Liquid and powdered milk and other milk products will be
disposed if they contain more than the permissible levels of
antibiotic substances, the Ministry of Health and Welfare
announced yesterday.
보건복지부는 잔류기준 이상의 항생물질이 함유된 우유와 분유,여타
유가공품은 폐기하기로 했다고 3일 발표했다.
A set of new regulations on antibiotic residue in milk are due
to take effect today for the first time in the nation in an
effort to supply consumers with good, wholesome and clean milk
and milk products, the ministry said.
보건복지부는 품질좋고 건강에도 유익하며 청결한 우유 및 유가공품
을 소비자들에게 공급하기 위해 유제품에 대한 항생물질 잔류 기준을
새로 마련 ,4일부터 국내 최초로 시행한다고 밝혔다.
The permissible levels of penicillin G and oxytetracycline are
set at 0.004 parts per million (ppm) and 0.1 ppm, respectively.
Permissible levels of seven other antibiotic substances such as
sulfurdimetoxin and sulfurdiasin are up to 0.01 ppm, the ministry
said.
새로 마련된 잔류기준은 항생물질인 페니실린 G와 옥시테트라싸이
클린의 경우 각각 0.004PPM과 0.1PPM 이하이며 설파디메톡신과 설파디
아진 등 7개합성항균물질은 각각 0.01PPM이하이다.
Antibiotic residue is likely to be found in milk from cows which
eat cattle food contaminated by a variety of antibiotic
substances, a ministry official said. Accumulated residue in the
human body could have a negative effect on resistance against
diseases, he noted.
여러 항생물질이 섞인 사료를 먹은 젖소의 우유에 항생물질이 잔류
할 가능성이 있다고 복지부 관계자는 말했다. 그 관계자는 이들 물질

The ministry will order organizations responsible for overseeing
food and drug safety to conduct a broad range of tests to measure

In addition, he said, the ministry came up with a measure

other germs from 40,000 per milliliter to 20,000.

English will be taught to primary school children in third grade
and higher starting next year and their new curriculum will
include two English classes a week, the Ministry of Education
said yesterday.

Chae Sung-ho of the Research Institute for National Unification
said that the prime minister, not one ministry, should manage
overall policy on North Korean defectors because he has the power
for coordination among government agencies involved.

한 전반적 정책을 관리해야만 한다. 왜냐하면 관련부처간 조정력을 가

Securing funds for the program is one of the major problems for
the ministry.

At least five of an estimated seven fleeing North Korean
infiltrators may be wearing South Korean Army uniforms and have
armed themselves with M-16 rifles, a Defense Ministry official
said yesterday.

총으로 무장하고 있는 것으로 추정된다고 밝혔다.
The Defense Ministry told journalists what Lee has confessed to
investigators. As for their mission, Lee has told investigators
that they came to collect information on the Kangnung air base

Work to build an intracity canal passing through the western tip

A Russian resident found Choi Duck-keun, 54, consul at the South

A record drop in imports helped South Korea reap a 1.6
billion dollar trade surplus in January, boosting hopes for
an early end to its financial crisis, trade officials said
Monday. Customs-cleared exports were up 1.4 percent
year-on-year at 9.16 billion dollars in January, the trade
ministry said. Imports fell a record 39.6 percent
year-on-year to 7.56 billion dollars.

신경 써서 외워 두시면 되는 것들입니다.
이와 같이 현황 설명에 추가로 붙게 되는 것은 다음에서와 같이
이것이 첫번째냐 두번째냐와 같은 기록 경신에 대한 사항입니다.
예문을 보시기 바랍니다.

여기서 중요한 것은 the third consecutive month 로서
우리말에서 몇 개월 연속 또는 몇 년 연속 등과 같이 말을 할 때
해당되는 표현입니다. 주의를 드리고 싶은 부분은 첫째 정관사
the가 쓰이고 있다는 점과 두번째 서수인 second, third, fourth
등이 나오고 있으며 뒤에 나오는 month 또는 year는 반드시
단수(singular)라는 점입니다. 이와 같이 따로 주의를 주지
않으면 나중에 영작을 할 때 분명히 a third consecutive month
또는 the third consecutive months와 같은 실수를 범하게
됩니다. 반드시 정관사+서수+단수의 형태로 등장한다는 것을 다시
한 번 기억해 두시기 바랍니다.
이와 같이 기록에 대한 설명이 끝나게 되면 나타나는 것은 바로
왜? 무엇 때문에 그와 같은 기록이 나오게 되었는가에 대한
분석과 더불어 향후 전망에 대한 내용입니다. 예컨대 Exports
were led by semiconductors, petrochemicals, machinery and
automobiles (수출을 주도한 것은 반도체, 유화, 기계 및 자동차
부문이었다) 정도의 문장이 뒤를 잇게 됩니다. 따라서 이
부분에서는 각 산업의 부문 즉, 반도체, 유화, 기계, 자동차와
더불어 조선(ship building) 철강 (steel), 섬유 (textile)과
같은 것들을 다시 한번 점검해 두시면 되겠습니다.
마지막으로 나타나는 부분은 향후에 대한 전망입니다. 한 가지
예문을 들어 보면
(예문) Exports will grow steadily in the coming months,
despite underlying concern over Asia's currency problems, it

(해석) 수출은 아시아의 통화 위기에 대한 기본적인 우려에도
불구하고 향후 수 개월간 지속적으로 성장할 것으로 보인다.
여기서는 grow steadily, in the coming months를 비롯하여
upturn (하강하다가 상승), downturn (상승하다가 하강),
maintain current growth rate (현재 성장률 유지) 등과 같은
식의 상황이 있을 수 있습니다. 이와 같은 추세 변화에 대한
설명은 몇 차례 말씀 드린 바 있어 생략하도록 하겠습니다.
아무튼 다른 표현도 많겠지만 오늘 소개한 부분만이라도 확실하게
알아 두고 계시면 많은 도움이 될 수 있으리라고 생각합니다.
교육부 관계자는 "금리 추가 인하로 혜택을 보는 대출자는 약 130만명으로 집계된다"면서 "올해는 174억원, 내년에는 218억원의 이자 부담을 줄이는 효과가 있을 것"이라고 말했다.
