1) 그 전도유망한 학자: the promising scholar; the scholar of great promise
2) 연구하던 도중에: before he could complete his studies
3) 불운한 일: a misfortune; unfortunate
I am extremely sorry that you could not go with us.

[比較] regardless, irregardless, irrespective
I will leave irregardless of what he says라고 하는 수가 있지만, 무식한 비표준적인 용법이다.
The arrangements must be made regardless of (or irrespective of) his personal feelings in the matter.
I'll do it regardless(하여간 그것을 하겠다)는 regardless of what you think(네가 어떻게 생각하든 상관없이), regardless of that might happen(무슨 일이 일어나든 상관없다)의 뜻이다.
regret, sorry, deplore, lament
Mr. Lee regrets that he will be unable to accept the kind invitation of Mr. Kim for the sixteenth.
I'm sorry I made you cry.
He deplored the conduct of compatriots in European cities.
He paused to lament the brave men who were not there to hear him speak.
I lament that your conduct has made it necessary for me to speak to your father.

Sorry, I must have THE WRONG PERSON.

Don't BUTT IN while I'm speaking.
Cf) Butt in - interrupt, CUT IN

A : How dare you eavesdrop on our conversation?
B : I didn't mean it. I'm sorry. I'll get off the telephone extension right this minute.

Sorry, I don't have anything smaller.

I'm a little bit short lately.
cf) A lot of people ask me how short I am.(짧다)
Since my last divorce I'm about 100 grand short.(쪼달린다)
Slang : I'm sorry, I'm a little bit low on dough(short) lately.
ex) I ran short and couldn't buy it.

Sorry for barging(intruding) in like this.

I'm sorry I'm calling at this late(early) hour.

I like the idea, I want in.
I`m sorry. I want out.

Sorry for the slip of the tongue.
* 말을 잘못한 것은 slip of the tongue라고 한다.
I didn't mean it.
It was a slip of the tongue.

Sorry, it slipped my mind.
It slipped my mind

Sorry, you missed the boat
* You missed the boat 또는 you missed the bus라 하면 우리나라

Sorry for getting in your hair
* get in someone's hair는 누구를 성가시게 괴롭히는 것이고
get out of someone's hair는 더 이상 귀찮게 굴지 않는다는
여기에서 연류된 것이라 생각된다. get on someone's nerves나
get under someone's skin도 같은 의미인데 전치사에 유의해야

Better safe than sorry.

I`m sorry, but he`s out at the moment.

Curiosity killed a cat.
-
cat은 여자에 비유되기도 합니다. 특히 입이 거친 심술궂은 여자로. -_-;

I feel sorry for him. He's living under the cat's foot.
You're a copy cat.
He is always taking a cat nap.
-
enough to make a cat speak라고 하면
