* 위의 말이나 Do you make good money?라 하면 돈벌이가
괜찮냐는 뜻이다. 우리는 돈을 번다라고 하는데 미국사람들은
make money라 한다. 그리고 만약 한 달에 3,000달러를 번다면
세금이나 경비를 제한 gross income(총수입)인지 아니면
세금을 공제하고 난 net income(순수입)인지 알 수 없다.
따라서 before taxes라 하면 세금 공제전이란 뜻이고
after taxes라 하면 세금 공제후 란 의미이다.
그리고 '월급쟁이'를 salaried worker라 하는데 일본식
영어인 salary man도 통용되고 있으나 좋은 영어는 아니므로
salaried worker를 쓰는 것이 좋다. '봉급'은 salary 또는
wage라 한다. 공제할 것을 빼고 집에 들고 가는 봉급을
take-home pay라 한다.

엣날 로마시대 병사들은 급료를 받을 때 소금으로 받았는 것에서 유래
되어서 급료, 월급 (wages, salary)를 표현 할 때 salt가 쓰이게 되었
