◆ speak, talk, converse, discourse, say, state, remark
위의 단어들을 우리말로 풀이하면 모두 "말하다"가 되지만 약간씩 다른 상황에서 다르게 사용되고 있습니다.
(1) speak : 사회적 활동으로서 [말하다] (일반적인 말).
(2) talk : 흔히 스스럼없는 일상회화를 말함 (계속해서 say 함을 암시하며 speak보다 구어적인 말).
(3) converse : 생각, 지식 따위를 교환하려고 둘 또는 그 이상의 사람이 대화하다(격식을 차리는 말).
(4) discourse : 상세하고 넓은 범위의 이야기를 하다(다소 격식을 차리는 말).
(5) say : 자기 생각을 말로 표현하다; (tell이 말의 취지를 전하는데 반하여) 말을 그대로 전하다(일반적인 말).
(6) state : 이유를 들어 상세히 말하다(say에 대한 문어적인 말).
(7) remark : 생각한 대로 간단하고 적절하게 말하다[논평하다].

◆ declare 와 announce 의 차이
declare 는 상대방의 반대를 무릅쓰고, 혹은 개의치 않고 하는 자기주장을 말합니다.
They declared a state of emergency.
그들은 비상사태를 선포했다.
The accused was declared guilty.
피고는 유죄를 선고 받았다
They declared themselves bankrupt.
그들은 파산을 선언했다.
