1) 깊이 감동해서: with reverence; with a deep sense of gratitude
2) 인식하다: accept; face
→ 「둘도 없는」은 말 그대로는 irreplaceable이지만, most precious; more valuable than any thing else처럼 번역하는 것이 좋을 것이다.

→ 부정적인 의견을 말할 경우 I think…not…이 아니고 I don't think…
→ In my view 와 I think는 같은 뜻이기 때문에 (In my view) (I think that) ~는 장황해져서 부자연스럽다.
→ My own view is that it doesn't matter who wins the election.
→ 「개인적으로 말하면」 personally/ personally speaking/ in my views/ in my opinion/ My own view is that~.
ANS) Personally, I don't think it makes any difference who wins the election.

→ 이와 같은 추세: this trend; this change of wind ex) 한국 여론의 추세는 그 정책에 대해서 반대적이다.(Korean public opinion is running against the policy.)
→ 학계: the academic circle
→ …을 고수하다: stick to~

I think; in my opinion으로 한다. 주의할 것은 I think와 in my opinion을 한꺼번에 쓰지말 것이다. 「가까운 장래에」는 in the near future라고 할 수 있으나, 여기서는 the day will soon come when… 「물 부족」-a shortage of water <참고> 「유류 부족」-a shortage of oil.
(ANS 1) In my opinion, the day will soon come when we will suffer from a shortage of water.
(ANS 2) I think it will not be long before we suffer from a shortage of water supply.

I think I'll shop around.

``I don't want public opinion divided by a prolonged trial. I
would rather see everything settled 1)once and for all with my
sacrifice,'' Chun was quoted as saying by a lawyer on the defense
team.
1)once and for all

Don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out your own inner voice.

In my thought, she's pretty. (X)
표현으로는 'in my eyes' 'in my view' 'in my opinion'
'in my mind' 'to my thought' 혹은 이것저것도 생각나지 않는다면
① I think she's pretty hot.(그녀는 정말 예쁜 것 같아.)

She won't open her mind. (X)
'not open one's mind'는
① She doesn't have an open mind.(그녀는 마음이 넓지 못해.)
② She won't look at both sides of the issue.
③ Nothing will change her mind.(무엇으로도 그녀의 마음을 바꿀 수 없어.)
④ She's not willing to listen to other opinions.(그녀는 다른 의견에 귀기울이지 않아.)

Do you agree to my opinion? (X)
물론 "Do you agree?"
① Do you agree with me?(내 말에 동의합니까?)
② Are you with me?(나와 의견이 같습니까?)
③ Do you agree with my opinion?(내 생각에 동의합니까?)
④ Do you see it like I do?(나와 같은 시각으로 상황을 보고 있나요?)

On the other hand, the two opposition Kims can maintain or elevate
their political stature as "partners in politics" with President Kim. At the
same time, the two may well take advantage of the summit to expound
their views and present policy opinions to the President, in an effort to
sharpen their political offensives.

There is no reason for the municipal council to commit this folly and
provoke citizens' discontent or protests, in disregard of reason and
public sentiments. As we recall, the council made a similar attempt in
1992, but gave it up in the face of negative public opinion.

The, how would you suggest we go about getting a first-hand objective opinion?

First, have each person give a brief report. Then ask everyone to share their opinions about what they've heard.

S2 : I agree with you! I don't think long hair is bad.
S1 : When do you think our school is going to let us have any hair style we want?
S2 : Maybe soon. Don't make it an issue.
S1 : Why not?
S2 : Not every teacher and student agrees.
S1 : I think most students agree. Our opinion is just as important as the opinion of others.
S2 : You may be right.

At first, the two candidates were in disagreement on every issue, but as the campaign went on, their opinions seemed to converge.

In a pluralistic democracy, such as the United States, there is a little chance that a monolithic public opinion will develop on any controversial issue.

Jack is a good leader.
If you ever had a chance to join any of his group meetings, you would notice right away that he enjoys guiding others.
He always encourages them to participate in what is going on.
When there are decisions to be made, he listens to everyone's opinions and respects their suggestions.
So people cannot but like him very much, The only bad thing I can say about him is that I don't see him often enough.
Jack

Your station has lost me and my family as viewers on Thursday evening.
We were so offended by your new situation comedy show “Hold the Plow” that we will avoid your station from now on.
Since the program was about rural life and we come from that background, we eagerly tuned in the show.
But it was a complete failure!
The program portrayed farmers and rural life in a silly way without ever letting viewers know the true life in the country.
Other viewers who know rural life will undoubtedly share my opinion.

Everyone waits for sales. Good shoppers look for sales because at a sale, prices are low.
They can save money at a sale. Shoppers always buy more and spend more during a sale.
That is the opinion of most store managers at the mall.
They claim that the only times shoppers really spend money are when they think they are saving money.
Because of this, the store managers plan different kinds of sales for their stores every chance they get.

There are some music-sharing Websites such as Napster on the Internet.
So, millions of surfers can upload and download MP3 files for free.
Some say there is nothing wrong with this.
Others strongly criticize the music-sharing Websites.
In my opinion, artists have a right to say they don't want their music to be uploaded to the free music community.
We have to remember that artists make a living from their music.
So we need laws that stop the online operators from providing that service without the artists' permission.

Reporter : What is the main role of your organization?
Mr. Kim : We gather opinions and requests from people and deliver them to the politicians.
And when we find some politicians not doing their jobs properly, we push them to do their best to fulfill their duties.
Reporter : Why did you choose to work here in Seoul?
Mr. Kim : Well, we talked over this issue for a long time.
And most of the members agreed that it would be better to have our office in the center of political power.
The decision was right and we'll stay here for a while.

There are many ways to communicate.
Gestures using motions are very common in communication all over the world.
Every gesture expresses different meanings and every country has its own language of gestures.
Let's look at one of the American gestures, for example.
Tapping your temple with your forefinger or making a circular motion around your ear, usually while rolling your eyes towards someone and then pointing at them, means that you disapprove of that person's behavior or opinion as being abnormal.

Leaders who practice job-centered behavior closely supervise their employees in an effort to monitor and control their performance.
They are primarily concerned with getting a job done and less concerned with the feelings or attitudes of their employees.
In general, they don't encourage employees to express their opinions on how to accomplish a task best.

Writing on the Internet
- Don't type anything that you wouldn't say to someone's face.
- Remember that people judge you by your words as well as your actions, so do try to write well.
- Don't use information that someone else has already written, pretending it's yours.
- Good writing skills, as well as correct grammar and spelling, do matter.
- Don't do anything that you wouldn't do in real life.
- Express your opinions politely in chat rooms or on message boards.

Most people have great difficulties making their own decisions when they are not sure what to do.
They often let close friends and relatives influence them through opinions.
They even allow gossiping neighbors to express their thoughts for them.
If you are influenced by the opinions of others whenever you reach decisions, you will not succeed in anything you do.
Remember you have a brain and mind of your own.
You should use it and reach your own decisions.

- Keep your eyes on the ball.
- Hear only the things you should hear―be deaf to others.
- Don't lose your temper. A decision made in anger is never sound.
- Remember, respect for you is created by the decision on the field.
- No matter what your opinion of another one's judgement, never make an opposing comment on him.
- Don't point your finger and yell at a player.

I went to a large university well-known for its basketball team.
Most of the time when I’m asked where I went to school, people recite its basketball statistics rather than its academic excellence.
It is seldom that I hear someone say, “Oh, your university has an excellent library!”
Universities waste far too much money and attention on sports activities, often doing harm to academic programs.
In my opinion, however, only a small portion of students are on athletic teams, yet the majority of students use the university library.
Universities need to give more money to the library than to sports activities.
This would greatly benefit the university libraries with new books and new computer equipment.

In spite of the sensitive nature of the issue and various foreseeable problems,
it is still obvious that the nation needs to start debating on euthanasia.
The issue has seldom been discussed openly, but according to a recent opinion poll,
over 70 percent of the respondents approved of doctor-assisted suicide when it is considered necessary.
The Korean tradition of strong filial duties may be one factor that would make the debate more difficult.
The debate may also prove to be still more controversial when it involves those who are poor, elderly and incompetent.
Yet, it is also true that everyone has the right to a more peaceful and dignified death.
What is needed is an efficient system to prevent abuse.

Despite working mostly on Chinese language films,
An Lee was hired to direct a film adapted by Emma Thomson from Austen's classic novel, Sense and Sensibility.
Most critics were surprised at the choice.
And Lee himself found the first days of filming very difficult.
While he was used to making all the decisions and having them carried out promptly,
he found that the British film-making style allowed everyone to have an opinion.
However, the film was an immediate success and critics found many differences between it and Lee's earlier films.

I think the greatest satisfaction one gets is derived from the opinion that people have about you―people who have been around you your whole life―as to your character and your compassion and your fairness, and the way you deal with people, and the way you do your job and whether you have tried to sacrifice other people for your personal benefit.

In a good many cases unnecessary timidity makes the trouble worse than
it need be. Public opinion is always more tyrannical towards those who
obviously fear it than towards those who feel indifferent to it.
A dog will bark more loudly and bite more readily when people are afraid
of him than when they treat him with contempt, and the human herd has
something of this same characteristic. If you show that you are afraid
of them, you give promise of good hunting, whereas if you show
indifference, they begin to doubt their own power and therefore tend to
let you alone.

He remarked that he would be absent the next day.

*prevalent 널리 퍼진; 지배적인 common, seen or done everywhere:

*notion 생각; 견해 idea; opinion:

He has a notion that I'm cheating him.

*remark 말하다 say especially something that one has just noticed; give as an opinion:
He remarked (to me) that it was a masterpiece.

Because man is a social being he cares for the judgment of his fellows.
He is gratified by praise and hurt by blame. To possess a good reputation
with family, neighbors, friends, to avoid social condemnation is
undoubtedly a motive for good conduct.
Pliny stated the case with substantial truth, though perhaps with some
exaggeration, when he said, "How few there are who preserve the same
delicacy of conduct in secret as when exposed to the view of the world!"
The truth is, the generality of mankind stand in awe of public opinion,
while conscience is feared only by the few. A saying of the Arabs puts
the point with cynical brevity: "In a town where you know no one do
whatever you like."

If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that
you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as
you do. If someone maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland
is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so
little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own
contrary conviction. So whenever you find yourself getting angry about
a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find,
on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants.

*reserve 자제; 침묵 self-control in speech and behavior; keeping silent or saying little; not showing one's feelings:

In any matter of which the public has imperfect knowledge, public opinion
is as likely to be erroneous as is the opinion of an individual equally
uninformed.
To hold otherwise is to hold that wisdom can be got by combining many
ignorances.
A man who knows nothing of algebra cannot be assisted in the solution of
an algebraic problem by calling in a neighbor who knows no more than
himself, and the solution approved by the unanimous vote of a million
such men would count for nothing against that of a competent mathematician.

*uninformed 무식한 showing lack of knowledge or enough information:

With the fact that the majority of genetic diseases are intractable to drug therapies or gene therapies, there is a great difference of opinion as to whether steps should be taken to prevent the birth of genetically impaired children.
Many are opposed for religious reasons to trying to control the genetic destinies of children.
Others, recalling Germany's eugenic practices, have an equally strong abhorrence of genetic-based reproductive decisions.
But, it is unfair that some families' lives are dominated by the horrors of genetic disease.
Terminating the existence of a genetically disabled fetus is incomparably more compassionate than allowing an infant to come into the world tragically impaired.
There is, then, the question of who should have the authority to make the decisions of this kind.

In order to consider all the perspectives of an issue, we must be open to the viewpoints of other people, and be willing to listen and exchange ideas with them.
This process is called a discussion, or dialogue.
That is the only way you can be sure your own position is supported and strong.
Listening to other' points of view should always make us re-examine our own; we may not change our minds, but we will have a more valuable opinion because it has been examined.
