오덕균 전 CNK인터내셔널 대표는 2014년 4월 카메룬 다이아몬드 광산의 매장량이 4억1600만 캐럿에 달한다는 허위 보도자료를 배포해 주가를 조작한 혐의로 검찰에 구속 기소됐다.
Former CNK International CEO Oh Deok-kyun was arrested and indicted by prosecutors in April 2014 on charges of manipulating stock prices by distributing false press releases that Cameroon diamond mines have reserves of 416 million carats.
재판부는 "피고인은 중국 측 자본을 유치하지 못하면 중국 공장 완공이 어렵다는 사실을 충분히 알고 있었으면서도 중국 진출이 별문제 없이 진행되는 것처럼 7∼8개월 동안 여러 차례 인터뷰를 하거나 보도자료를 배포했다"고 지적했다.
"The defendant was fully aware that it would be difficult to complete the Chinese plant without attracting Chinese capital, but interviewed or distributed press releases several times for 7 to 8 months as if the entry into China was proceeding without any problems," the court noted.
