(ANS) Born of a poor family, the boy lost his father soon after he was expelled from junior high school. Reared by his mother, he joined the army in 1951 and was discharged from the service after being wounded in action. He resolved to succeed in life by taking up husbandry, and began to bring under cultivation the unused area located on the mountain in his native land.
As many factories started to be built and cities grew, there were more and more jobs in city areas.
As more people moved to cities for the jobs, they needed places to live in.
Soon houses gave way to apartment buildings.
Also, to provide goods and services for so many people, new businesses grew up in the cities.
These new businesses also needed space, and unused land was hard to find.
When most of the land was taken up, builders started to build in the only direction left―up! This is why skyscrapers were first built in the cities.
