Internet technology company Spyglass Inc. said on Wednesday it agreed to
upgrade the technology behind Rockwell Collins Inc.'s in-flight
entertainment system and add Internet capabilities.
인터넷 기술개발업체 스파이글래스사는 2일 기존 록웰 콜린스사의 '기내오락
시스템'에 이같은 인터넷 기능을 추가, 개발할 예정이라고 밝혔다.
The redesigned Total Entertainment System would allow Rockwell's airline
customers, such as American Airlines, Delta Air Lines Inc., and British
Airways Plc., to offer their passengers features including
audio-on-demand, video-on-demand, multiplayer games, and Web access.
이른바 '토털 엔터테인먼트 시스템(TES)'에 이같은 부가서비스 기능이 강화될
경우 아메리카항공, 델타항공, 브리티시항공 등 록웰의 고객항공사는
승객에게 주문형 오디오-비디오 서비스나 다자간 컴퓨터게임 그리고 인터넷
접속서비스를 제공할 수 있게 된다.
Spyglass technology would let content providers develop applications in
HTML, an industry standard programming language for the Internet,
Spyglass Vice President of Interactive Television Anup Murarka told
Reuters.
아누프 무라카 스파이글래스사 쌍방향TV 담당 부사장은 정보제공업체(Content
Provider)가 표준 인터넷 프로그래밍 언어인 HTML을 이용해 응용 프로그램을
개발할 수 있을것이라고 내다봤다.
``(Through a server installed in the planes), passengers can have all
the benefits of the Web,'' said Murarka. ``There is all the
communication that can happen inside the plane from seat to seat...and
communication between the plane and the rest of the world.''
무라카는 "승객은 비행기에 설치된 서버를 이용해 인터넷을 이용할 수 있게
될 것"이라며 "이같은 기술은 사람들이 비행기안에서 외부 세계와 통신할 수
있는 기회를 줄 것"이라고 전망했다.
Murarka said the company is licensing its HTML engine, graphics library,
and Web server to Rockwell. Murarka did not have details about when the
airlines would upgrade their TES systems.
그는 스파이글래스사가 자사의 HTML엔진과 그래픽 자료, 웹 서버 등을 록
웰사가 이용할 수 있도록 준비중이라고 말했다. 그러나 그는 항공사들이 언제

Rockwell Collins is a unit of Milwaukee, Wis.-based Rockwell
International Inc., an electronics and communications equipment
manufacturer.
