→ 어떻게 부르면 좋을지 망설이다: have a hard time deciding what to call the occasion
→ …라고 부르는 것도 알맞지 않다: nor is it properly called~
Chusok deeply rooted in the culture of Korea; Chusok with a special importance; have a remarkable significance
(ANS) Because there are so many levels of meaning to Chusok, foreigners often have a hard time deciding what to call the occasion. It is not the same as Thanksgiving celebrations, though it includes the thanks for the harvest and the family gathering and eating. Nor is Chusok properly called an autumn moon festival, for the more important meaning to Koreans is to be found in the veneration of the family ancestors. Probably the most important thing about Chusok today is its very Koreanness. At a time when the people of this country are deeply concerned to discover and affirm their true national identity, events with a long history in the culture of Korea a special importance.

The Korean Chusok has no parallels./ No one has anything quite like the Korean Chusok.
→ 재임시: during the reign of~
→ 일가친척에 은혜를 베푼 조상에 감사의 제물을 바치다: offer sacrifices of gratitude to one's family ancestors for all they did for the clan and family
→ 가족이 서로 모이는 날: the day for family reunion/gathering
→ 휘영청 밝은 만월의 달빛 아래서: in the light of the full moon
→ 원무: circle dance
(ANS) Many nations have harvest festivals and Thanksgiving days, while many other cultures observe the veneration of ancestors, but no one has anything quite like the Korean Chusok. Historians tell us that the Chusok festival originated during the reign of the third king of the Silla Kingdom nearly 2,000 years ago. Chusok involves many things. It is an offering of thanks to heaven for the harvest, an appeal for the good fortune of another harvest in the next year, and an offering of sacrifices to one's family ancestors for all they did for the clan and family. In addition, of course, there are family gathering, much hearty eating, and such activities as the circle dance in the light of the full harvest moon.

→「요 전날 밤/ 전날 밤」 the other night
→「사람을 집에 묶게 하다」 have someone [people] to stay

The human brain has two hemispheres.
Although the hemispheres cooperate for many functions, they control very different activities.
Thanks to the left side of our brain, we are able to master and control language, using it to communicate our thoughts.
It is the left side of our brain that helps us make sense.
It gives order and logic to our speech.
The right hemisphere is less important to language production and appear to be more related with the creation of images.
Research suggests that the right brain dominates during infancy.
Babies perceive the world by visualizing, which is controlled by the right side.

Susie remembers the day when she was on the stage as a professional singer for the first time.
It was long after she had been discovered at a singing contest.
Despite her late debut, Susie is now popular among many Asians.
Thanks to the success of her debut album, My love, released two years ago, and recent television roles in Japan, she no longer feels unsure of her abilities.
She says, “I would give myself only 20 points for singing when I first started out. Now, after practicing in the recording studio every day, I give myself 90 points.”

For the past half-century, those lucky enough to have been born in a rich country have had every prospect of growing richer.
On average, incomes in Britain, America and Japan have easily doubled over that time.
On top of this come the benefits of longer lives of better quality, thanks to advances in medicine
and to a plethora of consumer goods making living easier and more enjoyable.

Trying to get my teen-age son to clean his room was a monumental struggle.
Finally I threatened, "If you don't have that room cleaned by Monday,
I'll clean it for you!"
Monday morning came, and it was still a disaster. As he left for school,
I reminded him of my threat. As it happened, I was so busy I never got

A few moments later he came back into the kitchen, put his arm around
my shoulders and said, "Thanks, Mom, you cleaned my room just the way
I like it."

Care for a cup of coffee?
No thanks. I seldom have coffee in the evening.
My mother doesn't, either.
Coffee keeps me awake. I'll have tea.
I'll have tea, too.

Yes, I do, but the tickets are all sold out.
You can have mine. Here you go.
you're giving it to me for nothing?
Sure.
Thanks a milion! They don't call you Mr. Santa for nothing!

I'ven't seen you for a long time. How have you been?
I've been fine, thanks. And you?

There are "bad" genes as well as "good" ones.
Bad genes are actually mutated good genes which, because of altered DNA messages, do not function normally.
Until recently, there was no way to isolate and characterize bad genes.
They were known only by their consequences: disease.
Today, however, thanks to the development of powerful new ways for studying DNA, there is a flood of information about the faulty genes implicated in virtually every major human disease, including diabetes, cancer, and asthma.
Every week or so a new disease gene is discovered.

Thanks to better medical care and living environments, the number of old people is constantly increasing.
Therefore, care of the elderly people is a difficult problem for our society to solve.
Who will take care of them in the future: the nursing home or the family?
What will be a good method in the care of the elderly?

In the world of birds, bill design is a prime example of evolutionary
fine-tuning. Shorebirds such as oystercatchers use their bills to pry
open the tightly sealed shells of their prey, hummingbirds have
stilettolike bills to probe the deepest nectar-bearing flowers, and
kiwis smell out earthworms thanks to nostrils located at the tip of
their beaks. But few birds are more intimately tied to their source of
sustenance than are crossbills. Two species of these finches, named for
the way the upper and lower parts of their bills cross, rather than meet
in the middle, reside in the evergreen forests of North America and feed
on the seeds held within the cones of coniferous trees.

City and country dwellers, of course, conducted this pursuit in
different ways. Farm dwellers in their isolation not only found it
harder to locate companions in play but also, thanks to the unending
demands and pressures of their work, felt it necessary to combine fun
with purpose. No other set of colonists took so seriously one expression
of the period, "Leasure is time for doing something useful."

but.. thanks for sharing.

What's it look like?

Kinda like a big face without skin.
Yes, I'm familiar with the concept. We can just look for it.

Ok, thanks Pheebs.
Oh my God, why have I never tasted these before?!

Oh, I don't make them a lot because I don't think it's fair to the other cookies
All right, well, you're right, these are the best oatmeal cookies I've ever had.
Which proves that I never lie.
I guess you don't.

(Joey stares at her) I-I'm, I'm RonniCheese Nip?
Uh, Joey's having an embolism, but I'd go for a Nip, y'know?

That sounds so weird when it's not followed by "No thanks, it's late."
Okay.
Now this is just for tonight. Starting tomorrow, you gotta make a change. This has gone on long enough.
What kinda change?

What?
Oh, I cursed it.
So now bad things will happen to he who spends it.
That's alright, I'll take it. Bad things happen to me anyway. This way I can break 'em up with a movie.

You have to let it run its course.

Well, we'll let it run its course under proper supervision.
I won't take no for an answer on this.

The guy said it was natural. That it wasn't a drug.
I mean, jimson weed is a plant.
Most drugs derive from plants. That doesn't make them safe.
Or legal, for that matter.
Yeah, but he said it was safe. That's why we bought it.
Did you take the drug, too?
Yeah,

we both did.
You drink it. It's a tea.
