물었는데 대답이 At ten o'clock이라고 했다. 질문을 한 그
신문 기자는 '언제 은퇴할 생각이십니까?'란 뜻으로 질문을
했는데 '10시에'란 동문서답을 한 것이다. 이것은 retire의
'잠자리에 든다'란 뜻 때문에 농담삼아 질문에 답한걸로
생각하면 될 것이다. '잠자리에 든다'는 go to bed, go to sleep
그리고 속어로 hit the sack, hit the hay 또한 turn in 이란
다양한 말이 있다.

◆ prefer, would rather
Prefer 와 would rather 서로 교환하여 사용될 수 있는 표현입니다. 우리가 일반적으로 선호하는 것에 대한 표현을 쓸 때 prefer를 사용합니다. 하지만 대체로 - ing가 뒤에 따라온다는데 유의해야 합니다.

그리고, 만일 특정한 선택에 대해 말할 땐, would rather은 to 부정사를 수반한 would prefer to를 쓸 수 있어요.
