◆ chance, opportunity, occasion
opportunity 는 어떤 일을 함에 있어서 모든 상황이 흡족한 것을 나타내는 단어입니다.
~ 할 것이 허락된 기회라는 수동적인 어감이 있습니다.
This is a country of great opportunities.
(이 나라에서는 출세의 기회가 많다.)

그에 반해 chance 는 성공이 예상되는 그러나 자기에게 상황이 유리하면

The Norwegian Nobel Committee said Kim was chosen as the
Nobel Prize awardee for his ``work for democracy and human rights
in South Korea and in East Asia in general, and for peace and
reconciliation with North Korea in particular.''
노르웨이 노벨상 위원회는 13일 김 대통령이 북한과의 한반도 평화와
화해를 이뤄내고 한국과 아시아의 민주주의와 인권 상황을 개선한

Kim was first nominated for the prize in 1987 by lawmakers in
the United States and Germany and foreign professors who
sympathized with his democracy struggle.
Since then, he has been nominated every year - a total of 14 occasions.

외국 교수들이 처음으로 평화상 후보로 추천한 뒤 지금까지 계속해서
모두 14차례나 후보에 올랐었다.
The 2000 award ceremony will be held in Oslo on Dec. 10.
But Kim will actually receive his prize in Stockholm, Sweden,
with the awardees of literature, medicine, physics, chemistry and economics.
김 대통령에 대한 노벨 평화상 수상식은 오는 12월10일 노르웨이 오슬로에서 열리며,
문학·의학·물리·화학·경제 등 나머지 노벨상 수상자들과 함께
스웨덴 스톡홀름에서 상을 받게 된다.
The award comprises a gold medal, a diploma and a check for 9 million
Swedish crowns (1 billion won) and Kim must give a lecture
on his achievement within the next six months.
김 대통령은 이번 수상으로 금메달·상장과 함께 900만 크로네(10억원) 가량의
상금을 받게 되며 앞으로 6개월 이내에 수상 업적에 대해 강연해야 한다.
Among the developing nations, S&P and Fitch, another international
credit ratings firm, downgraded Argentina’s sovereign ratings on
three different occasions as it was on the verge of a national bankruptcy.
Argentina also received a ratings downgrade from Moody’s, as well.
And on Nov. 6, S&P lowered Argentina’s long-term credit rating to
selective default (SD). Indonesia also received a downgrade due to
the default risks on $850 million it must redeem by next year.
