→ 면허증을 빼앗기다: have one's (driver's) license canceled; lose one's (driving) license
→「현장을 수색당하다」는 be (or get) caught (in the act of ) ~ ing; they catch him (in the act of ) ~ing이다.
(ANS 1) If he got caught in the act of doing so, any taxi driver would have his (driving) license canceled.
(ANS 2) Any taxi-driver would lose his license if they caught him doing a thing like that.

Hello. And thank you for taking my call.
I'd like to know also, if you're going to go back into the film business anytime in the distant future. Thank you.
Well, I have no plans at all for the future.
I mean, as I said to you earlier, that I'm only thinking about working here as governor, representing the people, and doing my job.
So no desire to do a film?
I have no desire to do a film. I'll tell you one thing, that I've had the greatest time during my acting career.
* go back into the film business 영화계로 복귀하다
* as I said earlier 앞서 말했듯이
* acting career 연기 경력

The process of culture shock is so predictable that its stages have been systematized.
The first is the honeymoon stage, familiar to those of us who love to travel, but never stay in one place long enough to find out what follows.
In the honeymoon stage, the new country and its people seem delightful.
It almost feels more comfortable than home.
Everything is so different and charming, the people are so nice and the customs are so interesting.
Then the bloom comes off the rose.
People start to look shallow, selfish, and stupid.
The different ways of doing things do not seem interesting any more―just boring.
You start to feel exhausted all the time.
Culture shock has set in.

The story of a drama is told by the characters.
The author communicates his ideas to the audience through the actors.
The actor does this through his actions and voice.
He must interpret the role to the audience, and in doing so he will put his unique personality on the character.
For this reason, the actor is the most important component in the drama.
Unless he speaks and moves in the manner in which the imaginary character whose part he is playing would do,
the story will not be clearly communicated to the audience.
The audience must depend solely on the actor since there can be no reasonable explanation by the author, as we find in a novel.
What the actor fails to transmit immediately is lost forever to the audience.

One 10-year-old boy decided to study judo despite the fact that he had lost his left arm in a terrible car accident.
The boy began lessons with an old judo master.
The boy was doing well, so he couldn't understand why, after three months of training, the master had taught him only one move.
Feeling a little bored, the boy said to his teacher, “Shouldn't I be learning more moves?”
The teacher replied, “This is the only move you'll ever have to know.” Not quite understanding, the boy kept training.

There is one thing which we do every time we read, whether we are aware of it or not: we come into contact with the personality of the writer.
We enlarge our acquaintance, and by so doing we enter farther into life, and however little we may meant to, we enlarge our own personality, at least if the writer whose book we are reading himself possesses a personality of any value at all.
Any book of which we say to ourselves when we have done with it, "That is a good book", we find to be so by virtue of the personality which we have been in contact with: we say so, possibly, because we find that our own self has been affected, even though only for a while.

"The minute you climb in, you start feeling excited.
There's nothing so exciting for me, not even a jet plane.
You get in and start up and off you go.
And then you've got to pay attention every minute.
There's always someone doing something crazy who's likely to end up under your wheels.
I sometimes think it's a miracle if I can get all the way there with no accidents.
You've always got to be thinking ahead.
There's a lot of people in this job who have stomach problems from the tension.
They lose their hearing too, because of the noise.

You've got to be tough on this job, you know."

Of course, in any society, there are bound to be some negative attributes.
Parents should point out the negative factors prevailing in any society to warn their children, for children are not always able to recognize something bad.
But in doing so, parents should be careful not to focus on the negatives too much, which can wipe out the positives.
Why not have the approach "the cup is half full," with less emphasis on the "the cup is half empty."

"We say that the universe is expanding."
"What makes it do that?"
"Most astronomers agree that the expanding universe can only have one explanation: Once upon a time, about 15 billion years ago, all substance in the universe was assembled in a relatively small area.
The substance was so dense that gravity made it terrifically hot.
Finally it got so hot and so tightly packed that it exploded.
We call this explosion the Big Bang."
"Just the thought of it makes me shudder."
"The Big Bang caused all the substance in the universe to be expelled in all directions, and as it gradually cooled, it formed stars and galaxies and moons and planets..."
"But I thought you said the universe was still expanding?"
"Yes I did, and it's expanding precisely because of this explosion billions of years ago.
The universe has no timeless geography.
The universe is a happening.
The universe is an explosion.
Galaxies continue to fly through the universe away from each other at colossal speeds."
"Will they go on doing that for ever?"
"That's one possibility.
But there is another.
You may recall that Alberto told Sophie about the two forces that cause the planets to remain in constant orbit round the sun?"
"Weren't they gravity and inertia?
"Right, and the same thing applies to the galaxies.
Because even though the universe continues to expand, the force of gravity is working the other way.
And one day, in a couple of billion years, gravity will perhaps cause the heavenly bodies to be packed together again as the force of the huge explosion begins to weaken.
Then we would get a reverse explosion, a so-called implosion.
But the distances are so great that it will happen like a movie that is run in slow motion.
You might compare it with what happens when you release the air from a balloon."
"Will all the galaxies be drawn together in a tight nucleus again?"
"Yes, you've got it.
But what will happen then?"
"There would be another Big Bang and the universe would start expanding again.
Because the same natural laws are in operation.
And so new stars and galaxies will form."

How pleasant it must be to be able to look back on one's life and to realize that one "was always busy doing good and trying to do good, and advising and helping those in trouble"!
I confess, when I scan my past, I have to search very thoroughly before I can discover even one day on which I was "busy doing good and trying to do good."
I can remember several occasions on which I meant to "do good," but something, whether business or pleasure, usually intervened, and I seldom went farther in the matter.
The truth is, I am so out of practice in this business of "doing good" that I should be hard put to it to tell you what "doing good" is.

Recently I bought a new car radio from a dealer who recommended it highly.
It proved no better than the one it replaced. I was about to charge into
his store and demand my money back, but it occurred to me to put myself
in his place. Doing this I saw how offended he'd be at having his judgment
questioned. So I took a different tact and appealed to his sense of
self-respect. He exchanged the radio for a much better one, without
charging me the difference in cost. As my grandmother used to say,
"You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar."

My grandmother and her sister were never at a loss for words, especially
when they got together. Once they were doing the dishes after a big
family dinner, chatting animatedly.
After drying what seemed like an overabundance of the platters, Aunt
Flossie remarked, "Gosh, Pearl, how many of these platters do you have?"
"Just one," Grandma said, "Why?"
They discovered they had been so wrapped up in their talk that every time
Aunt Flossie put the clean platter on the counter, Grandma picked it up
and washed it again.

Everybody in the world is seeking happiness―and there is one sure way
to find it. That is by controlling your thoughts. Happiness doesn't
depend on outer conditions. It depends on inner conditions.
It isn't what you have or what you are or where you are or what you are
doing that makes you happy or unhappy. It is what you think about it.
For example, two people may be in the same place, doing the same thing;
both may have about an equal amount of money and prestige―and yet one
may be miserable and the other happy. Why? Because of a different mental
attitude. I saw just as many happy faces among the Chinese coolies
sweating and toiling in the devastating heat of China for seven cents
a day as I see on Park Avenue.
"Nothing is good or bad," said Shakespeare, "but thinking makes it so."
Abe Lincoln once remarked, "Most folks are about as happy as they make
up their minds to be."

I was enjoying the second week of a two-week vacation the same way I had
enjoyed the first week: by doing as little as possible. I ignored my
wife's not-so-subtle hints about completing certain jobs around the
house, but I didn't realize how much this bothered her until the clothes
dryer refused to work and the iron shorted.
The final straw came when she plugged in the vacuum cleaner and nothing
happened.
She looked so stricken that I had to offer some consolation.
"That's okay, honey," I said. "You still have me."
She looked up at me with tears in her eyes. "Yes," she cried, "but you
don't work, either!"

Recently new building codes came into effect in our city. All new houses
must now be built with proper building materials so that heat will not
escape unnecessarily during the winter. The laws have had a definite
effect. There has been a fifty percent saving in the amount of natural
gas and electricity used. The city is doing other things to save energy.
Buses, partly supported by the city, transport many people throughout the
area. Many new bicycle paths were made, and today there are twice as many
bicycles as cars in the city.

Most scientists believe that by resting our bodies, we keep ourselves in
good physical condition. Any damage can be put right more quickly if
energy is not being used up doing other things. Injured animals certainly
spend more time asleep than usual while their wounds are healing. And
quite a few illnesses make us feel sleepy so that our body can get on
with curing us.

Tools and hand bones excavated from the Swartkrans cave complex in South
Africa suggest that a close relative of early humans known as
Australopithecus robustus may have made and used primitive tools long
before the species became extinct 1 million years ago. It may even have
made and used primitive tools long before humanity's direct ancestor,
Homo habilis, or "handy man," began doing so. Homo habilis and its
successor, Homo eretus, coexisted with Australopithecus robustus on
plains of South Africa for more than a million years.

City and country dwellers, of course, conducted this pursuit in
different ways. Farm dwellers in their isolation not only found it
harder to locate companions in play but also, thanks to the unending
demands and pressures of their work, felt it necessary to combine fun
with purpose. No other set of colonists took so seriously one expression
of the period, "Leasure is time for doing something useful."

There is a cat with almost as many names as its proverbial nine lives.
Depending on who is doing the talking, it is known as puma, cougar,
cata- mount, panther and mountain lion. And the zoologist may refer to
it as Felis concolor its official name in the Animal Kingdom, so to
avoid confusion, we will simply call it the mountain lion. The mountain
lion can grow up to seven feet
in length and can bring down prey as big as deer. It is the largest
member of the Felini branch of the cat family, so despite its size, it
is more closely related to the domestic cat than to the lions, tigers,
jaguars and leopards of the Pantherini branch of cats. Like the domestic
cat, the mountain lion does not have the Pantherini throat anatomy that
enables it to roar. Mountain lion is actually a misnomer because this
cat can live in almost any environment, and its range is from southern
British Columbia to the tip of South America.
British Columbia

The shallow temperate seas support the greatest concentrations of fish on our planet.
Huge shoals migrate from their overwintering grounds in the depths

It's these shoals that support most of the world's sea mammals.
Sea lions have all the agility and speed needed to collect what they want
and seemingly delight in doing so.

Oh my God, you guys, what am I doing? What am I doing? This is so un-me!
/ If you want, I'll do it.
I know, I just want to bite his bottom lip. But I won't.
God, the first time he smiled at me... those three seconds were more exciting than three weeks in Bermuda with Barry.

Guys? There's a somebody I'd like you to meet.
W-wait. What is that?
'That' would be Marcel. You wanna say hi?
No, no, I don't.
Oh, he is precious! Where did you get him?
My friend Bethel rescued him from some lab.
That is so cruel! Why? Why would a parent name their child Bethel?
Hey, that monkey's got a Ross on its ass!
Ross, is he gonna live with you, like, in your apartment?
Yeah. I mean, it's been kinda quiet since Carol left, so...
Why don't you just get a roommate?
Nah, I dunno... I think you reach a certain age, having a roommate is kinda pathe-
....sorry, that's, that's 'pathet', which is Sanskrit for 'really cool way to live'.
So you guys, I'm doing all new material tonight. I have twelve new songs about my mother's suicide, and one about a snowman.
Might wanna open with the snowman.

Hey, do you guys know what you're doing for New Year's?
Gee, what?! What is wrong with New Year's?
Nothing for you, you have Paolo. You don't have to face the horrible pressures of this holiday
desperate scramble to find anything with lips just so you can have someone to kiss when the ball drops!! Man, I'm talking loud!
Well, for your information, Paolo is gonna be in Rome this New Year, so I'll be just as pathetic as the rest of you.
Yeah, you wish!
It's just that I'm sick of being a victim of this Dick Clark holiday. I say this year, no dates, we make a pact. Just the six of us- dinner.
Yeah, okay. Alright.
/ Y'know, I was hoping for a little more enthusiasm.
Phoebe, you're on.
/ Oh, oh, good.

Nonono, thatthat's not what I was saying
Y'know, all these years, I thought you were on my side.
But maybe what you were doing was sucking up to Mom and Dad so they'd keep liking you better!
Hey, I married a lesbian to make you look good!
You're right!
I mean you're right! It wasn't just the Weebles, but it was the Weeble Play Palace, and and the Weebles' Cruise Ship.
Oh, which had this little lifeboat for the Weebles to wobble in.

Ok, so now we need, um sage branches and the sacramental wine.
All I have is, is oregano and a Fresca.
Um, that's ok!
좋아
All right. Now we need the semen of a righteous man.
Ok, Pheebs, you know what, if we had that,
we wouldn't be doing the ritual in the first place.
Can we just start throwing things in?
Ok, yeah, ok.
Oh, OK.

Sir, you have placed your faith in me thus far.
I would ask that you continue to do so.
Well, whatever you're doing, Frank,
isn't working, so I'm stepping in.
Gut the bill. Like Linda said.
No.
I'm sorry, Mr. President, but I will not do that.

Well, I just think what you did took so much bravery.
To go on air like that in front of the whole country and say what you did?
That means a lot to me.
And I admire what you both have been doing to advocate for the, well,
- for the victims.
- Women. Like you and me.
- Not victims.
- Men too. It's not gender-specific.

So what did he say?
He says he won't talk to anybody except you.
So, can I go in?
Yeah.
그래
Thank you.
My colleague said you only wanted to speak to me.
Well, here I am. And guess what?
- Right now, you're speaking to everyone.
- What the hell is he doing?
- I thought we were going to talk alone.
- You killed a cop.
What you need to do right now is start telling me the truth.
- It was self-defence. You were chasing me.
What's he saying?
Go to hell! I'm done talking. Get this guy outta my face!
- You've got nothing. I want my lawyer! - Settle down.
- I'll take him. - Come on.
I want my phone call. You've got nothing! I want my phone call, now!
- Jack. Great job.
- He knows something.
- So are you gonna beat it out of him?
What's the plan, Jack? Hm? What's the plan?
Take a walk.
나가

- How did you get past Secret Service?
- Good to see you too, Sherry.
Listen. David has a meeting and the polls open in an hour, so whatever you're doing...
- David asked me to come.
- Why, Carl?
I don't know.
I've gotta get ready, and so do you.

- What are you doing? - You're not the only one who has problems.
I just came off of a hellacious night shift,
I'm due in court in 45 minutes on a DUl charge, of which I'm guilty,
so, you know, good luck with your crisis, OK?
Don't!
Lauren, I have killed two people since midnight.
I have not slept for over 24 hours.
So maybe... maybe you should be a little more afraid of me than you are right now.
Sit.

Okay. Vicki Mercer and Carl Finn, I believe are in the bathroom.
Mile-high club?
If you ask me, it's their spouses that are the dummies.
Emily Behrle is in 3F.
Okay.

Preston Cash, 1A.
Tony Candlewell. Dead guy.
Right there 3C.
And, for now he's alive until he's dead.
So you want to tell us what we're doing here?

Well, we know he's suffering from the encephalitis.
He's probably sweating in fighting back a migraine.
I know what my guy's doing in my seat, Lou.
He's getting ticked off.
Yeah, but Candlewell's ticking off Nate in 2C even worse.
I mean this guy's perseverating.
Uncontrollably kicking the seat.
That's when I rise up and break the seat.
Right. So I get up, spin around, confront the guy.
Now Lou in 4B said he was the peacemaker.
Peacemaker my ass.

Hey, Nick,

I've been looking for you.
This girl you've been helping with the 416...?
She got in a fight with a Security Guard.
She a friend of yours?
You asking me what I think you're asking me?
Are you doing any thing that could compromise the unit?
I don't believe this. You've always been so cool.
I have to ask. It's part of the job.

Hey, it's me. You in the shower?
What are you doing?
Anyway if you check your messages
I don't have to be at work till later,
so I thought since you're between careers you might want to catch a late... breakfast.

Are you sure that's prudent, given the circumstances?
Doc, I am giving this girl a proper burial.
I don't much care about my career right now.
Someone wants to throw me in jail for that, so be it.
How you doing?
Just kinda I'm using this current experience to understand any other side of law enforcement.
That's resourceful.

Hey, when's the last time you took target practice?
Figures, I just had a manicure.
Okay, so we're doing this reconstruction
and the best way is to measure the distance between the victim and assailant
at[during] the time of the altercation.
we're using the same firearm and ammo
for these tests that McCall used in his backyard on Hastings.
Right.

Oh, I know exactly who you are, Mr. Pickens.
And if you so much as look at me in the wrong way,
I will personally lock you in a cell with someone
who's going to do the same thing to you that you've been doing to those little girls.

Next thing we know, we're in his van playing strip poker.
I can't believe we're doing this.
It was a blast at first.
Then, um ...
Then he said the creepiest thing.
So, I met this girl on the internet
who offered me a round-trip ticket
to fly out and help her end her life.
She wanted me to shove a tennis ball down her throat.

Freeze! / Hey.
Get out of there.
Get out of the closet.
- What are you doing? - I a reporter.
Look, we know the police are withholding information from us,
- so I came down here because ... - All right. Quiet. Quiet.
Are you out of your mind? I could've killed you.
This is a crime scene. You don't belong here.
Unless you want me to get the cop at the front door you'll get out of here now.
And I'd better not see any pictures of this apartment in your paper ...
or I'll have the D.A. on your front door.

If you need any help in your investigation, Mr. Grissom ...
Syd Goggle.
Mr. Goggle?
Gil Grissom.
Syd Goggle.
I thought you were too busy with the FBI to talk to me.
These investigations are always in flux.
Am I, uh, interrupting your laundry?
I'm just doing some gym towels.
You were so meticulous about so many things.
Shaving.
면도에
The gloves.
Planted evidence.
That's why I don't understand why you'd bring towels
that eventually could be traced.
I don't know what you're talking about.

Lying naked in her shrubs,
it occurred to Susan this could be the most humiliating moment of her life.
Susan?
She was wrong.
Uh, whatcha doing?
Locked myself out...
naked.
Oh.
아하
And then I fell.
So how are you?
Good, good.
I just got back.
I've been gone all day, and I got your messages about dinner,
and, um, I would love to come if that invite still stands.
It's a date.
All right. I, um...
assume the dress is casual.
Yeah. It's -- it's casual.

It was, um,
right before christmas, as a matter of fact.
We were all singing carols, and the dog was howling
because everybody in my family sings off-key except for me.
Anyway, it was just a terrible ruckus.
So, well, no one noticed when my mother went across the street to give the neighbors a gift.
And the next thing we heard were brakes screeching.
Wow.
세상에
Most of my family went to the hospital, but I stayed home because I was so young.
When I looked out the window,
I saw all of my mother's blood on the street,
and nobody was doing anything about it, so I got a hose,
and I washed it off,
and once it was clean, I felt so much better.
I never told anyone that story before.

You bought me enough things.
You're the one that's supposed to be shopping.
Oh, mama, you're in a rut.
We need to spice up your wardrobe.
Ooh, here.
Try this one on. Go on, try it on.
Mama Solis, how you doing in there?
Is it supposed to be so tight?
Yes, it's form-fitting. You're going to look great.
Gabrielle, I don't think this dress is right for me.
I can't breathe.
Well, maybe I made a mistake.

So in our version, the wolf is aggressive because he has a thorn in his paw,
and the woodsman will take out the thorn and send Mr. Wolf on his way.
I'm sorry. Aren't we doing "Little Red Riding Hood"?
Yes.

So then you are aware that the wolf is a bad guy.
He eats Little Red's grandma.
If you let him go, he's just going to chow down on other defenseless old ladies.

Every intern wants to perform their first surgery.
That's not your job.
Do you know what your job is? To make your resident happy.
Do I look happy? No. Why? Because my interns are whiny.
You know what will make me look happy?
Having a code team staffed, having the trauma pages answered,
having the weekend labs delivered, and having someone down in the pit, doing the sutures.
No one holds a scalpel till I'm so happy, I'm mary freakin' poppins.

You're really good at reading people, aren't you, telling them what they want to hear?
There's an unfortunate alignment of saturn in the house of jupiter right now.
Okay.
I know what you're doing.
