are
becoming increasingly less dependent on specialized labor.
No one can plead ignorance of a subject any longer, for there are
countless do-it-yourself publications.
Armed with the right tools and materials, newly-weds gaily embark
on the task of decorating their own homes.
Men of all ages spend hours of their leisure time installing their own
fireplaces, laying out their own gardens; building garages and making
furniture.
Some really keen enthusiasts go so far as to build their own record
players and radio transmitters. Shops cater to the do-it-yourself
craze not only by running special advisory services for novices,
but by offering consumers bits and pieces which they can assemble
at home.
Such things provide an excellent outlet to pent-up creative energy, but
unfortunately not all of us are born handymen.

My husband and I own a small business. With the wedding of our daughter,
Cindy, just months away, money was tight. One weekend, Cindy prepared
and sent out invoices to our customers. Almost at once, checks started
pouring in. Even delinquent accounts seemed to be paying up.
We were happy but mystified. Then we took a close look at one of the invoices.
At the bottom, our daughter had typed: "Please pay soon so my parents can
pay for my wedding."

A young woman who was about to wed decided at the last moment to test her
sweetheart. So, selecting the prettiest girl she knew, she said to her,
though she knew it was a great risk:
"I'll arrange for Jack to take you out tonight walk on the beach in the
moonlight, a lobster supper and all that sort of thing―and I want you,
in order to put his faithfulness to the proof, to ask him for a kiss."
The other girl laughed, blushed and assented. The dangerous plot was
carried out. Then the next day the girl in love visited the pretty one
and said anxiously:
"Well, did you ask him?"
"No, dear."
"No? Why not?"
"I didn't get a chance. He asked me first."

Or, you may want to use the photos in a flyer, wedding announcement,
or electronic greeting card.

A:I wonder if they have set a date for the wedding.
B:No, not yet. I hear that they are planning to go to Thailand for their
honeymoon.
I wonder if you can help me?
'날짜를 정한다'란 표현을 쓸 땐 set a date 혹은decide on a date라고 쓴다.
회화에선 I have heard표현을 줄여서 I hear라고 간결하게 표현한다. No, net
yet은 No, they haven't set a date yet을 줄인 표현이다.

A:Have they set a date for the wedding?
B:No, not yet. But Susan says they'd like to get married in November
or December. Then they'll go to Hawaii for their honeymoon.
긍정의 대답으로는 Yes, they have. No, they haven't.
그러나 간단히 No, not yet로 답한다.
set a date(날짜를 정하다)=decide on a day when it will take place. They'd
like~=They would like~, 또는 They want~. Marry me.
Gabdol got
married with Gabsoon으로 한다. Marry with me

I very much appreciate the honor of being invited to the wedding

Every time a fly landed on the wed, it was entangled in it.

Betty was at her niece's wedding recently. She wrote to me all about
the great day, adding that the minister told some funny stories at the
party. Among them was the tale of a priest who called on a member, and
mentioned he hadn't seen her in church recently. "No," she said, "it's
been awfully wet lately." The priest smiled. "But Miss Smith" he reminded
her, "it's dry in the church" "Too true, it's been dry," replied Miss
Smith, "especially the sermons ! "
Smith

[John's Diary]
It felt like a typical cool autumn day this morning. Thanks
to last night's rain, the sky was high and the morning air
was real fresh and moist. Never did I think getting up early
would feel this good. Again, I couldn't hear the next door
mutt barking his head off. Maybe the owner decided it was
time to eat old spot to mark the dog days of summer.
Tsk...Tsk... Poor mongrel. Jill and I would see the first
showing of Neo Killer II. I had plenty of time left, but I'd
better hurry not to be late again.
Today was like ...
표현이 never did I ~식의 부정 도치구문이지요.
Never did I dream you'd love me too.
I never dreamed you'd love me too.
The next door mutt is barking.
이렇게 쉬운 문장을 barking his head off라고 썼습니다.
She cried her eyes out.
She screamed her head off.
Today marks our 30th wedding anniversary.
Spot.
Tsk.
Tsk. Mongrel.
말이니 the first showing이면 되지요.
The Neo theater
offers an extra discount for the matinee showtimes just
before 6 PM.
언제든지 문장을 chop it off!

No one seems to have posted it here yet, so I'll do the honors.
DO THE HONORS
모두 DO THE HONORS라고 합니다.
I would not have Dad walk me down the aisle, they were
outraged and said they would refuse to come to the wedding if
Dad didn't do the honors.
I'm sure that if I am wrong, I will be corrected, so if I am
wrong, please do the honors of correcting me if you have the
correct answer.

One question has us *stumped: If a young woman had sex as a
teen, then chooses chastity until marriage, can she still
wear white at her wedding? ANONYMOUS, PLEASE
▲ stump: to ask someone such a difficult question: 난처하게하다.

DEAR ANONYMOUS: Yes, indeed. A white wedding gown *signifies
a first-time bride, not chastity. And *these days, the old
"rules" have been *relaxed so that a bride may wear
whatever color she chooses, whether it's her first, second or
*subsequent marriage.
▲ signify: to show by a sign:
▲ these days: at the present day: 요즈음.
▲ relax: ease; lessen in tension: 마음을 풀다.
▲ subsequent: following after: 다음의, 그 이후의

DEAR ABBY: This is in response to "Hurt Bride in Texas," who
was upset because her future *sister-in-law "selfishly"
became *pregnant after agreeing to be a *bridesmaid in her wedding.
▲ sister-in-law: the sister of one's husband or wife.
▲ pregnant: having an unborn child in the body: 임신한.
▲ bridesmaid: a maid of honor: 신부 들러리

When I was planning my wedding, my 18-year-old sister
tearfully *announced that she was pregnant after we had
already ordered the bridesmaid dresses. I, too, was upset,
thinking "How could she do this to me on my special day?" I
hurt my sister when I asked another sister to step in for
her.

I will never forgive myself for being so *self-centered and
thinking the whole world *revolved around my wedding. My
*adorable *nephew was born a few months after my wedding and
is now in college. I'm so proud of him, and of my sister who
faced many challenges as a young single mother.
▲ adorable: lovable esp. in a childlike or naive way: 귀여운
▲ nephew: the son of your brother or sister: 조카.

A wedding day is just that one day. Family is forever. This
bride and groom should be *thrilled for his sister. The baby
she's carrying will be their niece or nephew, and they will
regret thinking of it as something that *spoiled their
wedding. MATURE IN MINNETONKA, MINN

Personally, I think "Sue" should *gracefully *bow out of the
actual *ceremony, because chances are she won't feel like
standing up in front of the church for an hour. When I was
eight months pregnant, I was maid of honor in a wedding _ and
I *fainted. Talk about causing a *distraction! Thankfully, my
best friend was kindhearted, and didn't write to Dear Abby
complaining that I'd ruined her wedding. KATHY PHILLIPS
JOSHUA, TEXAS
▲ bow out of something: 사퇴하다.
▲ ceremony: a special formal, solemn, and well-established action: 의식
▲ faint: to suddenly become unconscious for a short time:

He treats me wonderfully and I really don't want to lose him.
But marriage is important to me. I love him and he says he
loves me _ but I'd like it to be his desire to marry me.
Should I give him an *ultimatum? WANTS TO BE WED
▲ ultimatum: statement of conditions to be met under threat
of force: 최후통?.
