→ 주로 어린이의 잘못을 꾸짖는 경우에 많이 쓰이는 것이 scold이고 '호통이 떨어지다'라는 의미에 가장 가까운 것은 구어적인 bawl out이다. reproach, reprimand등은 가벼운 표현이다.

A:The vice-president of his compnay overestimated the demand and they
produced too much. The board of directors is considering reprimanding
him.
B:They'd better let bygones be bygones. The vice-president didn't
mean to cause the problem.
A:I think they'll have to find ways to sell their products, instead
of selling him short.

일으키려고 했던 것은 아닐테니까요.
A:그 회사는 부사장을 멸시하고 있을게 아니라 물건을 팔 방법을 찾아야
하겠군요.
