It is to be noted that working in the deep-sea fishing industry has
been unpopular since the 1980s due to the relative low wages and hard
work conditions. In this situation, the government has already allowed
fishing firms to hire foreign workers in numbers up to one-half of their
ships' crew. But domestic companies are hiring up to 80 percent of their
crewmen overseas and could be employing men of dubious

e.g.
1) 120 : one hundred (and) twenty
2) 359 : three hundred (and) fifty nine
3) 2,898 : two thousand, eight hundred (and) ninety-eight
4) 1,506 : one thousand, five hundred and six
5) 1,700 : one thousand, seven hundred
6) 47,309 : forty-seven thousand, three hundred and nine
7) 559,921 :
five hundred fifty-nine thousand, nine hundred twenty-one
8) 5,779,075 :
five million,seven hundred seventy-nine thousand,seventy-five
3) twenty-eight, ninety-
1) zero[oh]-three,one-two-three,four-five-six-seven
2) // , // ,forty-five sixty-seven
3) // ,one twenty-three,forty-five sixty-seven
-----------------------------------------------------------------
e.g. > 0.2 : (zero) point two
> 0.05 : (zero) point zero five
> 1.7 : one point seven
> 25.9 : twenty-five point nine
> thirty-five point nine dollars
> // dollars and nine cents
> // ,nine
e.g. ⅓ : one third ⅔ : two thirds
3/5: three fifths
e.g. > 7층 : the seventh floor
> 4번째 : the fourth time
> 오른쪽에서 6번째 : (the) sixth from the right
> 제 2과 : the second lesson
July (the) fourth/(the) fourth of July

If you want to get to the top of the highest mountain in the world, you have to climb as high as a plane flies.

On Valentine's Day, Tom asked me to have dinner with him.
He insisted that my two daughters, aged 9 and 11, be at home when he picked me up.
When arriving, he asked us to sit on the couch.

One contained a diamond engagement ring.
Each of the other two contained a heart-shaped ring with a tiny diamond in the center.
He proposed to all three of us and, needless to say, I didn't have a chance.

Patience is one of the virtues that everyone should have.
In our society everything moves fast.
On TV shows, major problems are often resolved in half an hour.
And with millions of people using e-mail, life is moving more and more at “Internet Speed.”
As a result, many people lack this, and they want to have instant satisfaction.
In this fast moving society, this is very important to all of us.

Despite its studied frivolity, the novel is concerned with a very interesting
subject. It is true that one may read half the book, with pleasure and some
impatience, before this becomes clear, but on page 158 precisely, the author drops
her enigmatic allusions for long enough to tell us, plainly, that she is writing about
money.

A farmer kept a prize cow in a pasture through which a railroad track ran.
Each day at the same time, a freight train passed by at great speed.
One day after the train had gone, the farmer discovered his cow was missing.
He promptly sued the railroad.
The railroad hired a young lawyer, and just before the case came to trial,
the attorney bargained with the farmer, getting him to settle for half of
what he had demanded. Proud of his achievement, the lawyer boasted as he
handed over the settlement check to the farmer: "You really had me worried.
I didn't have any witnesses. The engineer was asleep, and so was the
brakeman. You could have won the whole amount."
"Well, young fella," the farmer said as he pocketed the check, "you had me
worried, too. You see, that darned cow came home this morning."

One evening my husband's golfing buddy drove his secretary home after she
had imbibed a little too much at an office reception. Although this was
an innocent gesture, he decided not to mention it to his wife, who tended

Later that night my husband's friend and his wife were driving to a
restaurant. Suddenly he looked down and spotted a high-heel shoe half
hidden under the passenger seat. Not wanting to be conspicuous, he waited
until his wife was looking out her window before he scooped up the shoe
and tossed it out of the car. With a sigh of relief, he pulled into the
restaurant parking lot. That's when he noticed his wife squirming around
in her seat. "Honey," she asked, "have you seen my other shoe?"

Imagine two basketball teams, each composed of half of five pairs of
identical twins. But one team has the institution of authority and the
other does not.
The one with authority simply has the custom that if one of the members
wears a red arm band, the others will obey his instructions; not because
he is stronger, or smarter, or older, or a better player, just because
he wears the arm band. The other team has no way of selecting a leader.
Clearly the first team will have a much greater chance of beating the
second team.

Each SMSA would contain at least (a) one central city with 50,000

constituting, for general economic and social purposes, a single
community with a combined population of at least 50,000, the smaller of
which must have a population of at least 15,000. Such an area included
the county in which the central city is located, and adjacent counties
that are found to be metropolitan in character and economically and
socially integrated with the county of the central city. By 1970, about
two-thirds of the population of the United States was living in these
urbanized areas, and of that figure more than half were living outside
the central cities.

After the Civil War(1861-1865), as ice was used to refrigerate freight
cars, it also came into household use. Even before 1880, half the ice
sold in New York, Philadelphia, and Baltimore, and one-third of that
sold in Boston and Chicago, went to families for their own use. This had
become possible because a new household convenience, the icebox, a
precursor of the modern refrigerator, had been invented.

The fact that half of the known species are thought to inhabit the

The Second World War mobilized the Germans in more than one sense. Not
only did the majority of the male population swarm out as far as the
North Cape and the Caucasus, not to mention nearly the whole Jewish
population who were forced into emigration and death, but Germany also
abducted as many as ten million laborers, a third of them women, from
all over Europe, so that thirty per cent of all jobs, and in the
armaments industry more than half, were done by foreigners. After the
war, there were millions of displaced persons; only very few remained in
Germany. Compared to these catastrophic movements all contemporary
turbulences appear harmless.

For perspective on this issue, meet Phil Greer, one of the name partners
in the San Francisco-New York venture firm of Weiss, Peck & Greer.
(Phil
Greer)
A generation ago, in the early 1970s, Greer was one of the early
investors in a struggling young company called Federal Express, then run
by a 20-something entrepreneur, Frederick W. Smith, who had the brash
idea of delivering mail and packages overnight.
Smith had already burned through two substantial rounds of funding in
building his fleet of airplanes. Though the business indicators looked
good, Federal Express's coffers were empty. And it was a day when people
clung to the quaint idea that a company had to show a profit to go
public.
Smith embarked on what became a desperation mission. He gave up half his
company for $4 million, a sum that seems trivial today. Greer, who had
invested in both earlier rounds, stayed with Federal Express for what
became a very lucrative investment for the VC firm. ``I was traveling to
the board meetings fairly often, and I could see things turning
around,'' he says now.
Here's the kicker: Greer still holds some of the original stock from
that round, known as a ``down round'' in VC parlance. ``I hold stock a
long time,'' he explained the other day at a Weiss, Peck & Greer
partners meeting at the Robert Mondavi Winery in Napa Valley.

Pastor:In preaching,when you have the congregation's interest,you've
already won half the battle.
Pastor:Really? Thank you.
Pastor:Please tell me how to attract the congregation's attention.
Pastor:Not so difficult,I guess. Let the congregation sit close to t

Pastor:Right. That's the point, but how could I make them sit in the
front?
Pastor:Easy. Place only one heater near the lectern.

median (정중의) any value that divides the probability of a random variable in half, i.e.
the probability of observing a value above the median and the probability of observing a
value below the median are both less than or equal to one half. For a finite population
or sample, the median is the middle value of an odd number of values (arranged in
ascending order) or any value between the two middle values of an even number of
values; in the latter case it is conventional to use the average of the two middle values.
