→ 「못 가고 말았다」는 「실현되지 못했다」로 풀어서 옮길 수 있다. 「실현하다」는 뜻은 materialize, realize, actualize, fulfill 등으로 나타낼 수 있다.
→ 매주 한 번씩 출강한 일이 있다: I had given weekly lectures.
→ 나에게는 사연이 있었다: I had my own personal reason.
(ANS) Last April I intended to go to Chunchon, but the trip did not materialize after all. I had wanted to visit the Sacred Heart Women's College in that city, where I had given weekly lectures one fall semester. 3. 어머니께서는 말벗이 없어서 늘 외로워하신다. 어제는 숙모님이 오셨는데, 어찌나 기뻐하시는지 말로는 도저히 다할 수 없다.
→ 말벗이 없어서: 말할 상대가 없기 때문에 라고 보고 because she has no one to talk to (또는 with); having no one to talk to (또는 with); with no one to talk to (또는 with)등으로 표현할 수 있다.
→ 외로워하신다: 외롭게 느낀다고 직역하여 feel lonely로 하면 된다.
→ 오셨는데 의 오셨다는 come 만으로도 좋지만 come to visit (또는 see) us라고 하는 것이 좋다.
→ 어찌나 기뻐하시는지, ~할 수 없다: 너무(또는 매우) 기뻐해서 ~할 수 없다로 보고, so ~that …구문을 사용하면 된다.
→ 도저히 ~할 수 없다: cannot possibly~

6. 처음 런던에 가신다면, 누군가의 안내를 받는 것이 좋을 겁니다. 그러는 편이 시간과 노력을 많이 덜게 될테니까요.
→ 「누군가의 안내를 받다」는「누군가에게 안내하도록 부탁하다」로 보고 have+사람+ 원형동사 구문으로 한다.
→ 「그러는 것이 ~을 덜게된다」는 그 앞의 내용을 it로 받아서 Then it will save~의 구문이 자연스럽다.「처음」은 for the first time.
→ 「누군가의 안내를 받다」는 have someone show you around 혹은 ask somebody to take you around.「시간과 노력」을 고지식하게 옮기면 time and energy이지만, time and trouble도 있다.
→ 「내 대신 가게에 가 줄래? 그러면 내가 안가도 되는데」 Will you go to the shop for me? It'll save me a trip.
(ANS 1) If you are going to London for the first time, you'd better have someone show you around the city. It'll save you a lot of time and trouble.
(ANS 2) If this is your first time to go to London, you'd better ask somebody to show you around the city. You can save a lot of time and energy that way.
(ANS 3) If this is your first visit to London you'd better get someone to guide you around the city. Then you can save yourself a lot of time and trouble.

10. 주말에 우리들과 함께 저녁 식사나 하시지 않겠습니까?
→ Would you like to 부정사~? How about ~ing?/ What do you say to ~ing?는 「~은 어떤가요, ~ 하시지 않으렵니까, ~에 대해서는 어떻게 생각하나요」로 상대방의 의견이나 권위쯤을 나타내고 있다.
→「주말에」 at the weekend/ this weekend 「저녁 식사」 supper
→ Have supper나 come to dinner의 경우 관사를 붙이지 않는다. 그러나 어떤 특정한 저녁 식사를 말할 경우, 예를 들면, That was a delicious supper 인 경우는 관사를 붙인다. (Go to [school]과 visit [the school]의 관사의 유무도 위와 마찬가지이다.)

My brother has smelled your food, and you have heard his money.”
The poor man was saved.
