“그곳에서 그들은 금과 은으로 치장이 되어 따뜻한 방 한가운데 놓여지고 아이들이 우러러보지.”
“나에게도 그런 일이 일어나면 얼마나 좋을까!” 소나무가 탄식했다.
“아가야, 너는 진정한 축복을 받았단다.” 태양이 말해주었지만 소나무는 이해하지 못했다.
소나무는 들떠서 조급해 하며 항상 떠나게 되기를 바랐다.

소나무는 트럭에 실려 크고 아름다운 집으로 갔고 모래를 채운 함지박에 세워졌다.
그곳에서 사람들은 소나무에 아름다운 장식을 달고 가지에 많은 다채로운 색깔의 전구를 달았다.
“사람들이 전구를 켜주기만 한다면, 난 얼마나 멋져 보일까!” 득의양양한 소나무가 말했다.
Finally, the bulbs were lit and the tree became a sparkling, glittering mass.

“If only the other trees in the forest could see me now, how envious they would be!” thought the tree.
마침내 전구가 켜졌고 소나무는 온통 불빛으로 반짝였다.
소나무는 자신의 아름다움을 자랑스러워했다.
“숲 속에 다른 나무들이 지금의 내 모습을 본다면 얼마나 부러워할까!” 소나무가 생각했다.
But Christmas was soon over and the pine tree was discarded and thrown into the yard.
It lay there sadly, its dry needles falling off one by one.
Finally, a man came and chopped it up for firewood.
In the fireplace, the wood blazed brightly, but it sighed so deeply that every sigh was like the short explosion from a gun.
The tree thought of its life in the forest as it burned and turned into ashes.
