He has a superior sense in heading and attacking.

in a sense : 어떤 의미에 있어서
What you say is true in a sense.

1) 깊이 감동해서: with reverence; with a deep sense of gratitude
2) 인식하다: accept; face
→ 「둘도 없는」은 말 그대로는 irreplaceable이지만, most precious; more valuable than any thing else처럼 번역하는 것이 좋을 것이다.
Don't slight your precious life. You should not put your very existence in danger.
Minho was their dearest child.
He is a treasure to the teaching staff of our university.

* hang on to ~ : "끼고 있다(간직하다)"
A : Why don't you get rid of all these old things?
They're broken. There's no sense in hanging on to them.
B : Because it would be like throwing away my memories.

Frankly, Korean colleges and universities have been not very interested
in upgrading their educational standards. Their focus has been placed on
recruiting as many students as they can, rather than in improving the
conditions of education they provide for the students they have. In a
sense, this has been possible because of the vast demand for tertiary
education under Korea's peculiar social convention.

But in order to foster universities as institutions of higher learning,
government efforts alone are not sufficient. What is necessary are united
endeavors and a sense of joint responsibility on the part of the various
groups in society, including teachers, intellectuals, civic organizations,
political parties as well as the general public.

의미: in a sense, say a mouthful, to that effect

-- She was wearing a faded pair of jeans, earing made of plastic
-- I was the only one who could sense what she was
-- And I'm so proud of it
-- The meaning of love in the world nowadays doesn't really
count as much as it used to
-- For the reason I dare not say I'm in love with her, oh ∼
-- I walked and walked all night long trying to think of a better word
-- I couldn't come up with a better word than the word love
-- With her fragile fingers caressing and hugging me tightly

In the end, Spacey's devotion carries the film, the spirit of its central character and a wistful sense of what might have been.

Well, there has been a sense of realism to the film adaptation of the bestseller, the Da Vinci Code.
France will allow U.S. film director Ron Howard to shoot scenes inside the Louvre Museum.
The Da Vinci Code is a murder mystery set in the art world.
Leonardo Da Vinci's most famous painting, The Mona Lisa hangs in the Louvre.

Yesterday evening my son came in to ask if I felt like playing ball with him.
I was trying to get important work done, and I almost said no.
Then it occurred to me that my boy would never be a seven-year-old again.
So we went out onto the front lawn.
With the sun setting, we enjoyed being together.
There was a sense of beauty about the whole experience.

On the average, babies born in the spring are taller and heavier than those born at other times of the year.
In spring, growing children gain most rapidly in height.
The increase is almost twice that of a similar period in fall.
The very chemical composition of our blood changes slightly in the spring;
we sense the coming of the season in our life stream.

Our experience of life comes through our five senses.
Each sense gives us specific and useful information about our physical world.
Imagine for a moment that you didn't have the sense of smell.
How much less rich your world would be.
In our traditional work culture we act as if we have only one sense, either visual or auditory.
Most of us are trained to use one of these two senses as our dominant sense, to the exclusion of our other senses.
Learning to use all your senses is a good way to enrich every moment of your life.

Blindness is one of the most difficult of human handicaps because our eyes are so important to our learning.
One thing making education possible and life more pleasant for the blind is the development of a system by which they are able to learn to read.
Since the blind cannot use their eyes, they are taught to use the sense of touch in their fingers.
Reading raised printed matter of the common type is very, very difficult.
The special system now used was invented by Charles, and perfected by Louis Braille.
* the sense of touch : 촉각

Ecopsychology is a new area of psychology.
Ecopsychologists study humans and their relationships to the environment.
They feel that the environment is very important to our sense of well-being.
In fact, they believe it is central to our happiness.
If we are going to be happy, we need to connect more with nature.
Children are born with this feeling of connection to nature.
They often spend long periods of time with plants, trees, and insects.

In contrast, leaders who practice employee-centered behavior focus on reaching goals by building a sense of team spirit.
Employee-centered leaders are concerned with job satisfaction and group unity.
They are also more willing to let employees have a voice in how they do their jobs.

ected, owned, or exhibited in the traditional sense.
Often preferring concepts over materials, modern artists use materials in the broadest sense.
As a result, they have gone beyond the natural environment.
Their works use everything from neon lights and computers to the artists' own bodies, as artistic mediums.
Artists and art works can therefore become identical, as in the case of Body Art.
On the other hand, they can be distant from each other.
For example, an artist might phone workers in a museum, instructing them on how to make a work that he has not seen or touched himself.

When Gregg Navarez graduated from high school in Los Angeles, he borrowed $125 from a friend.
He planned to use the money to start his own cleaning business.
Some people thought that Gregg would never be able to repay the loan.
But they were wrong.
Within only three years, Gregg's business was flourishing.
By the time he was 21, he was making up to $6,000 a month.
Gregg's success story was a result of hard work and good business sense.

Elephants living in the jungle or on the plains sometimes sense danger.
At the first hint of danger, elephants will raise their trunks to smell any threat.
When an enemy is about to attack, the trunk may be used to warn the rest of the herd.
This is done by sending a loud trumpet-like sound, which makes the earth shake.
This warns the other elephants in the herd of possible danger.
The trunk plays a vital part in its life.
In fact, it is almost impossible for an elephant to survive if its trunk becomes damaged.

Earthquakes themselves are unpredictable.
Although any powerful submarine earthquake can bring a dangerous tsunami, not all such earthquakes actually result in a big wave.
Even though you have an effective detection system, it is useless if you cannot evacuate a threatened area.
Here, speed is of the essence.
Computer modeling can help show which areas are likely to be safest,
but common sense is often the best guide―run like the wind, away from the sea.
Evacuation warnings, too, should be easy to give as long as people are awake.
Radios are very effective to tell people to run.
* tsunami : 지진해일

College is totally different from high school because you are on your own.
I cannot stress too much about the idea of learning independence.
You discover so much about yourself in college.
There is no one to walk you to class.
You need to motivate yourself because there is no one to make you do your schoolwork, set your schedule, or get to class on time.
You gain a better sense of self and find yourself maturing when you are away from home.

Falls are a serious public health problem among older adults.
More than a third of adults aged 65 years and older fall each year.
For seniors, the risk of falling may be heightened by medications that cause dizziness or that can impair balance.
Falls can also result from diminished vision, hearing, and muscle strength.
Fortunately, preventing falls is a matter of common sense.
You can start by targeting the bathroom.
Securely attach non-slip grab bars and rubber mats in tubs and showers.
Install a raised toilet seat if needed.

Personal qualities are personal characteristics of an individual.
They are what make up one's personality.
They help a person get along in a new situation.
For example, trust and patience are qualities that employers would like a good worker to have.
Other qualities employers value are:
honesty, flexibility, problem solving, friendliness, intelligence, leadership, enthusiasm, and a good sense of humor.
Most employers want people who are dependable and who get along with others.
Though skills are important, an employer will select new employees based on their personal qualities as well.

For instance, as a woman, I would be surprised if a man gave up seat for me.
I might even prefer that he didn't offer such a thing
because such displays of courtesy have the potential to seem artificial, burdensome or even sexist.
Instead, we Americans believe in the rationality of "Finders, keepers."
This means that we think in this way:
“No, no, you were sitting there first, it makes the most sense that you continue to sit there.”

Those who are at the mercy of impulse―who lack self-control―suffer a moral deficiency:
The ability to control impulse is the base of will and character.
By the same token, the root of altruism lies in empathy, the ability to read emotions in others; lacking a sense of another's need or despair, there is no caring.
And if there are any two moral stances that our times call for, they are precisely these, self-restraint and compassion.

From ages six to eleven, says Hamburg, "school is a crucible and a defining experience that will heavily influence children's adolescence and beyond.
A child's sense of self-worth depends substantially on his or her ability to achieve in school.
A child who fails in school sets in motion the self-defeating attitudes that can dim prospects for an entire lifespan."
Among the essentials for profiting from school, Hamburg notes, are an ability "to postpone gratification, to be socially responsible in appropriate ways, to maintain control over their emotions, and to have an optimistic outlook"―in other words, emotional intelligence.

The scientist looks for order in the appearances of nature by exploring likenesses.
For order does not display itself of itself; if it can be said to be there at all, it is not there for the mere looking.
There is no way of pointing a finger or a camera at it; order must be discovered and, in a deep sense, it must be created.
What we see as we see it, is mere disorder.

If we behave in a way that lets others know we are sure of ourselves and that we have a strong sense of personal worth, violence will disappear, except as a last resort to protect ourselves from those who have not yet gotten the message.
Unfortunately, explanations do not change behavior.
We can, however, change ourselves, and this will change the way people think about us.
If you continue to do what you always did, you will get what you always got.
You cannot change the world but you CAN change yourself.
When you behave differently, people will look at you with different eyes.

Wherein lies the value of educating aesthetic taste?
The most straightforward answer is seemingly obvious.
There is much pleasure to be derived from appreciation of fine art works, and so providing students the means to appreciate them will make their lives more enjoyable later on.
But this answer itself raises two further questions.
First, does a person's overall aesthetically derived pleasure typically increase when that person is trained to appreciate the 'higher' as opposed to 'lower' art forms?
Second, does appreciation of the 'higher' forms really depend on a person's being educated to appreciate them?
Clearly a third question is implicit here as well, namely: in what sense are the 'higher' forms higher?
The issue of requiring or even encouraging aesthetic education is tied also to the question of whether certain sorts of taste in art are objectively better than others.

The global information market will be huge and will combine all the various ways human goods, services, and ideas are exchanged.
On a practical level, this will give you broader choices about most things, including how you earn and invest, what you buy and how much you pay for it, who your friends are and how you spend your time with them, and where and how securely you and your family live.
Your workplace and your idea of what it means to be "educated" will be transformed, perhaps almost beyond recognition.
Your sense of identity, of who you are and where you belong, may open up considerably.
In short, just about everything will be done differently.
I can hardly wait for this tomorrow, and I'm doing what I can to help make it happen.

Our problem has been trying to depend on government to police the polluters.
Polluting has been against the law for a long time, but there will never be enough government regulation to prevent the illegal dumping of waste chemicals or the midnight venting of smokestacks.
This polluting of the biosphere won't completely stop until an alarmed citizenry pulls out their video recorders and takes it upon themselves to catch these people in the act.
In a sense, business and the employees of business must regulate themselves.

History is supposed to provide a knowledge of the longer context within which our lives take place.
History is not just the evolution of technology; it is the evolution of thought.
By understanding the reality of the people who came before us, we can see why we look at the world the way we do, and what our contribution is toward further progress.
We can pinpoint where we come in, so to speak, in the longer development of Civilization, and that gives us a sense of where we are going.

have done just what the boy did. Now I'm a grandfather
and have a lot of gray hair and what a lot of people would call common sense.
But if I'm no longer young in age, I hope I stay young enough in spirit never to
fear failure-young enough still to take a chance and march in the parade.
- Walt Disney

A deep mistrust of science and technology is expressed by many in our society
today. Were it to prevail, this sense of suspicion and frustration could result not only
in our failure to solve our present crises, some of them the result of past misuses of
technology, but also in our future inability to deal with problems we may not even be in
a position to predict.

It is a peculiar sensation, this double-consciousness, this sense of always looking at
one's self through the eyes of others, of measuring one's soul by the tape of a world
that looks on in amused contempt and pity. One ever feels his twoness - an
American, a Negro; two souls, two thoughts, two unreconciled strivings.

Eisenhower's major virtue, which appeared less important in 1962 than it does
now, was a sense of proportion; he had an instinctive knowledge of what could be
done and, more important, what could not be done. As far back as 1951, for example,
when the French were fighting in Viet Nam, he forsaw nothing but swamps. "I'm
convinced that no military victory is possible in that kind of theater," he noted. In
1955 members of his Cabinet predicted imminent war with Red China in the Formosa
Strait. Ike knew better: "I have so often been through these periods of strain
that I have become accustomed to the fact that most of the calamities that we
anticipate really never occur."
* a sense of proportion:

Franklin's vision also was the source of many of the paradoxes of his character.
He was deeply involved in numerous causes, yet remained strangely aloof. He was a
revolutionary with a sense of humor.

In order to enjoy the detachment and to exercise the reason of a Hume or
a Gibbon, two things, besides intelligence, are required: self-knowledge and a
sense of humor. One must neither deceive oneself nor take oneself too seriously.

Humans, computers and animals could be said in some sense to think. Yet the
thought processes of each of these would be different:each would have its own strengths
and its own weaknesses. The merit of a particular combination of strengths and
weaknesses would depend on the job to be done.

In a more usual sense, perhaps, a practical man is a man occupied with
attaining certain ends that people consider important.
He must stick pretty close to the business of feeding and preserving life.
Nourishment and shelter, money-making, maintaining respectability, and, if
possible, a family―these are the things that give its meaning to the
common word "practical."
An acute regard for such features of the scenery,
and the universe, as contribute or can be made to contribute to these ends,
and a systematic neglect of all other features, are the traits of mind
which this word popularly suggests.
And it is because of the vital importance of these things to almost all
people that the word "practical" is a eulogy, and is able to be so
scornful of the word "poetic."

Some writers who do not think clearly are inclined to suppose that their
thoughts have a significance greater than at first appears. It is
flattering to believe that they are too profound to be expressed so
clearly that all who run may read, and very naturally it does not
occur to such writers that the fault is with their own minds, which
have not the faculty of precise reflection. It is very easy to persuade
oneself that a phrase that one does not quite understand may mean a
great deal more than one realizes. Fools can always be found to discover
a hidden sense in them.

If you will ask some one who has at some time acted in a manner for which
he would be punished if it became known, you will find that when discovery
seemed imminent, the person in question repented of his crime. I do not
say that this would apply to the professional thief who expects a certain
amount of prison as a trade risk, but it applies to what may be called
the respectable offender, such as the bank manager who has embezzled in
a moment of stress, or the clergyman who has been tempted by passion into
some sexual irregularity. Such men can forget their crime when there seems
little chance of detection, but when they are found out or in grave danger
of being so, they wish they had been more virtuous, and this wish may give
them a lively sense of the enormity of their sin.

Recently I bought a new car radio from a dealer who recommended it highly.
It proved no better than the one it replaced. I was about to charge into
his store and demand my money back, but it occurred to me to put myself
in his place. Doing this I saw how offended he'd be at having his judgment
questioned. So I took a different tact and appealed to his sense of
self-respect. He exchanged the radio for a much better one, without
charging me the difference in cost. As my grandmother used to say,
"You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar."

It used to be said that the Englishman's home is his castle.
In so far as this saying creates the impression that there is something
defensive and inhospitable about the Englishman's home, it is quite
misleading; for there is no country where family life has been more
readily thrown open to friends, and even to strangers, than England.
It represents a certain truth, however, in the sense that the Englishman
hates to be interfered with, and prefers to live without too close a
contact with his neighbors.
He likes to be able to keep himself to himself if he wants to.
He is clubbable, but he is not too sociable.
That is to say he readily associates with those who are sympathetic
to him, but has no love for the kind of communal life which brings him
into constant touch with everybody and nobody.

If he himself rose out of poverty, and filled a great position before he
died at the age of forty-three, this was not, I fancy, due to that
ambition to which most poor boys who afterwards achieve eminence owe
their success. He was, so far as I could judge, as free from ambition
in the ordinary sense of the word as any man who ever lived. If he rose
from position to position, it was not because he thrust himself on the
attention of his employers, but because his employers insisted on promoting
him. He was naturally a man of creative energy, a man who lived by his
imagination, and could no more help being conspicuous among ordinary human
beings than a gold coin in a plate of silver.

I was at the time much taken with a young person of extravagant tastes,
and the gratification of my desires was frustrated by the attentions of
more opulent admirers who were able to provide the luxuries that her
frivolous soul hankered after.
I had nothing much to offer but a serious disposition and a sense of humor.
I determined to write a book that would enable me to earn three or four
hundred pounds with which I could hold my own with my rivals.
For the young person was attractive. But even if you work hard it takes
a long time to write a novel; you have to get it published; then publishers
do not pay you till many months have elapsed.
The result was that by the time I received the money the passion that I had
thought would last for ever was extinct and I had no longer the slightest
wish to spend it in the way I had intended. I went to Egypt on it.

There is nobody but has some sense of humor, and in this respect Lincoln
was the most outstanding. He made the best use of humor wherever he
needed it. One day he was stopped on a street by a man, who thrust a gun
in his face.
"What seems to be the matter?" asked Lincoln.
"I have sworn an oath that I will shoot an uglier man than I," was the
man's answer. Then Lincoln said, "Shoot me, then, for if I am an uglier
man than you, I don't want to live."

Human folly, alas, will continue to devastate the nations with war. Men
will continue to be born who are not fitted for life, and life will be
a burden to them.
So long as some are strong and some are weak, the weak will be driven to
the wall. So long as men are cursed with the sense of possession, and
that I presume is as long as they exist, they will wrest what they can
from those who are powerless to hold it. So long as they have the
instinct of self-assertion they will exercise it at the expense of
others' happiness. In short, so long as man is man he must be prepared
to face all the woes that he can bear.

I look forward to old age without dismay. When Lawrence of Arabia was
killed I read in an article contributed by a friend that it was his
habit to ride his motor-bicycle at an excessive speed with the notion
that an accident would end his life while he was still in full
possession of his powers and so spare him the indignity of old age.
If this is true it was a great weakness in that strange and somewhat
theatrical character. It showed want of sense. For the complete life,
the perfect pattern, includes old age as well as youth and maturity.

There is a dilemma―probably a false dilemma―facing people who run schools
and colleges. Should they do most for the cleverer, or for the less
cleverer? In one sense, the answer is obvious. If you want to teach a
potential nuclear physicist, or a great musician, then he will need to
be taught more than most of us. On the other hand, since it is clear
that clever children for the greater part teach themselves, it might be
thought that the greatest effort should be given to those that do not
teach themselves.

The boss returned in a good humor from lunch and called the whole staff
in to listen to a couple of jokes he had picked up. Everybody but one girl
laughed uproariously.
"What's the matter?" grumbled the boss.
"Haven't you got a sense of humor?"
"I don't have to laugh," said the girl.
"I'm leaving Friday anyhow."

There was in my house a practice of reading aloud, which I regard as of
very great importance in developing a feeling for literature.
Most moderns, I find, do not regard literature as intended to be spoken
but only as addressed to the eye, with the result that they lose all
sense of rhythm.
One of the simplest requisites of a good style is that it can be read
aloud without causing difficulty in breathing, but this requisite is
not felt by those who have never acquired the habit of reading aloud.

It makes sense to use company letterhead to catch the eye of your reader
since it immediately establishes a reference point, especially if the name
of your company is impressive enough to warrant a second glance by someone
who would ordinarily throw your letter in the " circular file ".

In a sense, she is right.

Polite language, in a sense, spoils a casual atmosphere.

Some universities remain silent on the important issues of the day,
justifying their silence on the grounds that universities are neutral and
should not become involved. Such unwillingness to participate turns off
many students and members of the community who look to universities for
wise leadership. Campuses should serve as marketplaces for ideas. By
participation in their community, they should provide a genuine service,
even to many who believe that universities are academic in the worst
sense of the term.

It is as a pupil and admirer that I stand at the grave of the greatest
man who taught me in college. His intellect led the way from earlier work
to later achievements of modern science. He shaped his life, down to the
smallest detail, like a fine work of art. His never-failing kindness and
his sense of justice made him a leader in any society he entered.
Everyone followed him gladly, for they felt that he never set out to
govern but only to serve.

The aged live with enforced leisure, on fixed income, subject to many
continual illnesses. They also live in a culture that worships youth.
They are often treated like outcasts by a kind of culturally prejudiced
attitude. However, when I was growing up, there were rules of courtesy
towards all adults. I still believe old people deserve respect for their
experience and wisdom. I sometimes fear that mine will be the last
generation to have a sense of what growing old means.

Researchers said that playing with a computer will not increase a
preschooler's reading scores or train him or her in computer science. But
computers have two special qualities that very young kids find
irresistible: infinite patience and obedience. Computers are willing to
do the same thing over and over. This allows kids to build up
self-confidence. Every time they use computers, kids can get a wonderful
sense of being good at something. The benefit of computer use to
preschoolers is chiefly psychological.
* preschooler = 미취학 아동

Common sense aside, the most important asset in business is a sense of
humor, an ability to laugh at yourself or the situation. Laughter is
the most powerful and constructive force for calming tension. If you can
point out what is humorous or absurd about a situation and ease the
tension by getting the other party to share your feeling, you will have
the upper hand. There are very few absolutes in business. This is one of
them, and I've never seen it fail.

Global civil society is in one sense a separate social system growing up around international society and giving rise to regimes of its own.
Even so, its emergence has far-reaching implications for the dynamics of international society because it provides a social base for nonstate actors that helps them to participate effectively in the creation and operation of international regimes, which in turn influence the character of international society.
The emergence of a global civil society is partly a simple matter of material resources.
The introduction of the fax machine and the dramatic growth of the World Wide Web, largely as a function of global civil society rather than international society, has allowed nonstate actors to forge effective global alliances that are not subject to national governmental control.

One should expect the sense of shame to be blurred where socialization of the young becomes ineffectual, and social cohesion is weakened.
In this country at present the inability of adults to socialize their young has made it possible for juveniles to act on their impulses and materialize their fantasies.
The result has been a youth culture flauntingly shameless.

Work and play here take on a different meaning, and become equivalent to servitude and freedom.
The change consists in the subjective point of view from which the distinction is now made.
We no longer mean by work all that is done usefully, but only what is done unwillingly and by the spur of necessity.
By play we are designating, no longer what is done fruitlessly, but whatever is done spontaneously and for its own sake, whether it have or not an ulterior utility.
Play, in this sense, may be our most useful occupation.
So far would a gradual adaptation to the environment be from making this play obsolete, that it would tend to abolish work, and to make play universal.
For with the elimination of all the conflicts and errors of instinct, the race would do spontaneously whatever conduced to its welfare and we should live safely and prosperously without external stimulus or restraint.

Firstly, they had to, or wanted to, imitate the colonizer by adopting the latter's habits and ways of thinking.
Their imitation resulted, not just in the simple reproduction of those traits, but in a sense of inferiority.
Secondly, colonized people have double standards for judging people: one for their fellows, and another for their colonizers.
This self-division is a direct result of imposed colonialism.
These contradictory factors constituted the structure of feelings and attitudes of the colonized people for the following generations, even after independence has been achieved.

As I grew older, and chose my own reading, I rushed to comic papers and penny dreadfuls.
Some good people, when they saw me reading these in the train on my way to school, would shake their heads, and say they wondered my parents allowed it.
But my father, a man of great sympathy and good sense, took a wise and tolerant view.
He argued, if I had any sense, I should grow out of this type of reading: if I had not, it did not matter what I read, as I should be a fool anyway.
Besides, he argued, if he forbade me to read these things I should want to read them all the more, because they would have the charm of being illegal.
He was proved right on that point.

It is natural for people to express support for candidates of their choice and criticize political rivals.
If they dislike remarks made about a certain topic, they can criticize them any time, but it should only be done in proper and legal ways.

A great lover of the British Empire has said that under the British constitution even a successful rebellion is perfectly constitutional and he quotes historical instances, which I cannot deny, in support of his claim.
I do not claim any constitutionality for a rebellion successful or otherwise, so long as that rebellion means in the ordinary sense of the term, what it does mean, namely, wresting justice by violent means.
On the contrary, I have said it repeatedly to my countrymen that violence, whatever end it may serve in Europe, will never serve us in India.

We have on no small number of occasions seen beautiful individuals give their hard earned savings back to society, and through them we have seen that our society is wholesome and alive.
There are surely many more "loving hands" that we never hear about.
The fact remains, however, that compared to the country's overall economic strength, we still lack a mature culture of sharing.

Though we all have our own intuitive sense of what the words stress and fear mean, scientists use these words in very specific ways.
For them, stress is an external stimulus that signals danger, often by causing pain.
Fear is the short-term response such stresses produce in men, women or lab rats.
Anxiety has a lot of the same symptoms as fear, but it's a feeling that lingers long after the stress has lifted and the threat has passed.

Accustomed though we are to speaking of the films made before 1927 as
"silent," the film has never been, in the full sense of the word,
silent. From the very beginning, music was regarded as an indispensable
accompaniment ; when the Lumiere films were shown at the first public
film exhibition in the Unites States in February 1896, they were
accompanied by piano improvisations on popular tunes. At first, the
music played bore no special relationship to the films ; an
accompaniment of any kind was sufficient. Within a very short time,
however, the incongruity of playing lively music to a solemn film became
apparent, and film pianists began to take some care in matching their
pieces to the mood of the film.

The Second World War mobilized the Germans in more than one sense. Not
only did the majority of the male population swarm out as far as the
North Cape and the Caucasus, not to mention nearly the whole Jewish
population who were forced into emigration and death, but Germany also
abducted as many as ten million laborers, a third of them women, from
all over Europe, so that thirty per cent of all jobs, and in the
armaments industry more than half, were done by foreigners. After the
war, there were millions of displaced persons; only very few remained in
Germany. Compared to these catastrophic movements all contemporary
turbulences appear harmless.
