(1) 컴퓨터시스템에 침투하는 것. 이 용어는 80년대 중반 해커들이 보안체계에
몰래 들어가는 것만을 목적으로 하는 사람들과 자신들을 구별하기 위해 만들어낸
용어이다. 크래커는 보안체계 침투만 목적으로 하는 반면 해커들은 컴퓨터시스템
에 대한 지식을 얻거나 재미있는 장난을 치는데 자신들의 지식을 이용하는데 더
관심이 있다. 해커들은 아직도 자신들이 크래커와 구별된다고 주장하지만 언론에서는
구별에 실패했고 따라서 해크와 크랙은 흔히 구분없이 쓰이는 말이 됐다.
