Three months ago, one of our neighbors, Bill accidentally destroyed some property
belonging to another neighbor who was out of town at the time.
Bill did not inform the neighbor of the damage, but he did tell my husband.
This did not seem fair to me.
So, several weeks after the neighbor returned home,
I knocked on their door and told them what had happened, under condition that they would not tell my name.
However, our agreement was broken and when they contacted Bill, somehow my name was in the mix.
I was very disappointed with such immature behavior.

Some evidence suggests, though, that these theories may be incorrect.
In Australia, scientists have dug up bone and eggshell fossils that indicate a massive die-off of large animals about 46,000 years ago.
This extinction occurred after humans arrived on that continent about 52,000 years ago.
These time frames suggest that people are responsible for the animals' disappearance.
Similar evidence comes from North America.
Humans arrived there about 13,000 years ago.
Approximately 1,200 years after their appearance, about thirty species of large animals were gone.

Some years ago, Fortune magazine conducted a survey of many of the CEOs of Fortune 500 companies.
The goal was to try to find traits that these successful people had in common.
Surprising to say, there weren't many! Some of these top executives had gone to excellent universities, others not.
Some brought years of experience to their jobs, while others had enjoyed a quicker rise to success.
One of the few things they shared was that, along the way, they had each experienced a major career setback.
Most of them, in fact, had been fired from at least one job.
Understandably, none of them at the time felt they had been treated fairly.
Dwelling on life's unfairness and cruelties will not make your life better.
Those CEOs learned to move beyond setbacks.
We might even conclude that, without confrontation with negative events, they would not be where they are today.

I recently had an encounter with a dog owner letting his large German shepherd run free around the park.

Dog owners like these two men usually say their dogs are “safe.” But I've seen apparent “hellos” escalate into vicious fights between two “nice dogs.” Dog fights are brutal and bloody affairs impossible to break up without risking serious injury.
I was seriously bitten some years ago breaking up a fight between my dog and an unleashed dog, and had to have stitches and a rabies shot as a result.

in the San Francisco-New York venture firm of Weiss, Peck & Greer.

A generation ago, in the early 1970s, Greer was one of the early
investors in a struggling young company called Federal Express, then run
by a 20-something entrepreneur, Frederick W. Smith, who had the brash
idea of delivering mail and packages overnight.
그는 1970년대 초 당시 어려움을 겪고있던 신생사인 페더럴 익스프레스의
투자가 중 한사람이었다.
이 회사는 당시 20대의 젊은 기업가 프레드릭 W. 스미스씨가 경영을 맡고

Smith had already burned through two substantial rounds of funding in
building his fleet of airplanes. Though the business indicators looked
good, Federal Express's coffers were empty. And it was a day when people
clung to the quaint idea that a company had to show a profit to go
public.

became a very lucrative investment for the VC firm. ``I was traveling to
the board meetings fairly often, and I could see things turning
around,'' he says now.
