Our experience of life comes through our five senses.
Each sense gives us specific and useful information about our physical world.
Imagine for a moment that you didn't have the sense of smell.
How much less rich your world would be.
In our traditional work culture we act as if we have only one sense, either visual or auditory.
Most of us are trained to use one of these two senses as our dominant sense, to the exclusion of our other senses.
Learning to use all your senses is a good way to enrich every moment of your life.

The room was not dark when I opened my eyes.
A bright light was shining into it, but I could not see where the light came from.
The room was square, and its walls were covered with terrible paintings of devils.
The colors of these pictures had faded, but the drawings were still clear.
There was a round pit in the middle of the floor.
I saw all this in a few seconds, although I could hardly move.
But a moment later, I heard a strange noise from the pit.

In the last fifteen years, one hundred thousand elephants have been killed by illegal hunters in this valley.
Here, elephants usually run at the first sight or smell of man.
I want to always remember the deep wrinkles in the skin above the elephant's eyelashes, his wet and shining eyes, which now reflect the sunrise.
Surely this will never happen to me again; the memory must last a lifetime.
And I must never forget the way I feel, for at this moment I can see everything so clearly.

An old man got on a train with a gorgeous hat his son bought for him.
A young man beside him saw the hat on his lap and said, “Look, how elegant it is! Where did you get it?”
The old man said, “My son bought it at H. S. department store for me.”
The young man stealthily slipped his calling card into the hat and yelled,
A few weeks ago, I bought the same hat at H. S. department store
and stuck my calling card inside the hat, but the hat was stolen the other day.
Now I see the calling card in your hat, so it must be mine.
Now give it back to me.”
The old man thought for a while what he should do.
At last the old man handed the hat to the young man and said,
In fact, I’m a farmer and a few days ago, in a moonless night, a thief stole my favorite cow and dropped this hat unconsciously.
You are insisting that this hat is yours.
Thank God, you can take your lost hat and I can take my stolen cow back.”
At this the young man hesitantly said, “May I be excused a moment? Nature calls me.”
The young man stood up and went away in a hurry, leaving the hat behind. He never returned!

A few years ago, when I was back in Kansas, I gave a talk at my old college.
It was open to the public, and afterward a very old man came up to me and asked me if my maiden name had been Wemyss.
I said yes, thinking he might have known my father or my grandfather. But no.
"When I was young," he said, "I once worked for your great-grandfather, Robert Wemyss, when he had the sheep ranch here."
I think that was a moment when I realized all over again something of great importance to me.

And the past is no longer real.
It has value because it made you what you are now, but that is all the value it has.
So don't live in the past.
Live now.
When you are eating, eat.
When you are loving, love.
When you are talking with someone, talk.
When you are looking at a flower, look.
Catch the beauty of the moment!

The moment he saw me, he hugged me and tried to calm my ragged nerves.
I kept repeating, "I'll never drive again."
He said, "Oh, yes, you will.
In fact, you are going to drive me home."
Then, he told me about Thomas Alva Edison and how he made the first electric light bulb after seven years of hard work and experimentation.

The assistant accidentally dropped it.

Edison went to work on a second bulb.
After he had completed it, he handed it to his assistant again, to prove that he had confidence in him.
I knew how the assistant must have felt when I was behind the wheel of that car, driving my dad home.
This was only one of the lessons I learned from this remarkable man.

"Mom," he said, "my teacher says I'm in the class of 2000. Is that true?"
I replied that it was.
After a moment's pause he continued.
"Well, I've been counting and counting and I just don't think there are that many kids in my class."

Life moves on, whether we act as cowards or as heroes. Life has no other
discipline to impose, if we would but realize it, than to accept life
unquestioningly. Everything we shut our eyes to, everything we run away
from, everything we deny, or despise, serves to defeat us in the end. What
seems nasty, painful, evil, can become a source of beauty, joy and strength,
if faced with open mind. Every moment is a golden one for him who has the
vision to recognize it as such.

If you will ask some one who has at some time acted in a manner for which
he would be punished if it became known, you will find that when discovery
seemed imminent, the person in question repented of his crime. I do not
say that this would apply to the professional thief who expects a certain
amount of prison as a trade risk, but it applies to what may be called
the respectable offender, such as the bank manager who has embezzled in
a moment of stress, or the clergyman who has been tempted by passion into
some sexual irregularity. Such men can forget their crime when there seems
little chance of detection, but when they are found out or in grave danger
of being so, they wish they had been more virtuous, and this wish may give
them a lively sense of the enormity of their sin.

The Empress Josephine was a gormandizer in regard to clothes. At first
Napoleon used to pay her dressmaker's bills, though with continually
increasing protest. At last he told her that she really must learn
moderation, and that in future he would only pay her bills when the
amount seemed reasonable. When her next dressmaker's bill came in,
she was for a moment at her wit's end, but presently she bethought
herself of a scheme. She went to the War Minister and demanded that
he should pay her bill out of the funds provided for the war.
Since he knew that she had the power to get him dismissed, he did so,
and the French lost Genoa in consequence.

You can spend the rest of your life worrying, and it will not change a thing.
I define worry as being unable to move in the present because of concern
about something in the future over which you have little control.
You must be careful not to confuse this definition of worrying with planning
for the future. If you are planning, and the present-moment activity
contributes to a more effective future, this is not worry. It is worry
only when you are unable to move now about a future happening.

They say it is lucky to find a four-leafed clover, but I rarely heard of
anybody finding one by actually looking for it.
Your chances of coming across one are slightly improved if you happen to
be an observant person, and you can become observant by training your
own faculties.
But however observant you may become, your hopes of finding a four-leafed
clover are still slim. It is an odd fact that many of the greatest
discoveries have been, in effect, stumbled upon―but usually by people
whose minds were in a condition to perceive them, who by training and
inclination were looking in the right direction.
However, the moment of revelation has seldom been coldly
calculated―in art, never.

The man divided against himself looks for excitement and distraction:
he loves strong passions, not for sound reasons, but because for the
moment they take him outside himself and prevent the painful necessity
of thought.
Any passion is to him a form of intoxication, and since he cannot
conceive of fundamental happiness, all relief from pain appears to
him solely possible in the form of intoxication.
This, however, is the symptom of a deep-seated malady.
Where there is no such malady, the greatest happiness comes with the
most complete possession of one's faculties. It is in the moments when
the mind is most active and the fewest things are forgotten that the
most intense joys are experienced.

*crisis 위기 a point or moment of great danger, difficulty, or uncertainty:
The sudden rise in oil led to an economic crisis.

A young woman who was about to wed decided at the last moment to test her
sweetheart. So, selecting the prettiest girl she knew, she said to her,
though she knew it was a great risk:
"I'll arrange for Jack to take you out tonight walk on the beach in the
moonlight, a lobster supper and all that sort of thing―and I want you,
in order to put his faithfulness to the proof, to ask him for a kiss."
The other girl laughed, blushed and assented. The dangerous plot was
carried out. Then the next day the girl in love visited the pretty one
and said anxiously:
"Well, did you ask him?"
"No, dear."
"No? Why not?"
"I didn't get a chance. He asked me first."

You should leave in a moment.

It is so easy to be reactive! You get caught up in the moment. You say
things you don't mean. You do things you regret later. And you think,
"Oh, if only I had stopped to think about it, I would never have reacted
that way!" Clearly, our lives would be better if we acted based on our
deepest values instead of reacting to the feelings of the moment. What we
all need is a 'pause button' - something that enables us to stop between
what happens to us and our response to it.

A few years ago, when I was back in Kansas, I gave a talk at my old
college. It was open to the public, and afterward a very old man came up
to me and asked me if my maiden name had been Wemyss. I said yes,
thinking he might have known my father or my grandfather. But no. "When I
was young," he said "I once worked for your great-grandfather, Robert
Wemyss, when he had the sheep ranch here." I think that was a moment when
I realized all over again something of great importance to me. My
long-ago families came from Scotland. My true roots were there.

- OLD FRIENDS sung by EVERYTHING BUT THE GIRL
Not for the first time I look back on all those years
Not for the last time names will ring in my ears
When there was just a gang of us
storming the town by train and bus
A moment of thought this heart sends to old friends
Not for the first time I look back on my first love
Unable to speak or think or move, hand in glove
But what of it now where is she,
she who once meant so much to me
Because we are not, I can't pretend now old friends
I was told love should hold old friends
I was told love should hold old friends
But when you leave
You will close the door behind you
And time won't make amends to old friends
Standing here with my arm around you
Life's moved on

When there was just a gang of us storming the town by train
and bus.
A moment of thought this heart sends to old friends.

But what of bit now really she who once meant so much to me.

Because we are not,I can't pretend now old friends.

Standing here with my arm around you,
Life's moved on.

I Don't Wanna Cry ( Mariah Carey ) :
Once again we sit in slience
After all is said and done
Only emptiness inside us
Baby,look what we've become
We can make a million promises but we still won't change
It isn't right to stay together when we only bring
each other pain
I don't wanna cry
Don't wanna cry
Nothing in the world could take us back
where we used to be
Though I've given you my heart and soul
I must find a way of letting go
'Cause baby, I don't wanna cry
Too far apart to bridge the distance
But something keeps us hanging on and on
Pretending not to know the difference
denying what we had is gone
Every moment we're together is just breaking me down
But it hurts too much to stay around

HOW DEEP IS YOUR LOVE
Bee Gees
I know your eyes in the morning sun
I fell you touch me in the pouring rain
And the moment that you wander far from me
I wanna feel you in my arms again
And you come to me on a summer breeze
Keep me warm in your love then you softly leave
And it's me you need to show
How deep is your love (x3)
I really mean to leam
'cause we're living in a world of fools Breaking us down
When they all should let us be
We belong to you and me
I believe in you
You know the door to my very soul
You're the light in my deepest darkest hour
You're my savior when I fall
And you may think I care for you
When you kndw down inside that I really do

Dust in the wind
Kansas
I close my eyes.
Only for a moment.
And the moment's gone.
All my dreams.
Pass before my eyes a curiosity.
Dust in the wind.
All they are is dust in the wind.
-
Same old song.
Just a drop of water in on endless sea.
All we do.
Crumbles to the ground though we refuse to see.
Dust in the wind.
All we are isdust in the wind.
-
Don't hang on.
Nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky.
It slips away.
All your money won't another minute buy.
-
Dust in the wind.
All we are is dust in the wind.
Dust in the wind.
Everything is dust in the wind.
-

### Show Me The Way -- Sticks ###
-
As I slowly dropped to sleep for a moment
dream are sacred
I close my eyes
and know there is piece in a world so filled it hatred.
then I wake up each morning and turn on the news
to fined we've so far to go
and I keep on hoping for a sign.
so afraid I just won't know
show me the way show me the way
bring me tonight to the mountain
and take my confusion away
and show me the way

# Dust in the wind # sung by Kansas
I close my eyes only for a moment.
And the moment's gone.
All my dreams pass before my eyes, curiosity? (???)
Dust in the wind all they are is dust in the wind.
Same old song just drop of water in the endless sea.
All we do crumbles to the ground.
Though We'll refuse to see dust in the wind, all we are is dust in
the wind.

Always Be My Love Baby -- Mariah Carey
We were as one
For a moment in time
And it seems everlasting
That you would always be mine
Now you want to be free
So I will let you fly
'Cause I know in my heart
Our love will never die
