put down은 원래 글자 그대로 무엇을 '내려놓다'는 뜻이다.

하면 '그거 여기 내려 놓으세요'란 말이다. 그러나 동양인이라고

하면 '내가 동양인이라고 깔보지 말라'는 말이 된다.
그러니까 put down은 '깔보다'는 뜻으로 쓰인다.
look down on도 같은 뜻으로 쓰인다. 또 put down은 장부에
'기록하다'는 뜻도 된다.
