Going from the lowest level of charity to the highest, here are the eight levels:
여기에 가장 낮은 수준부터 가장 높은 것으로 가는, 8가지 단계가 나와 있다.
1. He who gives unwillingly.
마지 못해 주는자.
2. He who gives cheerfully, but not enough.
유쾌하게 주지만 충분히 주지 않는자.
3. He who gives enough, but not until he is asked.
충분히 주지만 요구 받을 때까지 주지 않는 자.
4. He who gives before being asked, but gives directly to the poor man.
요구받기 전에 주지만 가난한 사람에게 직접 주는자.
5. The poor man knows from whom he takes, but the giver does not know who is receiving.
가난한 사람들은 누구로부터 받는지 알지만 주는 사람은 누가 받는지 모른다.
6. The giver knows to whom he gives, but the receiver does not know the giver.
주는 사람은 누구에게 주는지 알지만 받는 사람은 주는 사람을 모른다.
7. The giver does not know to whom he gives, nor does the poor man know from whom he receives.
주는 사람도 누구에게 주는지 모르고 가난한 사람도 누구로부터 받는지 알지 못한다.
8. The highest form of charity is to strengthen the hand of the poor man by giving him a loan, joining him in partnership, or training him out of his poverty, to help him establish himself.
가장 높은 자비의 형태는 가난한자에게 대출을 해주고 파트너로 참여시키고 훈련시켜서 가난에서 벗어나게 함으로써 그들의 손을 강화시키고 그가 자립하도록 돕는 것이다.

Work and play here take on a different meaning, and become equivalent to servitude and freedom.
