태양전지 (Solar photovoltaic cell)
광기전력효과(photovoltaic effect)를 응용함으로써 태양에너지를 직접
전기에너지로 변환할 수 있는 소자. 광기전력효과에서와 같이 태양광에 의해서
발생된 전하운반자(Carrier)는 내부전기장에 의하여 외부회로를 통하여 흐르게 됨
주 : 실제로 전지로 구성된 집합체는 모듈(module)에 부착되고 모듈은 다시
판이나 배열(arrays) 형태 (직렬, 병렬 또는 직.병렬 혼합형)로 제작됨.
현재 태양전지의 응용은 전지의 특성을 최대 활용할 수 있는 조건을 갖고
있는 분야에 국한되어 있다. 즉 적은 전력을 필요로 하는 외딴지역에,
예를들어 태양펌프, 광학신호, 통신, 밧데리충전, 인공위성전원, 전기분해,
화학전지 또는 밧데리의 대체용 (시계, 계산기, 장난감...등)으로 활용되고 있음.
태양전지의 적용을 확대해서 생각해 보면 대규모 광발전소를 들 수 있으나
모듈값이 내려가야만 가능하다는 판단임.
