There are some characteristics of local governments in the U.S. that set them apart from those in most other countries.
In the U.S., local government is a local “self-government.”
This means that the people of a community decide for themselves, through locally elected officials, what will be done within the community.
In contrast, a local government in most other countries is a system through which the national government administers the affairs of the various districts of the country.
