After many years, critical attention has finally been paid to the portion of the Miss America pageant called the swimsuit competition.
Thankfully, people are beginning to complain about this event.
In 1996, a telephone poll was conducted to determine if the swimsuit competition should remain.
Although the majority of callers voted to keep it, a good portion was critical and argued that the swimsuit competition should be eliminated.
The question will undoubtedly be raised again, and the next time the answer may well be different.
Let's hope so, because this portion of the pageant only lowers the dignity of women.
