그리고 throw in the towel이라 하면 towel을
쓰인다. not by a long shot이란 말도 있는데 이것은
have the inside track은 타원형 경기장에서 맨 가운데

When are you going to retire?
'잠자리에 든다'는 go to bed, go to sleep
그리고 속어로 hit the sack, hit the hay 또한 turn in 이란

Produced by Miracin Korea headed by Ahn Byoung-ju, the movie

Q.
A.
the whole nine yard를 다 쏘게 되는 것이죠.
-
the whole nine yards는
on cloud nine입니다.
I'm on cloud nine.
I'm in seventh heaven.

I'm a black belt holder.
Please fasten your seat belt.
정답은 to unfasten a seat belt
We will have to tighten our belts for a while until the economy improves.
-
to hit below the belt라고 하면 권투에서 나온 표현입니다.
He always hits below the belt.
The planning committee is firmly opposed to any building in the green belt.
-
참, belt가 동사로 쓰이면 벨트로 때리다, 즉 '때리다'는 의미를 갖습니다. -_-;
The guard belted the prisoner.

The nation is now losing ground on three main economic fronts _
growth, prices and the balance of payments. Consumer prices have
already climbed 4.2 percent, almost broaching the 4.5 percent ceiling
the government hoped to keep them under for the whole of the year.
The trade deficit is expected to hit an all-time high of $20 billion at the
end of the year, nearly three times the earlier-projected $7 billion.
Foreign debts are also expected to hit $100 billion by the year's end.

Recently, a severe disease hit Asian nations hard, causing several hundred deaths.

On Thursday, Nov. 20, I was traveling east on Route 116 when a deer jumped out of the forest and hit my car.
The car behind me stopped right away.
A very nice, young couple came up to see if I was OK.
Then, they called the police for me and had me call my daughter on their cell phone.
I thanked the young couple who didn't even know me and stopped to help.

Severe weather is a constant possibility all over the globe, but we never really expect our own area to be affected.
However, last night was different.
About ten o'clock, a tornado hit Lucedale.
This violent weather destroyed nine homes near the downtown area.
In addition to these nine houses that were completely destroyed, many others in the area had heavy damage.
Amazingly, no one was injured in last night's terrible storm.
Because of the rapid reaction of state and local weather watchers, most of the area's residents saw the warnings on television.

Reuben Gonzales was in the final match of a major racquetball tournament and was looking for his first professional win.
At match point in the final game, Reuben made a super shot for the victory.
The referee called it good.
But Reuben disagreed with the referee.
Declaring that his shot had hit the floor first, he shook his opponent's hand and walked off the court.
As a result, he lost the match.
Asked why he did it, Reuben simply said, “It was the only thing I could do to maintain my honesty.”
Honor and honesty can command a high price, and they are worth so much.
Reuben Gonzales

A space rock big enough to cause widespread damage will hit the Earth only about once every 1,000 years,
but experts say the destruction would be so extreme that nations should develop a joint defense against space rocks.
Some scientists estimated that the space rock would release about 10 megatons of explosive energy.
Such a rock, estimated at 180 feet across, fell down through the atmosphere over Tunguska in Siberia in 1908
and destroyed trees across 800 square miles of forest land.

Michael Jordan wasn't born a star.
He had natural talent, but a part of his success was a result of his parents' support.
Michael's parents taught their children that all races are equal.
But at the age of seven, Michael was put to the test.
A white girl told him to give up his seat at the front of a bus.
When he refused, she called him a “nigger.”
In anger, he hit her, and was suspended from school.
He learned to overcome obstacles such as this with his mother's wisdom.
His mother repeated what she often said, “Outside this door, all sorts of things will happen.
Don't let it affect you.
If people call you nigger, that's their ignorance.”
Michael Jordan

The captain of a luxury liner was instructing a new crew member on part of his job.
“Your responsibility, sailor, in case of danger, is to yell ‘Man the lifeboats! Man the lifeboats!'”
The sailor practiced it and soon had it down perfectly.
A few hours later, the boat was hit by an iceberg and began sinking.
The sailor yelled, “Woman the lifeboats! Woman the lifeboats!” The captain was surprised.
“What's going on?” he demanded.
“Listen, captain,” the sailor replied, “you fill your boats the way you want, and I'll fill my boats the way I want!”

My love of kite began one day last March.
I was sketching a robin in my backyard when a loud noise startled me.
An eagle was swooping down from the sky.
As it fell, it screamed “Waaah!"
It lay still.
The eagle was made of painted paper!
Then I heard the sound again behind me: "Waaah!"
Turning, I saw Tommy, the seven-year-old who lives next door, crying.
"Is it broken?" he asked through tears.
"I don't know," I said.
"What happened?"
"It hit a tree and fell."
I lifted the toy and studied it.
The round wooden stick that supported the kite was broken.
Fixing and flying it for two hours, I was so excited that I couldn't believe the fun I had.

out=Watch
out=Be careful은 모두 조심해라

cross?

A devastating earthquake hit the state capital.

I'm sorry, but I've got to hit the road.

Today let me tell you about an experience I had on the bus. The bus was
full and I was standing near the door. As people got on, they stepped on
each other's feet and pushed one another in the back. I realized that the
riders didn't like it, but they understood that's the way it is. In my
country, when getting on a bus, people will apologize if they touch a
person at all. Where I come from, everyone worries about individual space
no matter where they are.
▶ Push another one in the push
He hit me on the head. = He hit my head
He pulled me by the hand. = He pulled my hand.

I lost consciousness. Later I
learned that we had hit a car coming from the other direction. That
accident made my friend spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair, and I
learned a costly lesson.

[ Is it possible to break a glass by singing or shouting? ]
Issacs : If you think a human voice is not powerful enough, you should
explain this. While I was arguing with a friend one afternoon, our voices
rose higher and higher, and suddenly a glass on the table broke into
pieces.
Collins : Working in the music business, I have seen glasses fall off
speakers and break. But I've never seen someone break a glass with just
his or her voice.
Freeman : I happened to do this when I was singing the title song from
the film Annie. When I hit the highest note, a large wine glass suddenly
broke.
Freeman: Annie

All parents agree that children must learn the difference between right
and wrong. In order to teach this lesson, they sometimes punish their
children. But ideas a bout how to punish children differ from culture to
culture and family to family. Some parents believe that spanking children
is the best way to punish. Others think that parents should never hit
their children. Most parents punish their children in the same ways that
they were punished by their parents. In short, there is a lot of
disagreement about the best way to punish children.

Everything depended on my final arrow. Still, my rival looked calm. For a
moment, I dreamed I would go home with a gold medal. I approached the
shooting line, remembering all the hard training I had gone through.
Suddenly, I felt my heart beating faster. But I slowly aimed at the
target. Shortly after my arrow began to fly, I heard the crowd cheering.
When I looked at the target, I could not believe my eyes. My arrow hit
the very center of the yellow circle. Then I heard my teammates shouting,
"You did it!"

some kind of trouble, some kind of fight

Just don't ask me what it was
