He is a good speaker but a better listener.

According to most psychological studies, body language expresses
a speaker's emotions and attitudes, and it also tends to affect
the emotions and attitudes of the listener.

Listening to people is part of communication. A good
listener hears what someone else says. It is important to be
a good speaker. It is also important to be a good listener.

I'm probably a better listener than a talker.

demagogue (person who appeals to people's prejudice; false leader.)
He was accused of being a demagogue becausehe made premises that aroused futile
hopes in his listeners.

His fulsome praise of the dictator annoyed his listeners

irony 풍자; 반어법 (hidden sarcasm or satire; use of words that convey a
meaning opposite to the literal meaning)
Gradually his listeners began to realize that the excessive praise he was
lavishing was merely irony; he was actually denouncing his opponent.

The lurid stories he told shocked his listeners.

Her listeners were amazed that such a thorough presentation could be made in an impromptu speech.

He admonished his listeners to change their wicked ways.

Her listeners were amazed that such a thorough presentation could be made in an impromptu speech.; Since he did not have time to prepare a talk, his comments were completely impromptu.

As well as talking with our voices we can also talk with our bodies.
This may seem surprising at first.
But if you watch two people having a conversation you will see that it is true.
People often move their hands to emphasize what they are saying and to show the person listening to them that they are saying something important.
Listeners use gestures, too.
They may nod their heads to show that they have understood or shake them to indicate disagreement.

Hundreds of celebrities fail to make a favorable impression because they don't listen attentively.
They are so much concerned with what they are going to say next that they do not keep their ears open.
Very important people have said that they prefer good listeners to good talkers,
but the ability to listen seems rarer than almost any other good trait.
And not only important people strongly desire a good listener, but ordinary folks do, too.
As the Reader's Digest once said: “Many persons call a doctor when all they want is an audience.”
Reader's Digest

The news media take pride in purveying information to help people be active and involved in public matters,
but, ironically, the media contribute insidiously to passivity by lulling people into accepting news reports as the last word on a subject.
To attract and impress audiences, reporters use techniques to enhance their credibility, coming across as more authoritative than they really are and making their stories seem comprehensive and complete.
Slickness in presentation works against the journalistic ideal of promoting intelligent citizen involvement in the political and social process by seeming to be so complete that nothing more can be said.
The result is called the syndrome of well-informed futility.
Readers, listeners and viewers feel satisfied that they‘re fully informed, which becomes an end in itself.
This phenomenon works against democracy, which is predicated on citizen involvement, not apathy.

The ideal listener has been humorously described as a person who
applauds vigorously.

Speakers use changes in tone to signal that they are making an important point.
If a speaker suddenly changes from a normal tone to a critical tone or from an angry tone to a soothing tone, it is a signal to listeners to pay close attention to what follows.

All of us want to be heard.
Psychiatrists' offices are filled with people in need of a listener.
In most instances, communication gets blocked because there are no listeners―only talkers.

But don't despair.
For many, this change is slight, perhaps unnoticeable.
Others adapt to fading hearing by becoming, even unconsciously, better listeners, watching the speaker's face or sitting closer to a sound source.
But the most effective way is to protect any hearing that remains in the ear and in the brain.
Here's how.

First of all, people who are good at listening well are highly respected.
Truly great listeners are so rare that when you are around one, it makes you feel special.

Since effective listeners are loved by people, they can avoid many of the most common stressful aspects of life.

Good listeners are easy to be around, so you want to reach out and help them.

Therefore, when you become a better listener, there will probably be plenty of people who will offer you assistance.

People have a tendency to be loyal to good listeners because they feel acknowledged and respected.

Mrs. Hendler, I'm a good listener.
- You gotta give me the gun. - I can't.
I'm sorry.
No wait.
But you have arrested my husband.
- Wait! - Mrs. Hendler.
Nick, don't move.
Please,
부디…
I don't want to fire my gun any more than you do.
For five years you've been washing blood off your hands.
Let's put down the gun.
- You okay, Nick. - Yeah, yeah.

He surprised listeners by revealing that she has had his daughter receive such treatments from the age of 16.

Next, a listener asked Lee Yeon-hee, "Since when did you think you were pretty?" and caught the listeners' attention.
