2) ~의 돌아오는 길에: on one's way (back) from ~

Such a great writer as Shakespeare was not aware of the usage of the word "know-how". It is quite natural since it has been coined by the Americans even if the word is now in vogue all over the world. Therefore the key of making America what it is now can be found in the trend of changing "why to do" into "how to do". Napoleon was that a fool to the question "why do you wage a war?" But he was an imperishable genius able to win so many by making standardization of the grooves of the screws which had been used in jointing and disjointing the cannons.

British novels; English novels
2) 200페이지 정도의: with about 200 pages

1) 깊이 감동해서: with reverence; with a deep sense of gratitude
2) 인식하다: accept; face
→ 「둘도 없는」은 말 그대로는 irreplaceable이지만, most precious; more valuable than any thing else처럼 번역하는 것이 좋을 것이다.

→ Traffic accidents would be fewer. Traffic accidents would not be so many.
→ A reduction in the number of taxis would mean fewer car crashes.
ANS) If there weren't so many taxis, there would be fewer traffic accidents.

→ 어떻게 부르면 좋을지 망설이다: have a hard time deciding what to call the occasion
→ …라고 부르는 것도 알맞지 않다: nor is it properly called~
Chusok deeply rooted in the culture of Korea; Chusok with a special importance; have a remarkable significance
(ANS) Because there are so many levels of meaning to Chusok, foreigners often have a hard time deciding what to call the occasion. It is not the same as Thanksgiving celebrations, though it includes the thanks for the harvest and the family gathering and eating. Nor is Chusok properly called an autumn moon festival, for the more important meaning to Koreans is to be found in the veneration of the family ancestors. Probably the most important thing about Chusok today is its very Koreanness. At a time when the people of this country are deeply concerned to discover and affirm their true national identity, events with a long history in the culture of Korea a special importance.

→ 외국의 풍속이나 습관: foreign manners and customs
→ ~을 잘 알고 있다: have a good knowledge of~
→ 이상할 게 없다: be natural; be no wonder; not surprising 등

(ANS 2) Mr. Kim has been abroad many times, and so it is no wonder that he should be well versed in the manners and customs of foreign countries.

→ 잘하고(못하고)있다: be good(poor) at; be strong(weak) in; (사물을 주어로 해서) be in(out of) one's line
→ 내 경험에서 말한다면: in my experience; so far as I know from my experience

→ 그렇게 하는 것이 적당하다고 생각한다: think it proper [or fit] to do so
→ 틀림없다: reliable; trustworthy
(ANS) If he thinks right to do so, I have not the least objection to it. He is a trustworthy person, indeed.

Why don't you+동사 원형~? (=Why not+ 동사 원형~?) Into the (mountain)으로 하지 말 것.
→ 어떤 특정한 산이 화제로 되어 있으면 the mountain으로 해도 상관없다. ex) We slept overnight up on the mountain.
(ANS) We're going up into the mountains, so why don't you come with us?

Everything in this room is so topsy-turvy.
* topsy-turvy : not organized, messy.

I hear that he is not very rich.(so rich

She has a loose tongue , so you had better not tell her about this.

deposit [동] 예금하다 (to place money in a bank or safe)
[명] 입금, 계약금, 선금 (a part payment of money, which
is made so the seller will not sell the gods to anyone else)

Q: Will you be making a deposit today?
A: No, but I'd like to cash this check.

I`m afraid not.과 I`m not afraid의 차이.
- I`m afraid not은 I`m afraid so의 반대말로
I`m not afraid

So-soSo-and-so
* so-sonot so good, not so bad의 준말이라 생각하여 '그저 그래'란
Don't take it seriously.
He's always been a nagging so-and-so.
Write your name, Mr.so-and-so, right here.

Grandet finally dies, still so obsessed by his love of gold
that when the priest enters bearing the viaticum Grandet
