A twelfth-century couple, Heloise and Abelard, is often mentioned when romantic love becomes the subject of scholarly discussion.
When they met, Heloise was the niece of a wealthy scholar.
Abelard was the most famous teacher in France.
Older and vastly more educated, Abelard became the girl's tutor.
The two fell in love.
When Heloise bore a son, they married in secret.
The couple did not want Abelard's career to be hurt by scandal.
However, when Heloise's uncle found out what happened, he forced the girl to become a nun.

Americans see much of life as a race for success.
For them, equality means that everyone should have equal chance to enter the race and win.
In other words, equality of opportunity may be thought of as an ethical rule.
It helps ensure that the race for success is a fair one and that a person does not win just because he or she was born into a wealthy family.
President Abraham Lincoln expressed this belief in the 1860s when he said, "We wish to allow the humblest man an equal chance to get rich with everybody else.
When one starts poor, as most do in the race of life, a free society is such that he knows he can better his condition: he knows that there is no fixed condition of labor for his whole life."

Health is generally regarded as a private property. There have indeed been
slogans which have emphasized this, often inaccurately. It is not true, as
sometimes claimed, that "health is wealth." There are many healthy people
who are not wealthy and also the other way around.
Another slogan is to the effect that life is not worth living without good
health. Certainly it is true that good health contributes greatly to the
joy of living and should be preserved and cherished. At the same time there
are many handicapped persons who have been able to make a good life for
themselves and to set a notable example to their fellow human beings by
the courageous way in which they have faced and conquered disability,
disease, and suffering. Obviously it is foolish to sacrifice health
needlessly. It is just as unwise to lie down and give up when your health
is impaired.

He cheat me into a belief that he was wealthy.

Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.

She seemed very rich;that is she appears very wealthy.

Some people believe that if they have much money, they will be happy.
They believe that if they are wealthy, they will be able to do everything
they want, and so they will be happy. On the other hand, some people
value their religion, or their intelligence, or their health ; these make
them happy. For me , happiness is closely tied to my family. I am happy
if my wife and children live in harmony. When all members of my family
share good and sad times, and communicate with each other, I am happy.

The earliest American folk art portraits come, not surprisingly, from
New England ― especially Connecticut and Massachusetts ― for this was
a wealthy and populous region and the center of a strong craft
tradition. Within a few decades after the signing of the Declaration of
Independence in 1776, the population was pushing westward, and portrait
painters could be found at work in western New York, Ohio, Kentucky,
Illinois, and Missouri.

Midway through its first century as a nation, the United States's
population had increased roughly five times, and eleven new states had
been added to the original thirteen. During these years the demand for
portraits grew and grew eventually to be satisfied by the camera. In
1839 the daguerreotype was introduced to America, ushering in the age of
photography, and within a generation the new invention put an end to the
popularity of painted portraits. Once again an original portrait became
a luxury, commissioned by the wealthy and executed by the professional.

The most financially rewarding of all the Academy-Institute awards are
the Mildred and Harold Strauss Livings. Harold Strauss, a devoted editor
at Alfred A. Knopf, the New York publishing house, and Mildred Strauss,
his wife, were wealthy and childless. They left the Academy-Institute a
unique bequest : for five consecutive years, two distinguished (and
financially needy) writers would receive enough money so they could
devote themselves entirely to "prose literature"(no plays, no poetry,
and no paying job that might distract). In 1983, the first Strauss
Livings of $35,000 a year went to short-story writer Raymond Carver and
novelist-essayist Cynthia Ozick. By 1988, the fund had grown enough so
that two winners, novelists Diane Johnson and Robert Stone, each got
$50,000 a year for five years.
Alfred A.

Robert Stone

In colonial America, people generally covered their beds with decorative
quilts resembling those of the lands from which the quilters had come.
Wealthy and socially prominent settlers made quilts of the English
style, cut from large lengths of cloth of the same color and texture
rather than stitched together from smaller pieces. They made these until
the advent of the Revolutionary War in 1775, when everything English
came to be frowned upon.

Among the whole-cloth quilts made by these wealthy settlers during the
early period are those now called linsey-woolseys. This term was usually
applied to a fabric of wool and linen used in heavy clothing and quilted
petticoats worn in the wintertime. Despite the name, linsey-woolsey
bedcovers did not often contain linen.

Prior to the establishment of “the coffee house” as an institution in
England, it was the custom of most inns to give the best seats in the
house (near the fire) to the wealthiest customers. If a wealthy person
or party entered, current customers would be bumped from their table at
a moment's notice. The English coffee house began a new tradition: one
took the best seat available, and no one could move you once you were
seated. Furthermore, as long as discourse was conducted in a civil
fashion, any topic could be discussed: art, sex, religion, politics,
nothing was considered taboo.

A commercial bank official said, 'Many wealthy people receive PB management, and they have invested in ELS and other areas, which can act as a factor in dispute settlement.'

It's just the beginning, Reuters said. "Most wealthy people are considering Singapore as a haven."

On the other hand, the housing rental business, which was favored by wealthy people, has fallen sharply due to stricter government regulations.

Over the past year, the number of customers with 100 million won in assets has increased by 13,508 compared to the previous year, makes a total of 164,603 wealthy customers.

Recently, bancassurance, which is a tax delay, is popular among wealthy people who do not want to take the tax burden of the highest tax rate immediately and do not want to give their assets to their children during their lifetime.

In preparation for these risks, many wealthy people use life insurance.

There are also concerns that private equity funds will eventually be reduced to privileged products for highly wealthy people.

As uncertainties in the global financial market, such as the U.S.-China trade conflict and Japan's export regulations, have increased and interest rate cuts have continued, wealthy people have not been able to find a suitable investment destination.

"Many P2P financial firms, including honest Fund, are preparing to grow into alternative financing in line with the legislation," said Seo Sang-hoon, CEO of Honest Fund. "One of them is to provide asset management platform services that manage and operate assets of various customers, from ordinary office workers to wealthy people."

Since the housing purchase financing plan had been strengthened, wealthy people rarely bought homes only in cash, so the industry sees transactions without loans as gap investments.

< ONE CULTURAL DIFFERENCE > by Kevin O'brian
Money is very different in United States.
For example, I know that here, parents will try to pay for the
children's college education but you take it further.
See, after we're 18 or after we graduate college at least,
Americans are very independant people.
Now, most Americans after they leave home, their money is theirs.
They keep it for themselves.
As Koreans tend to live at home until they get married, except
for one they're at army, one they're living at University.
But if they're not in school or not in the army, they usually
live at home but Americans don't.
Americans only go back home if they are in University or if
they're in financial problems, having financial problems in most
cases.
Now here is the most important part.
Koreans usually, young Koreans, they give a lot of money, maybe
all the money I don't exactly, you would know to the home.
They work and get some money to the parents.
That's one of the advantages of children's staying at home but
also the parents really have a lot of controll over the
children's money.
If it's the children's money, parents have a lots of control.
But Americans will pay their parents some if they're living at
home.
They might pay their parents a little bit of extra money.
But often times you live there for free.
Extra money is your money. Your money is yours.
And when you get married, in America your parents try to pay for
the wedding and maybe they will give you a gift.
If you're wealthy, they might give you a house or a car. But all
of them they're very wealthy.
But, in Korea, most parents want to try to pay for the children's
first apartment and furniture.
So, it's much harder for young Americans because basically
they're expected to pay for everything for themselves.

Ilya : I can't see him.
Tretiak: Then look for him.
Templar: (to Ilya) You have a long, beautiful cane.
IT GOES WITH your beautiful eyes.
(to Tretiak) THAT PHOTOGRAPH DOESN'T DO YOU JUSTICE.
Tretiak: Who are you?
Templar: My name is Bruno Hautenfaust.
I was named for a saint who was a very wealthy man.
Had the wine, the women, the songs, the whole bit. And
then inexplicably took a vow of poverty and became a he-
rmit.. went off to live in the forest. In the nude.
