Planning is important, but it is action that gets things done.
If you just plan to lose weight, or just plan to start a business, it never happens.
The way to make things happen is to take action.
Find something you can do right now, today, and that will bring you closer to your goal.
Don't put it off until the time is right.
No matter how unimportant your action may seem, it makes you start in the right direction.
Continue taking action every day and you start to gain momentum.

Roger now tours the country, speaking to groups about what it takes to be a winner, no matter who you are.
“The only difference between you and me is that you can see my handicap, but I can't see yours.
We all have them.
When people ask me how I've been able to overcome my physical handicaps, I tell them that I haven't overcome anything.
I've simply learned what I can't do ― such as play the piano or eat with chopsticks ― but more importantly, I've learned what I can do.
Then I do what I can with all my heart and soul.”

Every human being will grow older and die.
Aging in itself is not a disease or a sickness, but as people age, disease often follows and the elderly need others' help.
In addition, the percentage of senior citizens in the world has increased very quickly, and our society is no exception.
The problem for us is that we have left the care of the elderly to their families.
We must change our attitude toward this issue and develop more systematic social programs.
The sooner we realize the importance of the role of government in this matter, the smaller the final cost to society as a whole will be.

It is our hope that any adult or teenager who picks up this book will find his or her “child heart” touched, and hopefully, reawakened.
We truly believe that within each and everyone of us, there is a piece of our heart and soul that we have hidden
― a piece of us that perhaps still believes that there is a Santa Claus, and that good will always prevail over evil.
On a very deep level we all want to be loved, accepted, encouraged and supported, no matter what our age.
From our hearts to your hearts, we presents this book.
May kids reign forever!

Conversation can be on two levels―the content one and the feeling one.
For example, yesterday my friend Scott came over and told me what Ann had done to him.
I started to tell him why I thought Ann acted that way and Scott got angry and started fighting with me.
After he left, I realized that he didn't really want me to explain why Ann was that way,
but he wanted someone to understand his feelings because no matter why Ann did it, she really hurt him.
I probably should have said something like, “She really made you mad, didn't she?” and waited until the next day to talk about it.

Classes in literature are useful no matter what job you intend to have when you finish university.
Books are about life.
People who study literature learn the skills of reading carefully and understanding characters, situations, and relationships.
This kind of understanding can be useful to teachers and business people alike.
Literature classes also require a lot of writing, so they help students develop the skill of clear communication.
Of course, a professional writer needs to have this skill, but it is an equally important skill for an engineer.
Finally, reading literature helps develop an understanding of many different points of view.

The root of a word provides its essential, or main, meaning.
That root meaning never changes no matter what prefixes or suffixes you add.
Look, for example, at the two words farmer and farming.
What root supplies the essential meaning for both words?
The answer is farm.
Add the suffix er, and you refer to a person who farms.
Change that suffix to ing, and you are talking about the activity of farming.
You can change the prefixes and suffixes attached to a word, yet it will retain its original meaning.
Take away the root, and the meaning goes with it.

Prayer For Bad Times
Dear God: Help me be a good sport in this game of life.
I don't ask for an easy place in the lineup.
Put me anywhere you need me.
I only ask that I can give you 100 percent of everything I have.
If all the hard drives seem to come my way, I thank you for the compliment.
Help me remember that you never send a player more trouble than he can handle.
-
And, help me, Lord, to accept the bad breaks as part of the game.
May I always play on the square, no matter what the others do.
Help me study the Book so I'll know the rules.
-
Finally, God, if the natural turn of events goes against me and I'm benched for sickness or old age, help me to accept that as part of the game, too.
Keep me from whimpering that I was framed or that I got a raw deal.
And when I finish the final inning, I ask for no laurels.
All I want is to believe in my heart that I played as well as I could and that didn't let you down.

People never outgrow their need for love.
= No matter how old one may grow, one needs love.

As the American colonies in the seventeenth century prospered and
trade increased among them, an efficient way of hauling goods
overland was needed. The answer was the Conestoga wagon. It had a
boat-shaped body and was suited for mountain trails. No matter how
the wagon was tilted, the cargo stay in place. For feeding the
horses, there was a trough attached to the rear end. A Conestoga had
six or seven overhead bows, or arches, with the ones in the center
being a little lower than the ones on the end. These bows supported a
covering of white canvas that protected the good from the weather.
The wagon was capable of carrying up to eight tons, though for each
ton a horse had to be added to the team.

When some misfortune threatens, consider seriously and deliberately what
is the very worst that could possibly happen. Having looked this possible
misfortune in the face, give yourself reasons for thinking that after all
it would be no such very terrible disaster. Such reasons always exist,
since at the worst nothing that happens to oneself has any cosmic
importance. When you have looked for some time steadily at the worst
possibility and have said to yourself with real conviction, "Well, after
all, that would not matter so very much," you will find that your worry
diminishes to a quite extraordinary extent.

My friend's neighbor has to walk his dog, Cindy, no matter what the weather.
One evening there was a heavy downpour, but he dutifully grabbed his rain
gear, called Cindy and headed out. The hood of his slicker gave him tunnel
vision, but enabled him to face the storm. After grudgingly making a
four-block circuit for the dog's sake, he headed home, cold and wet―and
found Cindy patiently waiting for him in the garage.

I have frequently experienced myself the mood in which I felt that all
is vanity; I have emerged from it not by means of any philosophy, but
owing to some imperative necessity of action. If your child is ill, you
may be unhappy, but you will not feel that all is vanity; you will feel
that the restoring of the child to health is a matter to be attended to
regardless of the question whether there is ultimate value in human
life or not. A rich man may, and often does, feel that all is vanity,
but if he should happen to lose his money, he would feel that his next
meal was by no means vanity.

*concern 관심거리 a matter that is of interest or importance to someone:
How much money I earn is no concern of yours.

National characteristics are not easy to pin down, and when pinned down,
they often turn out to be trivialities or seem to have no connection
with another.
Spaniards are cruel to animals, Italians can do nothing without making
a deafening noise, the Chinese are addicted to gambling.
Obviously such things don't matter in themselves.
Nevertheless, nothing is causeless, and even the fact that Englishmen
have bad teeth can tell one something about the realities of English life.

In any matter of which the public has imperfect knowledge, public opinion
is as likely to be erroneous as is the opinion of an individual equally
uninformed.
To hold otherwise is to hold that wisdom can be got by combining many
ignorances.
A man who knows nothing of algebra cannot be assisted in the solution of
an algebraic problem by calling in a neighbor who knows no more than
himself, and the solution approved by the unanimous vote of a million
such men would count for nothing against that of a competent mathematician.

full and I was standing near the door. As people got on, they stepped on

Do we really have the best university program? Perhaps. But every
educator would add or subtract a few subjects. And no matter what list of
courses would be offered, it would not be approved by all students. Not
only do the professors have their own ideas on the matter, but the
students have theirs, too. "I don't believe that only the colleges have
the right to define what an educated person is," protested a student when
his university revised its programs.

We do not choose to be born. We do not choose our parents. We do not,
most of us, choose to die. But we do choose how we shall live. We decide
what is important or trivial in life. We decide what we must do and must
not. No matter how indifferent the universe may be to our choices and
decisions, these choices and decisions are ours to make. As we decide and
choose, so are our lives formed.

MSF was begun by a small group of French doctors including B. Kouchner
back in 1971. Over the years, many doctors from around the world joined
the organization. The group quickly became known for its work in helping
the hungry and ill. They firmly believe that all those who need a
doctor's help, no matter where they are, have a right to get medical
care. They sometimes risk their lives to provide such care. The
organization won the 1999 Nobel Peace Prize for its work on several
continents since its foundation.

No matter how many electronic wonders we invent, we will need to read.
Books may change form ; they may become plastic disks or video displays.
But the art of reading will be more essential than ever. We cannot afford
to lose the kind of sharp, clear thinking that reading requires. As one
educator has said, 'No matter how far we advance our technology, we'll
still need to know how to think and read.

The young should learn that no one can win all the time and that it's
possible to enjoy a game even when they don't win. A child who doesn't

should be allowed to experience disappointment.

Making rope required room because rope had to be made in a straight
line. Because of space limits, ropemaking was done outdoors at first.
Soon it became necessary to produce rope no matter what the weather was
like. Special buildings were constructed to allow ropemakers to work all
year round. Often these buildings were more than 300 meters long. They
were called ropewalks because workers had to slowly walk the length of
the building backward during the ropemaking operation.

To pass the civil service examinations in ancient China was no easy
matter. Preparation took years, since candidates were required to know
thousands of logographs merely to read the classics. Furthermore, they
had to memorize whole texts. On the examinations, they wrote essays about
particular questions on particular texts. These essays were then
evaluated according to the criteria of purity, truthfulness, elegance,
and propriety. These criteria, however, so vague that candidates had
little choice but to detect the literary preferences of the examiner.

< Heartbreaker > Dionne Warwick
I got to say it and it's hard for me
You got me crying like I thought I would never be
Love is believing but you let me down
How can I love you when you ain't around
And I get to the mornin' and then you never call
Love should be everything or not at all
And if don't matter whatever you do
I made a life out of loving you
Only to find everything that I follow is dying
I'm crying in the rain
after this searching my world
For a love everlasting
Feeling no pain
When will we meet again

That's why - Michael Learns To Rock
I won't forget the way you're kissing
The feelings so strong were lasting for so long
But I'm not the man your heart is missing
That's why you go away I know
You were never satisfied no matter how I tried
Now you wanna say goodbye to me
Love is one big illusion I should try to forget
But there is something left in my head

Needless to say, the bone of contention over euthanasia is whether people have the right to decide the matter of others' life and death, amid fears that the law could be wide open to abuse.
The new Dutch law insists patients must be adults, have made a voluntary, well-considered and lasting request to die, must be facing a future of unbearable suffering and must have no reasonable alternative.

All the possible supervisory measures should be taken to eliminate concerns about the abuse by doctors.

However, when the universe was less than one minute old, no helium could
have existed. Calculations indicate that before this time temperatures
were too high and particles of matter were moving around much too
rapidly. It was only after the one- minute point that helium could
exist. By this time, the universe had cooled so sufficiently that
neutrons and protons could stick together. But the nuclear reactions
that led to the formations of helium went on for only relatively short
time. By the time the universe was a few minutes old, helium production
had effectively ceased.

This is esspecially true of detergents, and the phosphates encourage the growht

The net result is that the water of eutrophied lakes becomes
distasteful and unhealthy. Eutrophied lakes can no longer support fish, and they
become useless for recreation. The most famous example is Lake Erie, which is
said to have aged ten thousand years in the past few decades.

Art, for novelist Edith Wharton, was primarily a matter of selection; the
novelist's task was that of disengaging "crucial moments from the welter of
existence" and making them vivid and meaningful. She rejected both the "slice of
life" theory and the "stream of consciousness" technique which, in her eyes, was
merely a newfangled form of the former with Freudian trimmings. She knew that
there was no trivial subjects per se, and she believed that it was precisely
when dealind with apparent trivialities that the writer had the need of the
greatest aptitude.
