When I started snow-boarding and then decided to turn professional, it wasn't really a career option.

As the snow piles up higher in a woodland over the course of winter,

The effects of CO2-induced climate warming on Antarctica have been studied using numerical models that simulate ice flow and changes in ice sheet and ice shelf size over time (Huybrechts and Oerlemans 1990, Budd et al. 1994).

The model predictions can be summarized in three main points.

First, the glaciers and ice shelves of the Peninsula are lost.

Solitary roosters shelter in dense vegetation or enter a cavity - horned
larks dig holes in the ground and ptarmigan burrow into snow banks - but
the effect of sheltering is magnified by several birds huddling together
in the roosts, as wrens, swifts, brown creepers, bluebirds, and anis do.
Body contact reduces the surface area exposed to the cold air, so the
birds keep each other warm. Two kinglets huddling together were found to
reduce their heat losses by a quarter and three together saved a third
of their heat.

Summer travel in the boggy lands, or muskeg country, of the Subarctic's
taiga was also slow and arduous. Tracking animals was more difficult
than it was during the winter when the swampy ground was frozen solid
and covered with snow.

The prevailing winds in the Great Basin are from the west. Warm, moist
air from the Pacific Ocean is forced upward as it crosses the Sierra
Nevada. At the higher altitudes it cools and the moisture it carries is
precipitated as rain or snow on the western slopes of the mountains.
That which reaches the Basin is air wrung dry of moisture.
