I just got a call from the head office asking about it.

It's got my driver's license, my credit card, and about 10,000won, I think.

You mean I got bumped, is that it?

I've got it now. (skill) / I'm used to it. (situation)

Do you regard your voice as a gift? Do you believe? Are you a believer?
I'm a believer. I'm a believer. I think it was... I think the whole family, my whole family was blessed and gifted.
I think I got to be the luckiest one. Probably, yes. But it's definitely a gift.

Sir Richard, you've got so much, so why are you prepared to risk it all by becoming a daredevil?

The principal of a school I was working for at the YMCA said,
you know, "I need a substitute teacher, will you come and do this job?" And I said, "Sure."
And then after I got in the class she said, "Oh, by the way, it's a classroom for children with autism."
And I couldn't get out at this point. So I stuck around through the maternity leave, and fell in love with it so much that I...

S1 : What shall I do? That report is due today.
S2 : Why don't you ask the teacher to put off the deadline?
S1 : No way. This is not the first time. Did you do your homework?
S2 : Yes. But you haven't got time to copy my report.
S3 : Give it to me. I'll get it done for you.
S1 : Wow! You're a lifesaver.
S3 : Buy me something to eat later.

T : Everyone, look outside. It's raining now. Fall rain...
S : Ms. Lee, how about teaching us an English popsong?
T : Should I? What song would be good? Oh, I got it.
Last night, I saw a classic movie on TV. The story was about one unlucky man.
S : I also saw it with my father.
My father likes the song

S1 : Let's take a break.
S2 : What? Take a break? You haven't even learned your lines by heart yet.
We should practice at least for another hour before we take a break.
S3 : Excuse me. I am sorry to say this, but I can't practice any longer. My father wants me to come home early.
S2 : You can't go. You've got to stay. No excuses. Who can play your part? It's too late to find a substitute.
You can practice on your own during breaks. So-ra! I can't even hear your voice. Speak louder and clearer.
S4 : Okay.
S2 : Have you forgotten your role is female? Speak like a woman.

S1 : I heard you got a swimming trophy! Congratulations!
S2 : Thanks. I worked really hard to get it.
S1 : Can you teach me how to swim like you?
S2 : Sure, no problem. I can meet you at 6 every Friday.
Is that okay?
S1 : Fine with me. See you then.
S2 : Wait! Where shall we meet?
S1 : Goodness! I almost forget the most important thing.
S2 : Let's meet in front of the school? Is that okay with you?
S1 : Sounds great. See you there.

T : Min-su, please answer question 1.
S : Sorry, what page are we on?
T : What were you thinking about?
S : Sorry.
T : What have you got on your desk?
S : Well, I was thinking about my music homework. Today is the deadline.
T : I don't want to hear your excuses. You should have done it before.
S : The thing is I was sick over the weekend, I didn't have time for it. Sorry, it won't happen again.
T : Okay. Any volunteers?

T : Everyone, It's time for listening practice. First of all, let's check the tape recorder. Is it clear enough?
S1 : Not bad, Mr. Kim.
T : Can you hear in the back?
S2 : No, Mr. Kim. Is it at the maximum?
T : I wonder.
S2 : If so, I don't think the tape recorder works properly.
T : Oh, I'm sorry. I've got too much bass. Just a second. I'll try it again. Is the volume all right now?
S2 : Yes, Mr. Kim.
T : Good. Now, you will hear the dialogue. Listen carefully.

S1 : Don't you think the test was hard?
S2 : Nope, I thought this test was easy compared to all the other tests.
S1 : Really? Good for you. It was hard for me, though.
S3 : Did you say it was easy? You must have studied hard?
S2 : Yes. Studying helps me get good grades.
S1 : How well did you do?
S2 : Well, I got 100 in English, 95 in both Korean and math. Generally good, I guess.
S3 : What an ego! Let's study hard so we can beat him next time.
S1 : Yes, I agree. Where should we begin?

T : Nam-su, what's the matter with you?
S : I've got a fever and a really bad headache.
T : Oh, that's too bad. Why don't you take some aspirin in the nurse's room?
S : I've already tried that. But I took some already and it didn't help. I feel nauseous.
T : Well, maybe you should go home and see a doctor.
S : I think so.
T : I'll call your mother to pick you up.
S : Thank you.

S : May I have a talk with you for a second?
T : What can I do for you?
S : I want to quit school.
T : I beg your pardon?
S : However hard I study, I always get everything wrong. I'm just not cut out for school.
T : I see, but ...
S : Since my grades are low, my friends are keeping their distance from me, and ...
T : You just can't quit school. Remember many big goals can't be achieved overnight. It takes time.
You've got to do things one step at a time.
S : Okay, sir.

During a visit to my son and daughter-in-law in Orange, Texas,
I commented on some items for sale there that weren't available In the small Colorado town where I lived.
Stan and Denise later presented me with several things I had admired, but they refused reimbursement.
Before I left for home, I put a check into a kitchen cabinet.
Back in Colorado, I got a phone call from Stan.
I insisted that they keep the money, but he said they'd never cash the check.
“Besides, Mom,” my son added, “you forgot to sign it.”

On most subway trains, the doors open automatically at each station.
But when you are on the M1tro, the subway in Paris, things are different.
I watched a man on the Mtro try to get off the train and fail.
When the train came to his station, he got up and stood patiently in front of the door, waiting for it to open.
It never opened.
The train simply started up again and went on to the next station.
In the Mtro, you have to open the doors yourself by pushing a button, depressing a lever or sliding them.

Robert: Do you think e-mail is convenient to use?
Sophia: I'm afraid not. It can take time to check and clear my e-mail box.
And it is wasteful of my time. Sometimes, the lines are busy, and it's difficult to log on.
Sometimes, the system crashes and can't be used.
Robert: Have you made mistakes when you send an e-mail?
Sophia:Yes, of course. The other day I complained about my boss in an e-mail to another employee.
I pressed the wrong key to send it, and everyone in the office got the mail, including my boss.

The first thing the English teacher did was to pass around a tea bag.
She said, “I was making my usual cup of tea this morning, and I found this strange tea bag.
It smells of tea, and it looks the same as all the other tea bags in the box, but there is nothing inside it.
I'd like you to write something, using this as a metaphor.”
We got into it right away and came up with some really cool ideas.
The teacher said tea bags bring good luck, so she hung this one above her desk.

An old man got on a train with a gorgeous hat his son bought for him.
A young man beside him saw the hat on his lap and said, “Look, how elegant it is! Where did you get it?”
The old man said, “My son bought it at H. S. department store for me.”
The young man stealthily slipped his calling card into the hat and yelled,
“A few weeks ago, I bought the same hat at H. S. department store
and stuck my calling card inside the hat, but the hat was stolen the other day.
Now I see the calling card in your hat, so it must be mine.
Now give it back to me.”
The old man thought for a while what he should do.
At last the old man handed the hat to the young man and said,
“In fact, I’m a farmer and a few days ago, in a moonless night, a thief stole my favorite cow and dropped this hat unconsciously.
You are insisting that this hat is yours.
Thank God, you can take your lost hat and I can take my stolen cow back.”
At this the young man hesitantly said, “May I be excused a moment? Nature calls me.”
The young man stood up and went away in a hurry, leaving the hat behind. He never returned!

Conversation can be on two levels―the content one and the feeling one.
For example, yesterday my friend Scott came over and told me what Ann had done to him.
I started to tell him why I thought Ann acted that way and Scott got angry and started fighting with me.
After he left, I realized that he didn't really want me to explain why Ann was that way,
but he wanted someone to understand his feelings because no matter why Ann did it, she really hurt him.
I probably should have said something like, “She really made you mad, didn't she?” and waited until the next day to talk about it.

I obligingly got him a soft drink and thought nothing of it.
Much to my astonishment, I soon found myself defending my actions.
I received a severe tongue lashing from the other women for "waiting on my husband."

I was told that I should have instructed him to go and get the drink himself.

Of course, the time frame is a little different.
In college I had to figure out what I could accomplish in one evening.
In business the time frame is more like three months to three years.

"We say that the universe is expanding."
"What makes it do that?"
"Most astronomers agree that the expanding universe can only have one explanation: Once upon a time, about 15 billion years ago, all substance in the universe was assembled in a relatively small area.
The substance was so dense that gravity made it terrifically hot.
Finally it got so hot and so tightly packed that it exploded.
We call this explosion the Big Bang."
"Just the thought of it makes me shudder."
"The Big Bang caused all the substance in the universe to be expelled in all directions, and as it gradually cooled, it formed stars and galaxies and moons and planets..."
"But I thought you said the universe was still expanding?"

"Yes I did, and it's expanding precisely because of this explosion billions of years ago.
The universe has no timeless geography.
The universe is a happening.
The universe is an explosion.
Galaxies continue to fly through the universe away from each other at colossal speeds."
"Will they go on doing that for ever?"
"That's one possibility.
But there is another.
You may recall that Alberto told Sophie about the two forces that cause the planets to remain in constant orbit round the sun?"
"Weren't they gravity and inertia?
"Right, and the same thing applies to the galaxies.
Because even though the universe continues to expand, the force of gravity is working the other way.
And one day, in a couple of billion years, gravity will perhaps cause the heavenly bodies to be packed together again as the force of the huge explosion begins to weaken.
Then we would get a reverse explosion, a so-called implosion.
But the distances are so great that it will happen like a movie that is run in slow motion.
You might compare it with what happens when you release the air from a balloon."
"Will all the galaxies be drawn together in a tight nucleus again?"
"Yes, you've got it.
But what will happen then?"
"There would be another Big Bang and the universe would start expanding again.
Because the same natural laws are in operation.
And so new stars and galaxies will form."

Think about it.
If I don't have wisdom I can only teach you my ignorance.
If I don't have joy I can only teach you despair.
If I don't have freedom I can only put you in cages.
But everything that I have I can give away.
That's the only reason for having it.
But I've got to have it first.
And so I dedicate myself to becoming the best me the world has ever known.

A woman found that her wristwatch wouldn't work, so she wrote to the manufacture.
When she got no answer, she sent the company a telegram reading:
"I have one of your watches. What time is it ?"
That worked - they sent her a new watch.

About this time, I got hold of a book on how to save energy. It was a real
eye-opener.

I called the operator and asked her to place a call for me. She replied stiffly,
"You can save time and money by dialing the number yourself."
"I know," I said, "but I've got the time and I'd like to spend some of it before it
stacks up." She mumbled something and gave me a disconnect.

Bing Crosby writes of an experience he had while traveling by train through the
Southwest many years ago.
Our train was stopped, and we were told there'd be a wait, so I walked up and down
the track behind the train. The rear brakeman, a hard-bitten little Texan, was walking
up and down, too, swinging his lantern. He came up to me and said,"They tell me that
rascal Bim Crosland's aboard. They say he's quite a singer, but as far as
I'm concerned, Larry Ross could run him in a gopher hole."
I agreed with him and thought no more of it. In the morning, there came a knock
on our door. It was the brakeman. He eyed me with a twinkle and said, "You
hoaxed me, didn't you? You're Bim Crosland yourself! Just for that, you've got to
sign my book."
So I signed it:"Bim Crosland."

I tried applying bitter-tasting medicine on his thumb, but he got accustomed
to it and sucks his thumb anyway.

Jackson went to a psychiatrist. "Doc," he said, "I've got trouble. Every
time I get into bed I think there's somebody under it. I get under the
bed, I think there's somebody on top of it. Top, under, top, under.
I'm going crazy!"
"Just put yourself in my hands for two years," said the shrink. "Come to
me three times a week, and I'll cure you."
"How much do you charge?"
"A hundred dollars per visit."
"I'll think about it."
Jackson never went back. Six months later he met the doctor on the street.
"Why didn't you ever come to see me again?" asked the psychiatrist.
