It's a great relief to know that the report is not due until Tuesday!

Not until a year and half ago

Do not cross the bridge until you come to it.

It is not until we lose health that we realize the value of it.

Not until old age, but until death we learn.

Do not cross the bridge until you come to it.

Not until old age, but until death we learn.

Do not hallo until you are out of the woods.

A lower price will not be possible until production volumes

We, for our part, will not rest until you are completely satisfied.

The game is not known until the fat lady sings.

It is not until we lose health that we realize the value of it.

We are concerned to learn from your letter of March 11 that the goods sent under your order number 960 did not reach you until February 29.

Not until Kentucky's Mammoth Cave had been completely explored
in 1972 was its full extent realized.

Although The Star-Spangled Banner was written by Francis Scott Key during the
War of 1812, it was not adopted as the national anthem until 1931.
The Star-Spangled Banner가 Francis Scott Key에 의해 1812년 전쟁 중에 쓰여지긴

It was at dusk the following day.
→ 비좁은 (탁자사이로) 들어오다: shove through~; push one's way through~
(He insisted on going back.)
→ 눈살을 찌푸리다: frown; knit one's brow
(ANS) It was at dusk the following day-it happened to be a particularly cold day, and Mr. Koh had remained in the tea-room until late, when Kwanshik showed up again. He was carrying a bundle wrapped in an old brown blanket. He approached Mr. Koh, shoving through the narrow space between the coffee tables dragging the bundle, while everyone in the tea-room watched him with wide-open eyes. A waitress tried to stop him, but he pretended not to notice her. Mr. Koh rose from his seat, frowning.

It was not until the early 1960s…
Korea saw the situation of the teaching of English at schools in some order.
→ 어학실을 설치하다: install a language laboratory
→ the audio-lingual method를 주창하다: advocate the audio-lingual method
(ANS) It was not until the early 1960s that Korea saw the situation of the teaching of English at school in some order. It was then that college teachers began to be sent abroad to study the teaching of English, language laboratories were set up one after another in high schools and colleges, the audio-lingual method was advocated, and language research institutes were set up in many universities.

It is not until …that ~로
(ANS 1) It is often not until you lose something that you understand it is the most essential thing to you.
(ANS 2) People often don't readied what is most important to them until they lose it.

→ 「말이 통하지 않는다는 것」은 not to be able to make oneself understood,「불편한」-inconvenient,「외국여행을 하다」는 go on a foreign tour,「 ~한 것은 외국여행을 해 보고서 알았다」가 강조되므로 역시 It was not until I went on a foreign tour that ~로 한다.
(ANS) It was not until I went on a foreign tour that I knew it was inconvenient not to be able to make myself understood.

[比較] range, reach, scope, compass, gamut
There was no human being within my range of vision./ He did not fire until they were within range of his rifle.
beyond the reach of my understanding/ Anything like sustained reasoning was beyond his reach.(꾸준히 이치를 따진다는 따위의 일은 무엇이나 그의 힘에는 부친 일이었다.)
The subject does not lie within the scope of this book.
a type of education that gives a child scope for development of all his powers.
notes of an insect that lie above the compass of the human ear/ He did all within the compass of his power.
Only prose can give the full gamut of modern feeling.

[比較] till, until
A son's a son till he takes a wife처럼 할 수도 있다.
Until he went to college, he never had thought of his speech./ He had never thought of his speech till(or until) he went to college.
Wait till the rain has stopped라고도 할 수 있다. He waited till the rain stopped 또는 He waited till the rain had stopped라고 할 수 있다. till(또는 until)은 He did not learn of it till the next day(다음 날에 가서야 그 일을 알았다)에서처럼 부정적 구문에 쓰이기도 한다. 이 구문에서 계속되는 것은 부정의 상태 즉, he did not learn이다. It was not long till we realized(오래지 않아 우리는 깨달았다) 같은 글은 이렇게 설명할 수 없다. 여기서 주절 it was not long은 계속하는 것으로 생각되는 문장을 만들지 못한다. She can't go till she finishes her work와 Until injustice is ended, peace will never be realized 같은 글에서는 till, until의 용법은 표준적이지만 다음과 같은 구문에서 till, until의 사용은 가끔 나타나는 수는 있어도 격식 차리는 글에서는 before, when을 쓰는 것이 좋다.
It was not long before he noticed the change.(이윽고 그 변화가 그의 눈에 띄었다.)/ She had scarcely arrived when it began to storm.

Chances are SLIM.
☞ Chances are fat.
▶ The operaisn't over till the fat lady sings.
- something is not finished until one particular part has taken place

A : This lecture is really boring.
B : No, not yet. Let's stick around until they serve food after the lecture.

A ball game is not over until it is over 사람 팔자 시간 문제다.
A ball game is not over until it is over란 말이 생겼을
The opera's never over till the fat lady sings란

In fact, President Kim met with his two rivals shortly after the April

Some of the most famous classical composers died quite young.
Among these, for example, were Schubert and Mozart, who both died in their thirties.
But not all composers have had short lives.
Bach lived until age 65 and Haydn until age 69.
Still others, like Verdi and Richard Strauss, lived on into their eighties.

Many people went outside around August 27 this year to observe the close encounter between Earth and Mars.
On August 27, when Mars was closer to Earth than ever in human history,
the one-way travel time of light was just 3 minutes and 6 seconds.
Thus, if you had turned a light toward Mars that day, it would have reached Mars in 186 seconds.
Mars was so bright that even the lights of the city didn't get in the way.
If you missed this astronomical show, you're really out of luck.
Mars will not be this close again until the year 2287.

Not being able to fall asleep after going to bed at night or waking up too early in the morning is usually called insomnia.
In teenagers, insomnia is so frequent that it is almost "normal."
For some reason, teens fall asleep later than they did as children.
For example, if a child was used to going to bed at 8 p.m., a teen probably is not ready for sleep until 11 p.m.
No wonder so many teenagers complain of not being able to fall asleep and then feeling tired at school the next morning.

Genes are tiny units of heredity located within every living thing.
In 1953, scientists discovered the structure of DNA, the acid that contains genes in a pattern.
However, scientists were not able to isolate and change individual genes, a process called genetic engineering, until the 1970s.
The first genetically engineered product to be approved by the Food and Drug Administration(FDA) was insulin.
People with diabetes use insulin to help their bodies process sugars normally.

I wonder how many people give up just when success is almost within reach.
They endure day after day, and just when they're about to make it, decide they can't take any more.
The difference between success and failure is not that great.
Successful people have simply learned the value of staying in the game until it is won.
Those who never make it are the ones who quit too soon.
When things are darkest, successful people refuse to give up because they know they're almost there.
Things often seem at their worst just before they get better.
The mountain is steepest at the summit, but that's no reason to turn back.

The general was determined not to allow the enemy's forces a return voyage, but to send them to the bottom of the sea.
Standing high on his flagship, he engaged his entire fleet in a battle with several hundred enemy ships.
Just as the battle was about to be won, the general was wounded by a stray enemy bullet.
He ordered his aides, “Do not announce my death until the battle is over! Do not weep! Go and beat the drum.
Finish the enemy to the last one!”

Frogs are not generally considered as good parents.
The female frog usually lays her eggs and then goes away and the baby frogs grow up on their own.
However, one kind of frog is different.
This frog, either male or female, will stay with the eggs until the baby frogs are born.
Then the parent will carry the babies on its back to a special kind of plant.
It puts one baby frog in each of these watery flowers.

In the sciences, Leonardo was equally amazing.
He had discovered complex principles of physics nearly a century before Galileo did his work.
In the study of the structure of human bodies, Leonardo studied muscle and bone structure to improve his painting,
and even after he had been tired of painting, he continued to study the workings of the heart.
He had even thought of the circulation of blood a century before William Harvey proved it.
Leonardo da Vinci was so far ahead of his time that his genius did not become truly clear until this century.
Leonardo da Vinci

One step at a time, I move closer to the window until I am just below it.
Then, standing on an old box, I pull myself up the window and see the elephant's eye only a foot away.
Long, straight eyelashes partially cover his eye as he looks toward the ground searching for fruit.
Then, as he picks up one with his long trunk and puts it into his mouth, he lifts his eyes and looks directly at me.
He shows neither surprise nor concern, and I stare into the gray of an elephant's eye forever.
This kind of thing may happen in other areas of Africa, but not in the Luangwa Valley of Zambia.

Language never stands still.
Every language, until it ceases to be spoken at all, is in a state of continual change.
The English which we speak and write is not the same English that was spoken and written by our grandfathers.
Nor was their English precisely like that of Queen Elizabeth‘s time.
The farther back we go, the less familiar we find ourselves with the speech of our ancestors.
So finally we reach a kind of English that is quite strange to us, as if it were a foreign tongue.

Reporter : Would you tell me about your childhood including school life?
Carry : I enjoyed making people laugh as a child.
My teacher made a deal with me that if I was good and did my work in the class she would give me five minutes at the end to perform.
I would finish my work fast and spend the rest of the class preparing my act.
Reporter : How did you make your debut?
Carry : I went to a comedy club at the age of sixteen.
I prepared my routine, and practiced it over and over until I was sure I had it perfect.
I was not successful on my first stage, though.
The owner of the comedy club was backstage shouting things like “It's too boring.”

Lead poisoning is a serious problem in our daily lives.
Especially, young children are at the greatest risk of lead poisoning because their bodies are still developing.
Lead poisoning can cause learning disabilities and hearing loss.
It can also cause behavioral problems, at very high levels coma and even death.
Some of those problems may not show up until later in life.

Maimonides, the great Jewish philosopher who lived in the 12th century, was as current as the 1990s when he described the eight levels of charity.
As you read these words, ask yourself how many people measure up to these lofty standards.
Going from the lowest level of charity to the highest, here are the eight levels:
1. He who gives unwillingly.
2. He who gives cheerfully, but not enough.
3. He who gives enough, but not until he is asked.
4. He who gives before being asked, but gives directly to the poor man.
5. The poor man knows from whom he takes, but the giver does not know who is receiving.
6. The giver knows to whom he gives, but the receiver does not know the giver.
7. The giver does not know to whom he gives, nor does the poor man know from whom he receives.
8. The highest form of charity is to strengthen the hand of the poor man by giving him a loan, joining him in partnership, or training him out of his poverty, to help him establish himself.

If you haven't done so already, I, as one of your friends, would like to give you some food for thought:
First, being single isn't so bad.
You can be married and still be plenty lonely, especially when your partner is not there for you.
I hope you will not let the fear of singlehood drive you to make the biggest mistake of your life.
Second, love can be killed.
It can be chipped away, piece by piece, until there is nothing left.
This process can go unnoticed until everything falls apart.
The easiest way to destroy love is to keep taking it and give nothing in return.

Between historical events and the historian there is a constant interplay.
The historian tries to impose on these events some kind of rational pattern: how they happened and even why they happened.
No historian starts with a blank mind as a jury is supposed to do.
He does not go to documents with a childlike innocence of mind and wait patiently until they dictate conclusions to him.
Quite the contrary.

The water problem is as close to you as the glass on your dinner table,
but too often people do not get alarmed until the taps run dry.

One of the major embarrassments to which lecturers are submitted is the
audience's looking at their watches. I once asked John Erskine if he found the
ordeal particularly trying.
"No," he replied, "not until they start shaking them!"

Women did not have the right to vote until 1920, but woman suffrage did not,
as many men predicted, merely double the total number of votes cast
on each side of a question, with the women voting the same as their husbands.
Instead, women began to study the issues and candidates and make up
their own minds.

In his innocence, man held his own special planet to be the center of the starry
universe until Copernicus, 431 years ago, dared to challenge this dogma. The earth
moves around the sun, he said, not vice versa. It was a profound and troubling idea.
Yet it was still far from the whole truth, for it kept the sun at the center of things.
And that misconception persisted in the minds of most until the coming of
photography and the large telescopes of the 20th century.

When I worked for a trio of attorneys, we shared a kitchen with several
other professionals in the building. Unfortunately, any food placed in
the refrigerator soon disappeared.
One Friday a turkey was delivered for an attorney who was not expected
back until the following week. Not taking any chances, I attached a
warning note to the bird.
When I opened the refrigerator on Monday, the turkey was still there
along with my message: "Do Not Touch―Evidence in a Murder Trial!"

Several neighbors had gathered for dinner, and the conversation turned to
pets. Our hostess commented that she had the dumbest dog ever.
"Any dog that digs up the same rosebush 20 times has to be pretty dumb,"
she said. Everyone seemed to agree, until the 75-year-old grandmother
of the neighborhood remarked, "I'm not too surprised at the dog, but
I am a little concerned about the person who planted the rosebush that
many times."

Annette, my wife, had bought a membership for me in an exclusive health
club. I thought that maybe she, too, would like to join, so I asked her,
"Do you want to come with me to the club tonight to see if you would
enjoy it?"
"Are you kidding?" she replied. "Not until I lose ten pounds!"

One evening my husband's golfing buddy drove his secretary home after she
had imbibed a little too much at an office reception. Although this was
an innocent gesture, he decided not to mention it to his wife, who tended
to get jealous easily.
Later that night my husband's friend and his wife were driving to a
restaurant. Suddenly he looked down and spotted a high-heel shoe half
hidden under the passenger seat. Not wanting to be conspicuous, he waited
until his wife was looking out her window before he scooped up the shoe
and tossed it out of the car. With a sigh of relief, he pulled into the
restaurant parking lot. That's when he noticed his wife squirming around
in her seat. "Honey," she asked, "have you seen my other shoe?"

I was enjoying the second week of a two-week vacation the same way I had
enjoyed the first week: by doing as little as possible. I ignored my
wife's not-so-subtle hints about completing certain jobs around the
house, but I didn't realize how much this bothered her until the clothes
dryer refused to work and the iron shorted.
The final straw came when she plugged in the vacuum cleaner and nothing
happened.
She looked so stricken that I had to offer some consolation.
"That's okay, honey," I said. "You still have me."
She looked up at me with tears in her eyes. "Yes," she cried, "but you
don't work, either!"

We often hear that high achievers are hard-working people who bring work
home and labor over it until bedtime. When Garfield interviewed top
people in major industries, however, he found that they knew how to relax
and could leave their work at the office. They also spent a healthy
amount of time with their family and friends. Successful people are
willing to work hard, but within strict limits. For them, work is not
everything. Will you work hard all the time?

Recently, I was in a restaurant when a woman and a young boy sat down
at the neighboring table. I happened to hear their conversation, The
woman asked: "So, how have you been?". And the boy, no more than seven
or eight years old, replied, "Frankly, I've been a little depressed
lately." This remained in my mind because it strengthened my belief that
children were changing. As I remember, my friend and I didn't realize we
were "depressed" until high school. The proof of a change in children has
been increasing steadily. Children don't seem childlike anymore. Children
speak, dress, and behave more like adults than in the past. Little girls
wearing earrings and designer dresses are not uncommon. Boys wearing
hairs styles like movie stars aren't rare anymore. These changes are not
without reason. In the past, children learned the secrets of adulthood
very slowly. Today, however, TV, computers, and the media are pushing
children into adult roles. Indeed, the amount of information available to
children is quickening the beginning of adulthood.

If you keep a daily journal, you will find yourself writing down thoughts
that you carry with you all day. These thoughts include not just
conscious one. They also include subconscious thoughts that you were not
even aware you were thinking until you sat down to write. Pretty soon,
you will have collected a lot revealing facts about yourself. These will
help you focus on your problems, and ultimately solve them.

I didn't start playing volleyball until I was fifteen, and sometimes the
other girls made fun of me because my skills weren't like theirs. I tried
not to let their harsh words break me. I practiced and practiced, trying
to catch up with the other girls. Poor, I couldn't buy good shoes or
clothes for volleyball, and sometimes felt sad. But hard work and
determination helped me make it on a professional volleyball team.

As you know. I have lived in this apartment for the last ten years
and the lease has been renewed three times. The rent has risen each time,
but always until now, by a reasonable amount. One hundred percent,
though, is an absolute scandal, and I am not prepared to pay such a large
increase. It is wrong to ask the tenants to pay a large increase when
nothing has been done to improve the condition of the apartments. In
tact, the front entrance is a disgrace. I am sure it is hardly ever
cleaned.

Love until the end of time
P.Domingo & M. McGovern
I love you with a heart
That knows no one but you
A love I never thought I'd find
A love that comes but once and
Never comes again
A love until the end of time
-
I'd give you all the love I have in me to give
If I could only make you mine
I love you with a love I've never known before
A love until the end of time
-
I can't believe that you're not unreal
You're everything I wanted you to be
I always knew someday that I would find
A love like ours until the end of time
-
I love you with a heart that knows no other love
A love I can't believe it mine
Now that I've find you I will never let you go
From now until the end of time
-
I can't believe that you were not unreal
You're everything I wanted you to be
I always know someday that I would find
A love until the end of time

There are "bad" genes as well as "good" ones.

The debate about when people first came to the Americas has raged amongst members of the anthropology and archaeology communities since 1977.
The discovery and inspection of the Monte Verde site, in Chile, has finally caused a major revision of the previously accepted time for human arrival in the Americas, which had been thought to be 13,500 years ago.
In fact, because of the fundamental nature of this shift in evolutionary thinking, acceptance of the findings from Monte Verde came about slowly;

indeed, it was not until 1997 that the archaeological community finally endorsed the extensive evidence, with a paper about the site finally being published in the journal Science.

The experiment was described in a paper presented to the Paris Academy
in 1894. Two sequences of twenty photographs each, one from the side and
one from behind, show a white cat in the act of righting itself. Grainy
and quaint though they are, the photos show that the cat was dropped
upside down, with no initial spin, and still landed on its feet. Careful
analysis of the photos reveals the secret ; As the cat rotates the front
of its body clockwise, the rear and tail twist counterclockwise, so that
the total spin remains zero, in perfect accord with Newton's laws.
Halfway down, the cat pulls in its legs before reversing its twist and
then extends them again, with the desired end result. The explanation
was that while no body can acquire spin without torque, a flexible one
can readily change its orientation, or phase. Cats know this
instinctively, but scientists could not be sure how it happened until
they increased the speed of their perceptions a thousandfold.

One crucial development in this movement toward industrialization was
the growth of the railroads. The railway network expanded rapidly until
the railroad map of the United States looked like a spider's web, with
the steel filaments connecting all important sources of raw materials,
their places of manufacture, and their centers of distribution. The
railroads contributed to the industrial growth not only by connecting
these major centers, but also by themselves consuming enormous amounts
of fuel, iron, and coal.

Although researchers have taken samples of deep-ocean rocks and
sediments for over a century, the first detailed global investigation of
the ocean bottom did not actually start until 1968, with the beginning
of the National Science Foundation's Deep Sea Drilling Project (DSDP).
Using techniques first developed for the offshore oil and gas industry,
the DSDP's drill ship, the Glomar Challenger, was able to maintain a
steady position on the ocean's surface and drill in very deep waters,
extracting samples of sediments and rock from the ocean floor.

The commonsense notion that the best icebox was one that prevented the
ice from melting was of course mistaken, for it was the melting of the
ice that performed the cooling. Nevertheless, early efforts to economize
ice included wrapping the ice in blankets, which kept the ice from doing
its job. Not until near the end of the nineteenth century did inventors
achieve the delicate balance of insulation and circulation needed for an
efficient icebox.

Because payments of the principle and interest must be made on time
whether or not the company has been earning a profit, bonds are
considered a safe investment over a long period of time. Stocks, on the
other hand, carry more risk as they are influenced by the conditions of
the economy, but often pay a higher rate of interest. Stockholders
provide the money invested in a business and have a say in making
business decisions and a share of the profits. However, they must also
take part in the losses and cannot receive any dividends until the money
owed to the bondholders has been paid off.
