Military authorities said yesterday it was still unknown what
the motivations of those North Koreans were. They said, however,
that they are convinced the submarine was on a mission to drop
off the infiltrators in South Korean waters. ``Lee said he
belonged to the intelligence bureau of the Ministry of People's

infiltrators to the South,'' a military official pointed out.

At least five of an estimated seven fleeing North Korean
infiltrators may be wearing South Korean Army uniforms and have
armed themselves with M-16 rifles, a Defense Ministry official
said yesterday.
국방부는 19일 달아난 7명의 간첩중 최소 5명은 아군 복장에 M-16소
총으로 무장하고 있는 것으로 추정된다고 밝혔다.
The official, quoting a captured North Korean agent, said the
Communist infiltrators who landed from a wrecked submarine on the
East Coast may number as many as 26.
