ex) Some people are so nuts about riding on the largest rollercoasters in the world that they spend each vacation visiting different ones.
- I have a nut to crack with you.: 너에게 의논할 말이 있어.
- tough nut to crack:

1) 하와이에 들리다: stop (over) at the Hawaiian Islands
2) ~의 돌아오는 길에: on one's way (back) from ~
3) 처음의 예정에는 없었다: was not my first plan [or schedule]; did not arrange
Many young Koreans went to America to see and hear a lot then.

ANS 1) It was not my first plan to stop over at the Hawaiian Islands on my way home from America, but while I stayed there (for) a week, I could see and hear a lot.
ANS 2) At first I did not intend to stay at the Hawaiian Islands on my way back from America. But staying there for a week added to my experience [or stock of information].

실현되지 못하고 만 '소망'이나 '의도'는 hoped(intended, wanted)+to have+p.p로도 나타낸다. ex) 그는 당신을 만나기를 바랬었어요(끝내 만나지 못했다는 뜻으로): He had hoped to see you.=He hoped to have seen you.

→ 여러 차례 방문하다: pay numerous visit to~

(ANS) There are indications that North Korea has shown an interest in China a new economic policies. North Korean officials have paid numerous visits, for example, to China's free trade zones, and North Korea's new joint ventures law is apparently patterned after that of China. The North's interest in economic talks with the ROK, which is unprecedented, reflects in some measure this groping for new economic solutions. The North may believe that by improving relations with the South, at least to some degree, it may be able to persuade Western nations to provide the technology, trade and investment that it hopes for and needs.

→ 말벗이 없어서: 말할 상대가 없기 때문에 라고 보고 because she has no one to talk to (또는 with); having no one to talk to (또는 with); with no one to talk to (또는 with)등으로 표현할 수 있다.

[比較] allow, permit, let

[比較] pupil, student, scholar, disciple
The teacher found her pupils exceedingly restless that day./ She has ten pupils to whom she gives instruction in music.
the number of students in the college/ a college student/ student life
I have been a student of Western European politics ever since I visited France in 1944.
The school has five hundred scholars.

Stimulating the government to patch together the plan has been the

end of this year. In the corresponding period, 1.82 million people went
abroad, up 20.8 percent over the previous year, while 1.46 million foreign

On the basis of these principles, which are expressions of a desire for
peace and cooperation, Kim indicated that his government would help the

businesses to expand inter-Korean trade and investment in the
Rajin-Sonbong free trade zone in the North. Also put forward was a
proposal to permit South Korean tourists to visit the North.

I love visiting galleries and museums.
It's so relaxing.
Really? To me, it's tiring.
Well, I guess it can be tiring if you try to see too much in one day.

Good for you!

Because he had a sedentary occupation, he decided to visit a gymnasium weekly.

He looked for a good pretext to get out of paying a visit to his aunt.

The peasant found his visiting relatives' dialelt amusing.

Last Sunday I paid a visit to the zoo in Washington D.C.
I visited the monkeys first.
They were of various types from different parts of the world.
They were all very active, though they had been in their cages for a long time.
Then, we went to the places where the tigers and the lions were kept.
These animals did not seem to be active like the monkeys.
They were all lying down and looking at the visitors.

Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, who promotes Habitat for Humanity, has toured various countries since 1994.
In the summer of 2001, he visited Asan, Korea, to participate in a house-building project.
It was part of Habitat for Humanity International's campaign to build houses for homeless people.
He worked along with volunteers for the program, which is named after him - the Jimmy Carter Work Project 2001.

Many Americans go to France specifically to taste its excellent cuisine.
This is because the appearance and taste of French food are famous throughout the world.
As a matter of fact, though many Americans have difficulty with the French language,
they often know various French food terms, such as pate, souffle, quiche, and croissant.
Although Americans visiting France may have a difficult time speaking French and making friends,
they rarely have difficulty with the food.

Throughout the short history of the exploration of space, several space stations have been put into orbits.
The first manned space station into orbit was the Soviet station Salyut 1.
It was in 1971.
Later, in 1986, the Soviet Union launched the Mir space station.
Mir stayed in orbit until March 23, 2001.
Over that time, 104 astronauts visited the station to stay for various lengths of time.
The person who stayed the longest in space so far is Russian astronaut Valeri Polyakov.
Working as the doctor aboard the station, he lived on Mir for 438 days without returning to the earth.

Because of my job, I was only able to sail during summer vacations,
so the trip around the world had to be broken up into small pieces.
The first section was from New York to Bermuda.
From there, I went to Venezuela, then to the Galapagos Islands and Tahiti.
I wandered all through the South Pacific, stopping for long visits in Fiji.
Occasionally, I would be joined by friends.
But most of the time, my only companions were dolphins and flying fish.
Sometimes a bird would stop by to hitchhike or for a little rest.

One mid-July day I visited Inner Mongolia.
There were endless fields of wild flowers.
Of 1,000 species of wild flowers, 500 herbs are used to make Chinese medicines.
About 80% of all Chinese herbal medicines are from this area.
We stayed in a Mongolian tent.
The grassland around the tent was a sea of forget-me-nots, though different from the ones I know in Korea.
Their leaves and stems seem lean and weak, yet are as hard as wires.
This is to protect them from the long, dry, cold, and windy winter, and to help them to survive through to the spring.
The blue flower is like the 'dew of the stars.'

During a visit to my son and daughter-in-law in Orange, Texas,
I commented on some items for sale there that weren't available In the small Colorado town where I lived.
Stan and Denise later presented me with several things I had admired, but they refused reimbursement.
Before I left for home, I put a check into a kitchen cabinet.
Back in Colorado, I got a phone call from Stan.
I insisted that they keep the money, but he said they'd never cash the check.
“Besides, Mom,” my son added, “you forgot to sign it.”

His first encounter with music was the time when he used to visit his uncle in Owensboro.
Further, he received a guitar from his mother when he was in Florida, after which he shut himself in his room and started learning guitar.
He lost his interest in studies and became more and more attracted to rock-n-roll.
He practiced playing guitar for hours and became very good at it.
Soon, his next aim was to join a rock group to quench his thirst for becoming a rock star.

One day, a poor man named Scott, came to visit Taylor.
He said, “Taylor, I need your help. I am a poor man, a man with no money.”
Taylor looked at him kindly and answered, “I'll help you. Tell me what's wrong.”
Scott said, “Yesterday I stopped in front of the door of a restaurant.
The restaurant belonged to a rich man.
I only smelled the food.
However, he wanted me to pay him for the food.
And he called the judge.
The judge said I must go to the court today.
Please Taylor, can you help me?”
In the court the rich man began shouting angrily at Scott.
And the judge asked Scott to pay him right now.
Taylor stepped forward and then said, “This poor man is my elder brother. I will pay you instead.”
After he heard this, the rich man smiled, thinking about his payment.
Then Taylor took a bag of money from his belt, a bag of copper coins.
He bent down next to the rich man and shook the bag.
“Listen. Do you hear this sound?” said he.
“Of course I hear it,” shouted the rich man impatiently.
“Well, then,” answered Taylor, “the problem is solved. The debt is paid.
My brother has smelled your food, and you have heard his money.”
The poor man was saved.
