I have several problems to discuss with you.

→ 잘하고(못하고)있다: be good(poor) at; be strong(weak) in; (사물을 주어로 해서) be in(out of) one's line
→ 내 경험에서 말한다면: in my experience; so far as I know from my experience
It is not necessarily so; It is not always the case
I should rather say (that)
→ 관계가 깊다: be closely connected (what); have a close relationship (to)
(ANS) I liked both English and mathematics. Though they say (that) those who are good at foreign languages are poor at mathematics, and that the reverse is also true, it is not necessarily so in my experience. I would rather say (that) these two faculties are closely connected with each other.

[比較] therefore, hence, consequently, then, accordingly, so
All men are rational beings, Socrates is a man; therefore Socrates is a rational being./ He was the only candidate; therefore, he was elected.
consequently는 as a result, or sequence, or effect of the preceding(앞선 것의 결과로서)의 뜻이며, 흔히 추론을 도입하는 데에 쓰이기는 해도, 반드시 결론의 필연성을 의미하지는 않고, 오히려 결론에 대한 충분한 근거를 암시한다.
He said he would come; consequently I expect him.
He said he would come; consequently I am waiting for him./ He is the popular candidate; consequently he will be elected.
If A is true, then B is false.
He said he was hungry; accordingly they shared their meager lunch with him.
so는 because the preceding is true(앞선 것이 사실이기 때문에), this being the case(경우가 이러하므로)의 뜻이며 구어적인 말이다.

A senior official of the ruling New Korea Party said yesterday
that by giving up an appeal, Chun may wish to 1)enlist sympathy
from the public. ``His moves may have been 2)premeditated to draw
in minds sympathetic to his situation, which in turn could help
3)expedite a possible pardon from the government,'' the official
said. But he said he expects the disgraced former President to
appeal his case to a higher court eventually.

"How To Lose Weight Overnight"
-
1. Weigh yourself with clothes on, after dinner.
Do it again the next morning, before breakfast,
without clothes on. You'll lose 2 pounds.
-
2. Never weigh yourself with wet hair.
-
3. When weighing, remove everything, including
glasses. In this case, blurred vision is an asset.
-
4. Use cheap scales only, never use the medical
or digital kind.
-
5. Always go to the bathroom first.
-
6. Stand with arms raised, making pressure
on the scale lighter.
-
7. Weigh yourself after a haircut, this is good
for at least half a pound of hair.
-
8. Exhale with all your might BEFORE stepping
onto the scale (air has to weigh something, right?)

Sally Abel, a Palo Alto, Calif.-based trademark lawyer
specializing in Internet issues, thinks the dispute is
largely due to a case of everyone wanting too much,
too soon, and will likely move the registration system
toward a model that includes more specifically laid out rules.

The refusal of the two former presidents, Chun Doo-hwan and Roh
Tae-woo, to appear in court for their trials and their lawyers'
withdrawal from the courtroom in protest at what they asserted to
be the court's prejudging of the case are difficult to justify.

Admittedly, the handling of the cases by state-appointed attorneys is
not desirable in consideration of the gravity of the case. Yet, it seems
inevitable if the trial is to proceed according to the proper schedule
and the court is to be able to cope with the lawyers' delaying tactics.

In the case when 2 billion won worth of property is inherited, the tax
will drop to 130 million won from the current 280 million. Successors to
property worth 7 billion won or more will enjoy 980 million won tax
reductions. It is hardly convincing that all these tax reductions are
designed to help the``middle-income bracket.''

In view of its inconsistent policy, the Kim administration provided
Chun and Roh an excuse to counter the judiciary action, and their
representatives argued its motivation was political retaliation. Rightly
or not, the ex-presidents and their defense attorneys declined to
cooperate with the court, contending that the bench had presumed the
defendants guilty before hearing the case.

With the incident as momentum, the maritime authorities and fishing
industry are urged to improve the methods by which they employ
foreign crews, better their treatment and establish discipline among
seamen to prevent disputes aboard ships, racial or otherwise. Finally, no
stone must be left unturned in the effort to find out exactly what
happened in the bizarre case.
leave no stone unturned :

Mutiny on High Seas :
The frequent violent crime on Korean fishing boats on the high seas
is quite perplexing. Accordingly, we are deeply concerned by the most
recent case in which 11 seamen, seven of whom were Korean, were
killed aboard a tuna fishing vessel allegedly by six ethnic
Korean-Chinese, in a mutiny in the South Pacific.

Therefore, justice must be done in this case, in accordance with
domestic and international law. Korean Maritime Police authorities
boarded the ship which was taken to the open sea by the Japanese
Maritime Safety Agency and were towing it to Pusan yesterday.
Korean Maritime Police :
Japanese Maritime Safety Agency :

South Korea's exercise of jurisdiction over the case could involve
some complicated legal problems as the ship, Pesca Mar No. 15, is
registered in Honduras even though it is actually owned by a
Seoul-based firm, Daehyun Fisheries Co. However, the case should be
handled by the Korean authorities because the ship's real owners are
Korean and the victims of the revolt were mostly Korean.

As soon as some procedures required by international law are
complete, the murderers and the ship will be placed under Korean
authority and the case will be probed. But there remains a host of
problems that need to be settled in the Korean fisheries industry if
similar mishaps are to be prevented.

A young lawyer began working in our office.
Her first trial was coming up, and she worked diligently on her case.
Several other experienced lawyers occasionally dropped in to see how she was doing and to offer help.
The day before her trial, she mentioned that she wasn't getting much sleep lately with the upcoming trial on her mind.
One of the experienced lawyers overheard and stopped to offer his support.
“Relax,” he said.
“Your case is well prepared, and you know your stuff.”
The beginning lawyer turned to him and replied with a smile,
“I'm not worried about my case - I'm worried about what to wear.”

Like most of William Shakespeare's plays, “Romeo and Juliet” is based on earlier sources,
which in this case go back to some stories popular in Italy in the late 1400s.
These stories were transformed into a poem in English by a poet named Brooke.
Today Brooke's poem has been forgotten, but Shakespeare's play lives on.
What makes Shakespeare's play live is its dramatic power and its remarkable language.
That language, beautiful as it is, may seem strange to modern readers,
especially to young readers encountering the play for the first time.
William Shakespeare

As a consumer of goods and services, you will sometimes need to communicate with a manufacturer concerning the quality of what you have purchased.
Notes of praise take very little effort and can make a big difference to the receiver.
It is especially thoughtful in the case of direct service.
Waiters, gas station attendants, or flight attendants all deserve positive feedback.
Sending an acknowledgment to the management of the organization that provided the service is a means of communication that consumers can use more often.
These contacts can be made in writing or verbally.

During his years as mayor of New York City, Guardia sometimes presided as judge in a night court.
In one case, a man was found guilty of stealing a loaf of bread.
He claimed that he had committed that theft to feed his starving family.
“The law is the law,” La Guardia declared.
“I must therefore fine you $10.”
When the man sadly confessed that he had no money, the judge took $10 out of his wallet and paid the fine.
He also asked each person in the courtroom to contribute 50 cents to help the man.
There and then, they accepted his request.
Finally, the law-breaker was set free and even blessed with an undeserved gift.

The laws of order are the rules that control changes in meaning when order changes.
“The cat caught the mouse” means something obviously different from “The mouse caught the cat.”
Order is used differently in different languages and cultures.
While order is of major importance on the sentence level in English, this is not the case in some languages.
Order also has great importance in other parts of cultural systems besides language: order of birth, order of arrival, order in line to get a ticket.
Order applies to the courses of a meal.
Consider what it would like to start dinner with dessert.

The last time I went out for breakfast, I had to choose among ten types of pancakes, six varieties of juice, and four kinds of potatoes.
To my surprise, my wife and children love all this.
They love going into an ice cream shop and being able to choose among seventy-five flavors of ice cream and seventy-five flavors of topping to put on them.
For my part, I increasingly find that I miss simplicity.
Faced with a glass case filled with eighteen types of coffee, I just wish for a nice cup of tea.
I'm afraid I am the only person in the house who feels that way.

ected, owned, or exhibited in the traditional sense.
Often preferring concepts over materials, modern artists use materials in the broadest sense.
As a result, they have gone beyond the natural environment.
Their works use everything from neon lights and computers to the artists' own bodies, as artistic mediums.
Artists and art works can therefore become identical, as in the case of Body Art.
On the other hand, they can be distant from each other.
For example, an artist might phone workers in a museum, instructing them on how to make a work that he has not seen or touched himself.

The captain of a luxury liner was instructing a new crew member on part of his job.
“Your responsibility, sailor, in case of danger, is to yell ‘Man the lifeboats! Man the lifeboats!'”
The sailor practiced it and soon had it down perfectly.
A few hours later, the boat was hit by an iceberg and began sinking.
The sailor yelled, “Woman the lifeboats! Woman the lifeboats!” The captain was surprised.
“What's going on?” he demanded.
“Listen, captain,” the sailor replied, “you fill your boats the way you want, and I'll fill my boats the way I want!”

When two people have troubles with each other, they often look to the law to decide who is right and who is wrong.
Laws exist so that there are guidelines for behavior ― what is the right thing to do and what is not right.
Unfortunately, as lawyer Peter Smith says in his book, the two sides in a court case can never really win.
The ones who “win” are the lawyers.
Even when one person is the “winner” in a court case, that person must pay his or her lawyers, must pay court costs, and suffers from bad feelings
― particularly the hostility of the other person in the case.
So Peter Smith suggests another solution that can save you from wasting time and money.

While their attempt to protect young minds from being harmed is praiseworthy, it does seem a bit misguided in this case.
Yes, Rowling's books do contain supernatural creatures.
And, yes, there are such things as witchcraft and magic.
But such fantasy elements are part of long tradition of children's literature.
Rowling rightly belongs in the superb company of writers,
all of whom used supernatural elements to attract their youthful readers.

Nearly all runaways come from homes in which there are clear problems.
In any case, it is important for parents to be aware of the possibility that their child may run away,
and to be aware of the warning signs that often precede it.
One is a sudden change in behavior.
This change may be one of eating or sleeping habits.
Changes in social habits can also indicate problems, particularly when a teenager becomes withdrawn from friends and outside contacts.
If a young person begins to show sudden mood swings, going from very happy to very sad, for example,
there is a good chance that he or she is undergoing some sort of stress that is difficult to resolve.

The present United States stretches, east to west, from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean.

Later, with victory in American Revolution, the country's boundaries were extended as far as the Mississippi River.

This was the first step in the country's growth.
The second great step was the Louisiana Purchase.
By this purchase, the country was suddenly doubled in size.

American money is unlike the money used in many countries, since the bills, or paper money, are all the same color and size regardless of their amount.

In addition, as is often the case with all the paper money, new bills often stick together.

In case of a sudden military threat, NATO could not mount a credible deterrent

Birds are particularly sensitive to weather changes, and rooks especially so. When
they build their nests higher than usual in the trees, it has often been noticed that a
warm, fairly dry summer follows. The same applies when they fly high, and the opposite
is the case if they are seen flying low.

To a certain extent, doubt is good for the mind. People who doubt are not in danger
of being ruled by emotion. But a man who completely lacks any positive beliefs is often
a useless man, and a life without a belief in something positive is unbearable. Instead
of doubting everything, we should be ready to believe when there is sufficient evidence,
and we should try not judge a case while evidence is lacking. In other words, our mental
attitudes should be "critical" but not "negative".

One of the symptoms of approaching nervous breakdown is the belief that
one's work is terribly important and that to take a holiday would bring
all kinds of disaster. If I were a medical man, I would prescribe a
holiday to any patient who considered his work important. The nervous
breakdown which appears to be produced by the work is, in fact, in
every case that I have ever known of personally, produced by some
emotional trouble from which the patient attempts to escape by means
of his work. He is loath to give up his work because, if he does so,
he will no longer have anything to distract him from the thoughts of
his misfortune, whatever it may be.

A farmer kept a prize cow in a pasture through which a railroad track ran.
Each day at the same time, a freight train passed by at great speed.
One day after the train had gone, the farmer discovered his cow was missing.
He promptly sued the railroad.
The railroad hired a young lawyer, and just before the case came to trial,
the attorney bargained with the farmer, getting him to settle for half of
what he had demanded. Proud of his achievement, the lawyer boasted as he
handed over the settlement check to the farmer: "You really had me worried.
I didn't have any witnesses. The engineer was asleep, and so was the
brakeman. You could have won the whole amount."
"Well, young fella," the farmer said as he pocketed the check, "you had me
worried, too. You see, that darned cow came home this morning."

*trial 재판 hearing and judging a person, case, or point of law in a court:
The murder trial lasted six weeks.

Fire swept the plains and burned down the farmer's barn. While he surveyed
the wreckage, his wife called their insurance company and asked them to
send a check for $50,000, the amount of insurance on the barn.
"We don't give you the money," a company official explained.
"We replace the barn and all the equipment in it."
"In that case," replied the wife, "cancel the policy I have on my husband."

Most of the actions of other people which give us annoyance spring from
causes that have nothing to do with the motives we assign to them.
Othello smothers Desdemona through a misunderstanding about a handkerchief
that five minutes' quiet talk would have cleared up, with disastrous
results to the villain, Iago. It is an excellent rule to distrust our
reading of facts, still more our reading of other people's motives in
relation to them. It is wrong in nine cases out of ten.
I can hardly recall a case in which my first conclusion as to why
So-and-So did this or that has not, on fuller knowledge, turned out
to be absurdly wide of the mark. How can it be otherwise?

Because man is a social being he cares for the judgment of his fellows.
He is gratified by praise and hurt by blame. To possess a good reputation
with family, neighbors, friends, to avoid social condemnation is
undoubtedly a motive for good conduct.
Pliny stated the case with substantial truth, though perhaps with some
exaggeration, when he said, "How few there are who preserve the same
delicacy of conduct in secret as when exposed to the view of the world!"
The truth is, the generality of mankind stand in awe of public opinion,
while conscience is feared only by the few. A saying of the Arabs puts
the point with cynical brevity: "In a town where you know no one do
whatever you like."

*anyhow 어쨌든 in any case; at any rate:
It's too late now, anyhow.

Many people think of crisis as being connected only with unhappy events.
'This is not the case," argued John. "There are experiences, maturational
crises we experience at times of life development and change. Some
examples are a child's first enrollment in school or his transfer at a
later age to a new school, marriage, or election to public office. These
events may hasten the occurrence of a crisis, both for the youngster and
his parents." "But there is also an unexpected kind of crisis,"
added Mary. This can stem from many sources such as having an automobile
crash, being fired from a job, falling suddenly ill, becoming involved in
a legal suit, or losing a large sum of money. Severe illness will create
a crisis not only for the individual concerned but also for his family.
And an illness may itself be caused by an emotional crisis like the death
of parents."

A poor musician was playing his guitar in the middle of a busy shopping
center. Walking over, a policeman asked, "May I see your permit?" "I
don't have one," the musician said. "In that case, you'll have to
accompany me." " Wonderful`" the musician responded gladly. "What shall
we sing?"

Thank you for sending your check in payment of your July bill. Please
accept our sincere excuse for writing to you as we did. Our collection
letter proceeds automatically in a series, and occasionally a payment
crosses a letter in the mails. This is apparently what happened in your
case. Your check has been properly credited and your account is now
marked paid in full.

I want to know what love is
Foreigner
I've gotta take a little time
A little time to think things over
I better read between the lines
In case I need it when I'm older
-
Now this mountain I must climb
Feels like a world upon my shoulder
Through the clouds I see love shine
It keeps me warm as life grows colder
-
**
In my life there's been heartache and pain
I don't know if I can face it again
Can't stop now
I've traveled so far to change this lonely life
-
***
I want to know what love is
I want you to show me
I wanna feel what love is
I know you can show me
-
I'm gonna take a little time
A little time to look around me
I've got nowhere left to hide
It looks like love has finally found me
