naif 〔na:´i:f〕 =NAIVE

You're so naive.

Nancy was so naive that she believed his lies.

Although he was young, his remarks indicated that he was disingenuous.

In Star Wars, dark, evil Darth Vader is a perfect foil for fair-haired, naive
Luke Skywalker

ingenuous 순진한 (naive. young. unsophisticated)
These remarks indicate that you are ingenuous and unaware of life's harsher
realities.

Only someone utterly naive about international affairs would shocked to learn that every nation tries to keep its potential enemies under constant surveillance.

In the Solomon Islands in the south pacific, some villagers practice a unique form of logging.
If a tree is too large to cut down with an ax, the natives cut it down by yelling at it.
Woodsmen with special powers creep up on a tree just at dawn and suddenly scream at it at the top of their lungs.
They continue this for thirty days.
The tree dies and falls over.
The theory is that the shouting kills the spirit of the tree.
According to the villagers, it always works.
Ah, those poor naive innocents.
Such strangely charming habits of the jungle.
Screaming at trees, indeed.
How primitive.
Too bad they don't have the advantages of modern technology and the scientific mind.

If Ronald Reagan thinks that "staring down" the Russians is going to make
the United States the predominant world power again, he is in for a big
disappointment. The belief that the Soviet Union is responsible for the loss of
American prestige is naive and oversimplified, typical of a good guy bad guy
mentality. It is especially dangerous considering the possibility that Reagan
may soon sling one of the biggest pistols ever known: the overkill capacity of
the U.S. nuclear arsenal.

Carter rightly calls Reagan naive for thinking the Soviets can be intimidated into
accepting deep cuts in their existing arsenal by the threat of a future U.S. buildup.

We are less credulous than we were. In the nineteenth century, a novelist
would bring his story to a conclusion by presenting his readers with a
series of coincidences―most of them wildly improbable.
Readers happily accepted the fact that an obscure maid-servant was really
the hero's mother. A long-lost brother, who was presumed dead, was really
alive all the time and wickedly plotting to bring about the hero's downfall.
And so on. Modern readers would find such naive solutions totally
unacceptable. Yet, in real life, circumstances do sometimes conspire to
bring about coincidences which anyone but a nineteenth century novelist
would find incredible.

naive, ingenuous, artless, unsophisticated
=. She's so naive she believes everything she reads.
=. He has a very naive attitude toward politics.
2) ingenuous : naive
ex) =. His expression was frank, ingenuous, and engaging.
=. His apology was so obviously sincere and ingenuous that his opponent was disconcerted.
=. The artless hostess who stumbled over every introduction.
=. Jonathan was innocent and artless.
=. They were so unsophisticated that they didn't know what a subway was.
=. It is easy to write because the readers are relatively unsophisticated.
