turn은 일반적인 색채 없는 말로, 한번 원형으로 도는 것, 몇 번이고 회전하는 것 또는 원의 일부분을 그리는 운동을 나타내며, 축 또는 한 중심의 둘레를 도는 것을 가리킨다. 여기 나오는 다른 말들과 대개 바뀌어 쓰일 수이다.

rotate는 그 자체의 축 또는 중심의 둘레를 도는 것을 뜻한다.
The earth rotates on its axis.
revolve는 때로 rotate와 바꿔 쓰일 수 있지만, 엄밀히는 다른 물체를 중심으로 해서 그 주위를 일정한 궤도로 도는 것을 가리킨다.
The earth rotates (on its axis) once 24 hours and revolves round the sun once each year.
gyrate는 회오리바람처럼 원형 또는 나선형으로 운동하는 것을 암시한다.

spin은 빠르게 계속적으로 rotate 또는 revolve하는 것을 말한다.

whirl은 spin과 뜻은 같지만, 도는 힘, 속도가 한층 강한 것을 암시한다.

그래서 screw around는 난잡한 사생활을 하다라는 의미를 가집니다.
