Preparations for `Blue Round' : '

help settle disputes at large companies, especially those at state-run
corporations, now face the even harder task of preparing for the ``Blue

S1 : Here comes the teacher. Let's stop talking now.
S2 : It might be a good idea to pretend to study English.
T : Sorry guys. I had something important to do.
Did you keep quiet while I was away?
S2 : Of course we did. We were studying English.
T : Is that true? Ah, look around you! If you keep your surroundings clean, you can study harder.
Let's pick up just one thing each.
Ss : Yes, we will.

T : We haven't had English class for a long time!
S1 : That's right, we haven't! There were so many school events this month that we couldn't have class.
During this time, I forgot many English words.
T : Because of this, as of today, why don't we study harder? Where have we learned up to?
S2 : Ms. Kim, someone is outside the classroom!
T : Is that so? How come you are here?
M : I am here to see the homeroom teacher of 3-2.

Two thirds of all missions to Mars have failed.
One reason there have been so many failures is that there have been so many attempts.
We have been trying to go to Mars for 40 years.
Another reason is that getting to Mars is hard.
To get there, spirit and Opportunity, the two Mars Exploration Rovers had to fly through
about 483 million kilometers of deep space and target a very precise spot to land.
The space environment isn't friendly.
If getting to Mars is hard, landing there is even harder.

To some people, success at their jobs requires effort and struggle.
That is, the harder they work, the more successful they will be.
To others, successful career depends on how much money they make.
Still others think that achieving satisfaction and contentment by working at a job they really like is the prime measure of success.
Reaching a desired position in their profession is another standard of success that some people use.
Success at a job, therefore, means different things to different people.

A type of artificial sand might be able to slow down beach from washing off.
Strangely, this new kind of sand is made by grinding glass.
You might think that walking barefoot on ground glass would be painful.
But it's not.
The reason is very simple.
Sand and glass are made of the same kind of material, called silicate.
When glass is ground very finely, you get a sandlike substance that is harder than real sand.
The size of the pieces can be controlled.
Larger pieces wouldn't be as easily affected by the wind and waves.
So a beach covered with artificial sand would last longer than a beach with real sand.

You have probably heard about firms whose policy is to “promote from within.”
It means that whenever a position needs to be filled, the firm makes a genuine effort to promote someone from a lower level in the firm.
Promotion from within has two advantages.
First, the person promoted from within is already familiar with how the organization operates.
Second, promotion from within tends to increase employee motivation.
If employees know that good work can lead to a promotion, they are more likely to work harder and better.
They are also more likely to stay with the company rather than seek advancement elsewhere.

Although restrictions against opening adoption files make the search much harder,
they do not necessarily discourage those adoptees who want to discover who their biological parents are.
Those men and women who are desperate to find what they want to know will, if they can afford it, hire a detective to find out.
If not, some of them are willing to devote all their time and energy to finding more about their origins.

Success is the act of trying to improve upon the things you're already doing.
It's growing and developing.
It's accepting bigger and greater challenges.
It's not being afraid of making a mistake, suffering a setback, or failing.
It's trying to do your very best.
And if, in the end, your very best wasn't quite good enough, you just have to go back to work and prepare a bit harder for the next time.
Nobody succeeds 100 percent in anything they do.
When you're able to recognize and accept this fact of life, you realize that failure and losing are as much a part of the game of life as are success and winning.

I remember Anne.
She wasn't the best player on the women's soccer team.
For one thing, she was too short.
Some of the rest of the team members were taller, and they could run faster and kick harder.

The bigger they come, the harder they fall.

I found the test problems harder than I have expected.

The manager can identify the particular level of need that each worker is
trying to satisfy, by analyzing the quality and quantity of work. Based
on this analysis, the manager can build into each job the opportunity to
satisfy both sides. If the work experience satisfies certain needs more
fully, employees will be motivated to work harder and the manager will
harvest the benefits along with them.

City and country dwellers, of course, conducted this pursuit in
different ways. Farm dwellers in their isolation not only found it
harder to locate companions in play but also, thanks to the unending
demands and pressures of their work, felt it necessary to combine fun
with purpose. No other set of colonists took so seriously one expression
of the period, "Leasure is time for doing something useful."

If you encourage us rather than complain, I think we will work harder, and we will think about what we can do for those who are patient.

This is an interesting psychological study finding that students work harder to meet educators' expectations and get praised.

However, the soft lump eventually became a horn of 10cm as it became harder and bigger as time went by.

This year is harder than last year, and next year will be more painful than this year.

Chairman Baek said, "It is difficult to tell apart a cold and COVID-19," adding, "The virus spreads in the winter when colds are prevalent, making it harder to determine."

There was life like a prison in which the door of the hospital room cannot be opened or closed, but the fake news that the mother was also infected made it harder than anything else.

We will work harder and fight harder to prevent the spread of infections in the community, he said.

It was hardly a new theme. Gates, who traditionally gives the trade
show's keynote address, has long promoted the idea that ever-smaller,
more convenient devices will help consumers take advantage of an
increasingly connected world, with Microsoft providing much of
the technology behind it all.
But this year's speech was notable for what Gates did not discuss: U.S.
District Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson's Nov. 5 finding that Microsoft
is a monopoly that has hurt consumers and stifled competition.
That finding, issued in the federal government's long-running
antitrust case against Microsoft, could make it harder for Microsoft
to provide the technology for the next wave of Internet devices,
which will be much leaner and lighter than personal computers.

While some people who have seen the new bills say Lincoln and Hamilton
appear younger than they did on the old ones, Treasury officials
maintain the likenesses are from roughly the same time period.
The bigger portraits are easier to recognize and their added detail
harder to duplicate, officials said. Moving them off center makes room
for a watermark and reduces wear on the portraits, they said.

The new currency is designed to make it harder to create bogus bills.
Over the years, counterfeiters have graduated from offset printing to
sophisticated color copiers, computer scanners, color ink jet printers
and publishing-grade software - technologies readily available in
today's computer-savvy society.

< ONE CULTURAL DIFFERENCE > by Kevin O'brian
Money is very different in United States.
For example, I know that here, parents will try to pay for the
children's college education but you take it further.
See, after we're 18 or after we graduate college at least,
Americans are very independant people.
Now, most Americans after they leave home, their money is theirs.
They keep it for themselves.
As Koreans tend to live at home until they get married, except
for one they're at army, one they're living at University.
But if they're not in school or not in the army, they usually
live at home but Americans don't.
Americans only go back home if they are in University or if
they're in financial problems, having financial problems in most
cases.
Now here is the most important part.
Koreans usually, young Koreans, they give a lot of money, maybe
all the money I don't exactly, you would know to the home.
They work and get some money to the parents.
That's one of the advantages of children's staying at home but
also the parents really have a lot of controll over the
children's money.
If it's the children's money, parents have a lots of control.
But Americans will pay their parents some if they're living at
home.
They might pay their parents a little bit of extra money.
But often times you live there for free.
Extra money is your money. Your money is yours.
And when you get married, in America your parents try to pay for
the wedding and maybe they will give you a gift.
If you're wealthy, they might give you a house or a car. But all
of them they're very wealthy.
But, in Korea, most parents want to try to pay for the children's
first apartment and furniture.
So, it's much harder for young Americans because basically
they're expected to pay for everything for themselves.

Raul : Why are you paking up today when tomorrow's your last
day?
Louanne: I'M JUST GETTING A HEAD START.
Raul : Oh, I see.
What you did, when you gave me that two hundred dollars..
That was the nicest thing anybody ever did for me.
Louanne: ARE YOU KIDDING?
Keeping an A is harder than getting an A.
Almost anyone can get an A once.
But keeping it, that's an accomplishment.
