영화 Back to the Future에서 주인공(Michael J. Fox)이 자주 들었던 욕입니다.
You chicken! Come back here.
He chickened out as soon as he saw me.
Don't be chicken-hearted when you have to fight against enemy.

Look at that chick. She is a knock-out.

Professors also have to share part of the blame. Most professors have
taken a nonchalant attitude to the problem, avoiding any ideological
debate with students who are armed with much theory, albeit clumsy,
lest they stir up hornets' nests and put their teaching jobs in
jeopardy.

stir up hornets' nests :

Deplorably enough, the government, the school authorities and the
political parties have also declined to face squarely a perennial student
problem that has been worsened by the expansion of student networks
and the sharpening of their ideological armament. No one has wanted to
get into trouble by tackling the militant students, and a blind eye has
been turned to the problem.

Though President Kim no doubt felt somewhat awkward blaming a
whole sector of society for the recent development, he rightly pointed out
that educators have been reluctant to step in and correct misguided
students, providing them with appropriate ideological guidance. But the
problem is that professors these days have much less influence on
students than their ideologically-trained peers or seniors.

A fundamental change is happening in entertainment around the world.
People are relying more and more on their televisions and CD players for their entertainment.
The problem is that people want to choose what they do and when and where they do it.
This makes home-based entertainment more attractive than live performances.
The biggest theaters located in large cities find they have to focus on glamorous productions with top stars to attract the crowds.
Meanwhile, many small and medium-sized arts organizations face growing financial pressures.

One of the most valuable abilities you can develop is the ability to study, which is not something you study the night before an exam.
Rather, you have to learn how to study so you can independently approach a new problem and think it through to a successful solution.
Mastering a method of doing something is also an accomplishment that can only be achieved through genuine study.
Learning to study effectively is far more important than merely acquiring particular information.

“Super Size Me” is a documentary film on a guy who ate only hamburgers for a while.
It was intended to show how harmful fast foods are to our health.
I believe the experiment is highly educational.
The results of the experiment are truly shocking and I hope this documentary will cause people to be aware of the problem of obesity.
I suggest schools should show this movie in classes.
Although it may be hard for kids to believe such results,
they need to learn that they have to be responsible for what they eat.

Well, as in most work situations, we have a problem here with communication.
That is, most managers do not want to hear people complain, and most employees are afraid to come right out and say what they feel.
They usually won't say what they like or don't like.
They may complain to each other during lunch or after work, but they do not complain directly to the manager.
It is important, however, for a manager to find out if he or she is doing a good job.
One way to do this is to give employees a chance to talk.
Employees need an opportunity to say what is wrong, what they don't like about the work situation, and what they would change to make their work better.

One day, a poor man named Scott, came to visit Taylor.
He said, “Taylor, I need your help. I am a poor man, a man with no money.”
Taylor looked at him kindly and answered, “I'll help you. Tell me what's wrong.”
Scott said, “Yesterday I stopped in front of the door of a restaurant.
The restaurant belonged to a rich man.
I only smelled the food.
However, he wanted me to pay him for the food.
And he called the judge.
The judge said I must go to the court today.
Please Taylor, can you help me?”
In the court the rich man began shouting angrily at Scott.
And the judge asked Scott to pay him right now.
Taylor stepped forward and then said, “This poor man is my elder brother. I will pay you instead.”
After he heard this, the rich man smiled, thinking about his payment.
Then Taylor took a bag of money from his belt, a bag of copper coins.
He bent down next to the rich man and shook the bag.
“Listen. Do you hear this sound?” said he.
“Of course I hear it,” shouted the rich man impatiently.
“Well, then,” answered Taylor, “the problem is solved. The debt is paid.
My brother has smelled your food, and you have heard his money.”
The poor man was saved.
Taylor

Every human being will grow older and die.
Aging in itself is not a disease or a sickness, but as people age, disease often follows and the elderly need others' help.
In addition, the percentage of senior citizens in the world has increased very quickly, and our society is no exception.
The problem for us is that we have left the care of the elderly to their families.
We must change our attitude toward this issue and develop more systematic social programs.
The sooner we realize the importance of the role of government in this matter, the smaller the final cost to society as a whole will be.

Question : What do you do to keep yourself physically fit?
Tom : When I was in college I used to play sports like baseball and basketball.
But I can't do that now, so I try to play golf every weekend.
I work mostly sitting at my desk in my office, so I like to get outside and get some fresh air.
Sue :When the weather is OK, I go jogging in the early morning almost every day.
It's fun and it makes me feel fresh all day.
In the winter I don't feel safe running in the dark, so I usually jump rope and lift weights before breakfast.
Liz :I have no weight problem, but I'm not as strong as I used to be.
I'm worried about my health, to tell the truth.
Last summer I quit smoking and next month I'm going to buy an exercise machine.
I'm looking forward to that.

International businesses need to understand the customs of other countries,
or they will probably have difficulty selling their products.
For example, an American orange juice company in France will have a problem if it sells orange juice as a breakfast drink
because the French don’t drink juice with breakfast.

When my grandmother began to have problems in seeing, hearing and walking, a number of family meetings were held.
We discussed what we should do for her.
We talked of placing her in a nursing home, but that idea was quickly given up.
Although my grandmother would be with more people of her own age, she would see even less of her family, and that would break her heart.
Mother would not allow her own mother to grow old and weak in a strange place.
She said, “I will not let Grandmother end up in a nursing home,”
and I admire my mother greatly for this decision.
It was not an easy decision for her.
When so many others are running away from the problem of what they should do about their old parents, my mother stands out remarkably.

Convinced that education is their best hope for the future,
many Kenyan parents are willing to make great sacrifices to send their children to high school.
They quickly discover, however, that there are not enough schools for everyone.
Even the high schools run by the government are too expensive for many families.
Kenyans have found an answer to the problem in harambee, a word that means self-help.
As part of the harambee movement, many villages built their own high schools.
Villagers organized fund-raising campaigns instead of expecting their government to help them.
Church groups donated some of the money.
Those who had no money to give donated their labor.

What a computer is designed to do is, essentially, arithmetic.
Any problem, however complex, can somehow be broken down into a well-defined series of arithmetical operations that can be solved by a computer.
The computer is amazing not because of its capability to handle arithmetical operations,
but because of the fact that it can perform these operations in one billionth of a second without error.
The human brain, on the other hand, is incredibly poor at arithmetic.
Unlike computers, it needs and has always needed outside help to solve the simplest problems.
We began by counting on our fingers, and have moved on to better things only with the help of pen and paper, Arabic numerals, mechanical calculators and eventually computers.

Personal qualities are personal characteristics of an individual.
They are what make up one's personality.
They help a person get along in a new situation.
For example, trust and patience are qualities that employers would like a good worker to have.
Other qualities employers value are:
honesty, flexibility, problem solving, friendliness, intelligence, leadership, enthusiasm, and a good sense of humor.
Most employers want people who are dependable and who get along with others.
Though skills are important, an employer will select new employees based on their personal qualities as well.

As more women have careers and important jobs, a new kind of family problem is becoming more common.

If she accepts the offer, that means her husband has to leave his job, too.
He may have trouble finding another job in the same city.

In the past, women often had to face this problem when their husbands found new jobs.

If you want to make good use of your time, you've got to know what's most important and then give it all you've got.

I might have had five classes the next day, including an oral quiz where I didn't want to look stupid, so I had to prepare.

Anyone who wants to become a problem-solver in business has to learn fairly early how to establish priorities.
Of course, the time frame is a little different.
In college I had to figure out what I could accomplish in one evening.
In business the time frame is more like three months to three years.

"This is the brave, macho attitude: deny the problem, push it away, conjure up our heroic agenda.
If we take this attitude, then the fear continues to eat at us unconsciously.
Adopting a positive outlook is very important in staying healthy, but we have to engage in this attitude in full awareness, using love, not macho, for this attitude to be completely effective.

In many countries, overcrowded cities face a major problem.
This has been mainly caused by the drift of large numbers of people from the rural areas.
These people have become dissatisfied with the traditional life of farming, and have come to the cities hoping for better work and pay.
Unfortunately, however, poor conditions in the urban areas, such as lack of housing, worsening sanitation and unemployment, bring about an increase in poverty, disease and crime.

She had just begun an intense, love-at-first-sight relationship, only to have her lover go off to Europe three weeks later.
For seven tortured weeks she was plagued with doubts.
What if he decided he didn't love her after all?
What if he met someone else during his trip?
What if he didn't call her as soon as he returned?
Full of all these what-ifs, my friend's brain was about to short-circuit, until a wise friend of hers put things in perspective.
"Why worry? Whatever he does, he does.
Remember: You don't know until you know."
My friend stood there, awestruck by the brilliant simplicity of this observation.
There was really nothing she could do about the situation, after all.
And worrying about something before it actually happened suddenly came into focus as the waste of time and energy that it is.
In an instant, it seemed, she was free of the problem, able to settle back and take each day at a time until her lover returned, at which point things progressed just as beautifully as she could have hoped and her fears turned out to be groundless after all.

It is clear, therefore, that the destruction of the Amazon rain forest must stop.

I am aware [
Mr. Keats
not put your mind at ease
not something we have a ready answer for

It may take~ but we will~ [(시간이)걸릴지도 모르지만 ~하겠다]

Mr. Han, our Vice President, has given me the responsibility of
resolving your problem. He has stressed the importance of satisfying a
person of your stature. I, in turn, have ordered our representative in
your country to fully investigate your difficulty and to send us a
detailed report so that we can immediately work out satisfactory
countermeasures.

I, in turn, have ordered [
fully investigate [충분히 조사하다]
a detailed report [상세한 보고]
immediately work out [곧 조처를 취하다]
satisfactory countermeasures [만족할 만한 해결책] fully, detailed,

I am aware, Mr. Keats, that this preliminary procedure might not
put your mind at ease immediately. Unfortunately, your particular
problem, from what little we know about it, is extremely rare and not
something we have a ready answer for. It may take a little while, but
we will have it fixed as soon as possible.

In addition to the above urgent countermeasures, we have decided to
dispatch a special team to help you solve the clutch problem at your
end. This team will be sent at our expense.

You shouldn't have any problem with the people next door.

I don't have any problem.

Have you heard the saving : "A problem shared is a problem halved"? If
you keep your problem to yourself, it can seem a great deal worse than it
really is. If you talk to somebody about your problem, yon can come to
see it in a different light. Putting an emotion into words and saying it
out loud often helps. Also, you will sometimes find that the person yon
talk to can convince you that there is really nothing to worry about at
all.

My memory is going, but I don't miss it that much. The nice thing is that
I remember mostly good things, and I tend to forget bad ones. For
example, I remember my childhood quite well, because it was really very
happy. I can't remember how old I am, but I seem to remember my birthdays
without any problem. This is strange, because I sometimes forget those of
other people -- especially if I have to dress up or give expensive
presents. I often forget to get up and go to work in the morning.
Fortunately, I seem to remember that I'm retired.

Lean on me
Bill Withers
Sometimes in our lives
We all have pain we all have sorrow
But, if we are wise
We know that there's always tomorrow
**
Lean on me when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
Till I'm gonna need somebody to lean on
Please swallow your pride
If I have things you need to borrow
For no one can feel
Those of your needs that you won't let show
***
You just call on me brother
When you need a hand,
We all need somebody to lean me
I just might have a problem that you'll understand
We all need somebody to lean me
** repeat
*** repeat
If there is a load you have to bear
That you can't carry
I'm ride up the road
I'll share your load
If you just call me

If you need a friend
