Taipei is a lively and expensive city.
About 6 million people live in and around the capital of Taiwan and it is full of liveliness.
Apartments are almost impossible to buy in Taipei and the government encourages enterprisers to locate their companies in other parts of the country.
Taipei may not be a relaxing place but the food is excellent,
the people are friendly, and there are some wonderful things to see, like the Grand Hotel.

I entered the old, red brick house.
As I walked through the creaky oak door, the light barely crept through the dirty old windowpanes.
Slowly, I moved into the once-lively living room.
While I reached for the light switch, the soft wisp of a spider’s web brushed against my hand.
The smell and taste of dust were thick in the air.
The gray, crushed velvet furniture was covered with thick, clear, plastic sheets.
The white walls and ceiling were now a dull, dingy gray, and there were little balls of dust about the floor.
Hearing nothing except my own heartbeat, I felt the emptiness crash out loud and hard.

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and the hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the Milky Way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.
* o'er vales : over valleys
* sprightly : lively

To converse well, either with another person or with a crowd, it is vitally necessary to feel relaxed and comfortably at ease.
Many intelligent people have thought themselves slow and dull because they could not produce witty remarks in rapid succession as their companions seemed able to do.
This is often because of a pang of embarrassment or self-consciousness, which is akin to stage fright.
Feeling a little uncomfortable and ill at ease in the presence of others, one finds his mind won't work right.
It simply refuses to come up with the bright remark or the lively comeback that would have found so beautiful a place in the conversation.

minds, never realized the possibilities of either microscope or telescope.

If you will ask some one who has at some time acted in a manner for which
he would be punished if it became known, you will find that when discovery
seemed imminent, the person in question repented of his crime. I do not
say that this would apply to the professional thief who expects a certain
amount of prison as a trade risk, but it applies to what may be called
the respectable offender, such as the bank manager who has embezzled in
a moment of stress, or the clergyman who has been tempted by passion into
some sexual irregularity. Such men can forget their crime when there seems
little chance of detection, but when they are found out or in grave danger
of being so, they wish they had been more virtuous, and this wish may give
them a lively sense of the enormity of their sin.

*animated 활발한 full of spirit and excitement; lively:
활발한 논쟁 an animated argument

*spirit 정신력 a quality of lively determination or brave effort:

finished the race.

The concept of a period room as a display technique has developed
gradually over the years in an effort to present works of art in a
context that would show them to grater effect and would give them more
meaning for the viewer. Comparable to the habitat group in a natural
history museum, the period room represents the decorative arts in a
lively and interesting manner and provides an opportunity to assemble
objects related by style, date, or place of manufacture.

Accustomed though we are to speaking of the films made before 1927 as
"silent," the film has never been, in the full sense of the word,
silent. From the very beginning, music was regarded as an indispensable
accompaniment ; when the Lumiere films were shown at the first public
film exhibition in the Unites States in February 1896, they were
accompanied by piano improvisations on popular tunes. At first, the
music played bore no special relationship to the films ; an
accompaniment of any kind was sufficient. Within a very short time,
however, the incongruity of playing lively music to a solemn film became
apparent, and film pianists began to take some care in matching their
pieces to the mood of the film.

To help meet this difficulty, film distributing companies started the
practice of publishing suggestions for musical accompaniments. In 1909,
for example, the Edison Company began issuing with their films such
indications of mood as "pleasant," "sad," "lively." The suggestions
became more explicit, and so emerged the musical cue sheet containing
indications of mood, the titles of suitable pieces of music, and precise
directions to show where one piece led into the next.

Learning a new language calls for no great originality of mind or
critical faculty, but it demands an eager intellectual curiosity and
a constant and lively interest in the endless ways in which human
ideas may be expressed.
