After the First World War, the author Anais Nin became interested in
the art movement known as Surrealism and in psychoanalysis, both of
which influenced her novels and short stories.

Psychoanalysts believe that understanding these unconscious motives is very important.
If patients can have that kind of understanding, called insight, they have taken the first step toward gaining control over their behavior and freeing themselves of their problems.
