"여기서는 금연입니다." 문법적으로는 이상이 없지만,
이렇게 쓰이지는 않는다는 것이 문제이다.
미국인들은 '흡연'을 to-부정사가 아니라 동명사를 써서 smoking으로 표현한다.
그래서 '금연' 표지에도 'Do not smoke'가 아니라 'No smoking'이라고 표시된다.
no smoking이 형용사구로 쓰이면 no가 non-으로 바뀌는 것에 유의해야 한다.
요즘에는 간접 흡연(second-hand smoking)의 위험으로 금연석(non-smoking section)이
보편화되고 있다.
