Announcing the government's plan to restructure the current
communications service rates in a press conference yesterday,
Minister of Information and Communication Kang Bong-kyun said
that the new pricing policy is primarily aimed at helping local
telecom companies strengthen their competitiveness before the
telecom market opening in 1998.

거래가 성사되면 현재 T모바일 지분 44%를 갖고 있는 도이치텔레콤의 지분율은 50%를 넘어설 전망이다.

At the center of the focus is LG, which is leading one of the two
consortiums for a single license since it lost the IMT-2000 license
to Korea Telecom by a slim margin.
단독 사업자 선정을 위한 두 컨소시엄 가운데 하나를 이끌고 있는 LG가
IMT-2000 사업자 선정에서 근소한 차이로 한국통신에 패했기 때문에
모든 관심의 초점은 LG에 집중되어 있다.

technology.

With Korea Telecom holding an 18 percent stake in KDB, its partners
in the potentially lucrative venture are the Korea Broadcasting

On one hand, LG does have the consensus and ``sympathy'' on its
side since people will cry foul if Korea Telecom once again wins
the satellite broadcasting license, although the case would be
similar for SK Telecom if KSB wins.
한편으로 만일 이번 위성 방송 사업자에 한국통신이 또다시 선정되면
너무 부당하다는 주장이 일 것이기 때문에 LG는 여론과 "동정표"를 갖고
있는 셈이다. 그러나 만일 KSB가 선정되면 SK텔레콤도 비슷한 경우가
될 것이다.
