→ 즐거운 한때를 보내고 싶다 : I hope I will (be able to) have a pleasant (or good) time. I hope to have an enjoyable time. 희망과 바램의 뜻으로, ~을 바라다, 희망하다,<...이기를 >원하다, <...이라고>믿다 등의 영어 표현은 hope 동사를 사용하면 좋습니다. 즉, hope 는 실현 가능성이 있다고 생각되는 경우에만 씁니다.

4. 대학의 좋고 나쁨은 교사와 학생의 능력뿐만 아니고 도서관의 질과 규모에도 좌우된다.
→ 대학의 우열: 대학이 좋고 나쁜가 Whether an university is good or bad; the superiority and inferiority of a college.
→ ~에 좌우된다, ~나름이다: depend on
(ANS) Whether a college is good or bad depends not only on the ability of the teachers and students there, but (also) on the quality and size of the library.
10. 한국인이 지금까지 걸어온 역사적 과정이 그러했을 테지만, 종래의 한국인은 자신의 건강을 돌보는 것을 별로 중요시 해오지 않았던 것 같다.
→ 「한국인」은 여기서는 국민 전체를 말하므로 The Koreans 또는The Korean people이라고 한다. 「지금까지 걸어온 역사적 과정」은 관계대명사를 이용하여 the historical process which ~ have gone through라고 한다.

border는 경계선 바로 안쪽의 표면부분 또는 경계선에 인접한 안팎의 좁고 가느다란 부분을 가리키기도 하고 경계선을 가리키는 수도 있다.

margin은 구별할 수 있는 어떤 표적이 있어서 다른 나머지의 면과 다소 명확하게 가려낼 수 있는 일정한 넓이를 가진 변두리(border)를 말한다.

brink는 벼랑, 낭떠러지 따위의 끝을 말한다. 그래서 the river's brink라고 하면 강 언덕이 가파른 것을 강조하고, the river's brim이라고 하면 강변에 대단히 가까운 것을 강조한다.
이상의 낱말들은 다 비유적 용법을 가지고 있다.

[比較] thoughtful, considerate, attentive
thoughtful은 남이 요구하는 것, 바라는 것을 미리 생각해서 이모저모 배려하고 시중을 들어주어, 남을 편하게 해주는 이기심 없는 관심을 가리킨다.
A thoughtful neighbor, knowing the girl was sick and alone, took her hot food./ It was thoughtful of you to call.
considerate는 남의 감정을 다치지 않고 남의 고통, 고생, 근심을 덜어주거나 없애 주려는 관심을 강조한다.
not considerate, only polite/ She is considerate enough to tell her parents where she goes.
attentive는 친절하고 예의 있는, 헌신적인 행위를 거듭하는 데에 나타나는 끊임없이 남을 위하는 생각을 가리킨다.
an attentive suitor/ Emmy had always been good and attentive to him.
또한 thoughtful과 considerate는 전치사 of를 취하고, attentive는 to를 취한다.
13. 오늘은 날씨가 좋군요.
(X) Today's climate is good.
(O) The weather is good today.
→ climate는 일정 지역의 기후의 특징이고 오늘이나 내일같이 구체적인 '날씨'를 말할 때는 weather를 쓴다.

어디론가 움직이는데 (COME TO SOMETHING) 뭔가를 가지고 간다 (WITH SOMETHING)는 뜻입니다. 대개 사람에게 씁니다. 특히 직업이나 직책을 맡았을 때 그 사람을 설명하는 형태로 쓰입니다. She comes to the job with good qualities. 새 일자리 맡은 여자 자질이 있더군.
Is the money good?: 돈벌이는 잘 됩니까?
→ How's the money?도 같은 뜻.
fall flat: 실패하다, 무위로 끝나다.
ex) Jack's suggestion fell flat at the meeting; no one thought it a good idea.
(회의석상에서 Jack의 제안 사항은 신통치 않은 반응을 얻었다. 그것이 좋은 아이디어라고 생각한 사람이 없었던 것이다.)
그녀는 정말로 주의를 기울여 잘 해나간다.
